It's amazing how all the pictures taken with film in that video just look good. Doesn't even matter if the subject matter is interesting, or the picture itself is in focus or anything. Pictures taken with film just has that natural look to it that instantly makes it pleasing to the eye, while this exact same effect has to be emulated on digital pictures, and sometimes tweaked for hours

According to Ken Rockwell, 35mm film when scanned at around 9000 dpi is an 80 megapixel equivalent, whilst 35mm digital is near 40 currently but most use the bayer filter system (and not the superior foveon) so there's some quality loss. These cameras can be used for more than just as an experiment, I shoot on a 50e slr and a 5D mk2 with the same 50mm lens and I always get better quality prints from the 50e film camera.
@scott-ish40410 жыл бұрын
I also had :-( two 50e's and regret to this day having sold them (can't get hold of decent E6 processors in Brazil). Among many great features it also has the eye-controlled focusing and it works wonders (if properly calibrated).

"The cameras of Dads' childhood are good." I couldn't agree more. I still have and shoot with a Nikon F3 made back in 1982. It may not be THAT vintage, but it still is designed with the manual shooter in mind. I've found that although shooting with manual focus lenses (as they all were way back then) while tricky, once you get used to it, is a lot of fun. You might miss a couple of shots, but the ones you get feel that much more satisfying.

I must disagree with Kai's math. Because if you develop your own film the price goes down dramatically. Here's my math.After -$100 dollar for the developing gears. -5 dollar for good quality film if you buy in 5 packs. -developing kit (c-41) 25 dollar. Even though officially it develops 8 films. I have developed around 25-30 and had no problem with it what so ever. (C-41 developer is reusable.) cost %25 dollar. - The Math. $50 developer + $100 gears + (52 weeks X $5 film ) = 410 dollar. and that is around 1872 pictures. If your shooting film, you become more selective of exposure. So I think 1872 is a good number for a year. In the end I usually will only have 20 good exposures anyway.

Steve, give it a shot again. You first calibrate horizontally, after that, then you calibrate vertically. So run the calibration twice. After that, anytime you change lighting conditions, you calibrate again. The whole thing is stored in memory, so a calibration wont need to be repeated again after it is done. It takes a bit, but I've got my Elan IIe Eye Focus to work with me wearing sunglasses without an issue. The only problem is that your eye has to be centered in the viewfinder, not loppy.

The Canon T90 (released in 1986) set the standard for modern SLR ergonomics even though it technically had a short "service life" before the EOS series was released. It was essentially a Manual focus EOS camera. Some may even consider it superior to the early AF Canon cameras. That multi-spot metering was and still is a great feature, and is replicated in very few DSLRs. (Canon's 1D/1Ds series are the only modern cameras that come to mind with this feature.)

It's based on camera. The film will judge the ISO performance, while the camera does the focusing. Many Canon's in the day had an IR light, that is found on flashes to help with low light performance. This was a good system in that you didn't blind or interrupt a scene just because your camera coundn't focus in low light.
