So some of the audio stuff has been changed in recent firmware updates and things like the lowpass filter have changed completely in the way that it operates. So the numbers I give in this video are likely no longer the optimal settings. I haven't powered my Mega Sg on since making this nor have I updated the firmware since v4.2 I think. So the default value with the lowpass filter turned on may well be the best setting, but I really don't know. But you do want at least SOME lowpass filter otherwise it will sound too bright and shrill. I've been using my real Genesis since the making of this video.

If you're still wondering about those borders, they're to make sure no useful area of the display was cut off by the variable overscan that was present on CRT televisions, and having them be a color that was similar to the game's background would make them less noticeable if a particular television's overscan didn't obscure the entire border area.

Aside from 32X compatibility, Analogue Mega Sg is still the best way to play Genesis/MegaDrive games on a modern TV. Good job, KevTris and Analogue. It would also be great if they can make a clone on Sega Portable Nomad (Genesis portable) with the same FPGA technology from Mega Sg with modern batteries, better LCD, SD slot, USB-C for charging, the same button controls as 8-bitDO ones, HDMI out, headphone jack and Bluetooth. Imagine playing real Genesis/Mega Drive, Master System, Game Gear and perhaps 32X cartridges on the go with the hardware quality of Mega Sg. One can only hope for the ultimate portable Genesis console.

Actually it would make more sense if the “SG” would stand for “SEGA”, for starters it is the official initials SEGA themselves use, from the SG-1000 to Sega Gaga “SGGG”, but also because SEGA stands for “Service Games”. @emmettturner94525 жыл бұрын
Just leaving external audio “that way” is why you heard noise on the silent screens. It has to have an ADC to digitize the cartridge or Sega CD audio. This means you invite analog noise into your digital audio needlessly if you leave it that way for other games.
@GameSack5 жыл бұрын
The Sega CD wasn't even hooked up when I recorded that noise. And that noise did not originate as analog I don't think. Sounds very digital-y.
@emmettturner94525 жыл бұрын
Game Sack Exactly. It should be disabled without the Sega CD or else you get an ADC digitizing random noise from a floating analog input. It sounded “digital” because it was, in a way: The ADC’s analog input was picking up noise from digital circuitry on the system. It’s off by default for precisely that reason. The Super Nt has the same concern with “cartridge audio” and also defaults to “off.” Only enable cartridge audio on Super Nt for MSU-1, Super Game Boy, etc or else you will be introducing digitized analog noise into an otherwise-perfect digital audio signal.
