I think Kiwior’s performance exposed some of the limitations of the CB at full back idea. It’s can work brilliantly against most teams in the league, giving more flexibility. But against the top dog, elite wingers, it can leave you very exposed.

Looked to me like neuer was anticipating a shot from Saka, put his leg out to block the shot. Saka doesnt quite have the touch he wanted, bit heavier and further backwards than he wanted. He then runs into neuer, jumps a bit, but i think that was an automatic repsonse to not get injured. So, because there was not a challenge from neuer and Saka lost the ball, its not a pen.

I can understand where you're coming from and I largely agree but the fact is that never still puts his leg out as you said. Saka then attempts to switch direction which puts his right leg towards the right because he's moving towards the left (basic physiscs) which means that even though he initiated contact, neuer still fouled him and in my opinion its a penalty.

@@HueyByrne-ij3ku Saka put the ball too far away and backwards. His momentum carries him into Neuer, but also away from the ball. It's a great refereeing decision. But feels unfair as it would normally be given as a pen.

I think that's a fair objective assessment of what happened, but if we're taking that to its logical conclusion, it should be a pen. It's not the end of the phase of play, Saka's touch did take the ball slightly off his stride but not enough to not keep it at a clear goalscoring opportunity. I would also say that any move neuer's leg makes towards the ball is a challenge, which his body position clearly shows from any reverse angle you wanna pick. I hate seeing all these Saka hate posts because mostly they're bots but also they just don't respect what actually happened. That touch to move it around neuer is his only touch in the phase of play, as he's sprinting onto a loose pass from Bayern's midfield, at the end of the game where legs and minds are a bit slower. Neuer's face said it all; he knew he fucked up.

I was worried about Stones and Dias getting exposed but aside from the unlucky OG, absolutely solid. Stones was able to keep up and make some big stops. Dias made the right decisions in dangerous moments. City sloppy on the ball occasionally and it cost them, could’ve left with a win. What a game!

it's not "never a pen", both players' legs were moving towards each other at the contact, and it's one where whichever way the ref called it it wouldn't have been overturned. it's also not a dive, there is genuine contact which pulls saka's leg from out under him i would lean towards being a pen, i think that leg is stretched forward because of his momentum shift in changing direction to the left, and if you watch it in normal speed it's hard to believe anyone can react fast enough to deliberately kick neuer as some people are suggesting

Attackers always dangle a leg when they know contact in the box is coming. It's just how it is! Neuer moved towards the ball, didn't get the ball, there was clear contact...it's a penalty every day of the week. I reckon the ref didn't give it because of the Gabriel handball at 60-odd mins.
