Same. KF1 nailed that grunge atmosphere justaposed with the delightfull wackyness of the British voice acting. KF2 despite its much higher production quality (seriously, the gunplay is even better), but atmosphere/vibe wise it was a dud because of all the immersion breaking cosmetica.

For some reason in KF1 I always felt very attached to my teammates and would go out of my way to try and save them but in KF2 I didn't care, they absolutelty butchered the tight knit survival horror feel of the original. I just pray they make KF3 like KF1 or the mod...

This franchise really deserves just much respect as L4D2 and COD Zombies... I am quite amazed how little attention the franchise is been getting,It's one hell a fun shooter. Shame the franchise isn't as it used to be nowadays after Tripwire gone full EA and you should never go full EA. But at least KF2 supports modding and Dedicated servers.

Because compared to the others it's just boring and repetitive. Cod has other mp and so modes. L4d has actual level designing and story telling with versus mode and the endless community created maps and mods. Kf2 is just a reanimated and reskinned kf1 with a skin and loot box system. After you play either kf that's it. There's nothing much to it except leveling your perks and God is that just a boring and endless process. Let alone that there are classes that mess with other classes. For example explo fucks sniper due to the constant camera shake and enemy animation spasms due to the explosions making them harder to hit These games are fun at first but once you get the point there's no reason to keep playing unless to level up perks and again that takes so long you'll likely give up.

​@@TheeCapN if you don't like horde shooters ofc you'll find KF boring. If you like horde shooters KF and especially KF2 were miles ahead of the competition. The combat was just so deep and gave so much weight to everything, all the Zed's react to getting shot, can be flinched, stumbled, knocked down, stunned giving loads of combos and a huge skill ceiling. Something that sadly got watered down through all the DLC weapons they added. The game was also ahead in its visuals, the gun animations are top knotch, the Zed's look great, they are dismembered in gory detail and you get to enjoy it all in glorious slow mo which is another mechanic you could learn to trigger nore often and extend to lay waste to everything. L4D and CoD zombies are fun but in comparison are painfully simple and frankly I don't care about the story in them.

As for the combat being deep in kf i guess if you like nascar going around the map in circles than sure i guess you'd find that deep. The differing perks being the only way to spice combat up is just a poor way to make replay value for a game. Especially when the perks don't have synergy and worse the game itself can't decide if it's better to have players work together or let them be lone wolves. The bosses are unsatisfying when defeating them the endless mode is God awfuly repetitive. And say you want to play the game in short bursts the loading of both kf games is abysmal. As for visuals they aregreat but they don't matter in making the game stand out especially for the time where other games have the same visual fidelity with more reason to play them. There's a reason kf is just a forgotten game. It's too niche even in the horde genre. It's not even fun to play with people online like other games because the socializations are missing like in other games. Kf2 is a puddle compared to any cod game in terms of depth. Even the first gen cod had more depth than kf

Sharpshooter has a 5% chance to trigger zed time on a headshot, you combine him with a Commando who can extend zed time on kill so you get zed time more often AND its lasts longer and then you combine those 2 with perks like gunslinger who have insanely high zed time DPS. Even simple stuff like pairing a trash killer with a large zed killer because on higher diffs the large zeds get a lot of HP that make some perks weaker against them. For example commando is great for trash but less great against larges, so you want to pair him with a sharpshooter or gunslinger who are strong vs heavies. "endless mode is God awfuly repetitive" the irony when thats all CoD is lmao. Like you call it forgotten but in reality its been so successful that even now just last week KF2 got another update because it still gets peaks around 5k players each day and its all time peak is at 69k (nice) which is more than any other CoD zombies has managed on steam.

As an boomer Killing Floor fag, who did start with the pre-release DEMO of the original UT2k4 mod back in 2005, I have to disagree. KF2 had a POTENTIAL to be all around superior game. During its early access phase. Then, they butchered it completely. The game's fucking bloated, server hosting is abysmal, maps are literal copypasted hackjobs, everything's super futuristic and looks like something out of Fortnite than a slaughter house, and now every class has EVERY single weapon (with a reskin), meaning variety and tactical choices are just no longer a thing. Gameplay is floaty and lacks impact.

I loved KF1, it was a vibe. Gritty, atmospheric, the ingame lore was fun to read, and it was great time with friends and even randoms. I think the perks being more specialized made them feel better too. KF2 is great in its own right but it definitely does some things worse than KF1, and I wish they stopped updating it when HRG weapons become a thing.

I mean the HRG weapons weren't that bad of an idea. It's just that they didn't really add much more than one map, one weekly mode, and four guns per update for a while, which kinda got repetitive in an odd way.

I love how your gripes with Medic are also true for KF2. It's still the tankier class in the game, though other classes have better damage output as Medic guns are mostly focused on debuffing zeds. It's my fav class since it lets you get away with being shit at the game and still be extremely useful to the team.

I like that KF is one of the zombie game that requires precision and strategy, I mean you can always run faster than ur enemies to find better position in L4D, CoD Zombie, and WWZ. In KF you mostly have to literally stand your ground and fight

Play any map after cod bo2 or play origins these maps can be beaten with cutscene. If you want to beat the game. Killing floor for me TF2 MvM mode but meh edition. However cod zombies more content with really long rewarding easter eggs, pack a punch and perk upgrades, and way more interesting characters than KF. KF only interesting thing got is different enemy’s. Which cod bo4 zombies had a lot of special infected. (Unique ideas like werewolf) or fire zombies of course based on map. Which I thing cod zombie strength comes from how different maps feels. The only only thing they have common classic zombies and perk in every map. But yeah I can see that new player having a hard time because game really punish you for not playing careful unlike Left 4 Dead and killing floor.

They can also push bots back into their spawn indefinitely with the right tools. I wouldn't touch TF2 MvM with a 10-foot pole if I were anyone else.

Community made operation man vs Machine ervers realy good workshop maps and more and If you did 6 expert/Advance you earn a cosmetic medal because it is Valve approved.

This game is so under-appreciated, I used to play this so much as a kid, more than CoD at the time. The grittiness and atmospheres as a whole got me into it, and the weapons. Used to blast music and just game for hours, there’s no other zombie game I can think of that’s like Killing Floor 1. With 2 yeah, you can most definitely see a BIG change, I remember the launch of KF2 and I was a bit disappointed - still a good game no doubt, just isn’t the same. Only because it isn’t as gritty to me, I don’t know the first one has a charm to it that I didn’t see in KF2.

OG medic main here: Yeah, the armor was so good I'd go into games and just 'sacrifice' myself into Fleshpounds, Skrakes, bosses etc. so the others can lay into them lol. The MP5 and Vector was also super fun to use. Also for KF2 I ended up maining that as well especially in public games with randoms. Can't wait for KF3 to come out!

I wasn't in the PC gaming space when Killing Floor 1 was actively being developed and played, but even playing it now I can feel the passion the developers (and modders) had for it. It was dripping in atmosphere and had a really unique take on the coop horde shooter. I have a lot more experience with KF2, but there are several issues I had with it. I love KF1 because the whole feeling to play is just wholesome. It does not get old to shoot at those Zeds because the sounds and the animations are just perfect. The levels were also nicely made and there are many varieties thanks to the modding scene. I still play it , this game is not dead in 2023, there are still some populated servers running.

Only one thing that Killing Floor suffered in most way is the lore. There has been not many Campaign levels for both first and second game. I wish we could get an long singleplayer KF game with storytelling

I know I'm gonna sound stupid, but I LOVE Killing Floor 1's graphics and aesthetics. The textures look rough, dirty, like the first Silent Hill games, just like they should. I know it's dumb, but I really don't like UE3/UE4 because they look very... Plastic like, I don't know how to explain how I feel about them but UE2 is special to me and one of the reasons I loved KF1 as much as I did(not the hitboxes, those are irredemable).

I still love this game to this day. I may have started playing it around 2011 on a mega potato pc but even then it was so fun to play. the gunplay felt really good and just having the variety made it better. And just something about the atmosphere of this game is really really cool. I havent played many other horde shooters with this feeling. I still remember how many changes they did a few years after I started thinking the game would never have had that many weapons added, unless it was through mods. Oh yeah speaking of which, the mods for this game on the workshop are sooooo good. YOu can get so many more weapons and even more maps or modes. My favorite mod was the aliens mod and map. I do need to revisit this game because I have been missing just pure coop games.

Worst change in KF2 was changing bullets to projectiles instead of heat seeking. Which means, during Zed Time (slow motion), you can actually miss your shots .

I've been waiting for your retrospective on Killing Floor. This is the game that made me subscribe to your channel. I still play Killing Floor partially to this day and took me 9 years to get 100% achievement completing it just last year. After that, I met a group that host a ScrN Balanced modded server. The ScrN Balanced makes the gameplay buff; adds new modes, weapons, and perks made by different modders. They still update the mod even to this day. Also, there's a server run by ExciledCoalition (www.youtube.com/@exiledcoalition592/search?query=KF2) that converted KF2 gameplay to KF1. I'm not sure if he still runs the server though it's pretty neat.

The original Killing Floor mod is the first ever Standalone Horde Shooter. Released in 2005 it predates every other standalone horde shooter by quite a while and established staples of the genre.

My favorite perk is Sharpshooter, the challenge of dealing headshots is what's keeping me playing this game (especially in hard servers), the downside tho is not the perk, it's the hitboxes, they get kinda funky and not !00% of your shot will be headshots

Odly enough ı prefered Killing floor 2 for a long time because ı did geniuenly thought of it as an improvement ... until around late 2018 when updates like HRG weapons, EDAR's, absurd nerfs (they made berserker so unfun to play which was literally the only reason ı bought KF 2 in 2017 because the melee felt so good and unique in a weird genre) now ı don't even play these 2 games anymore as 1 is too old lacking some features and 2 essentially being on life support. The musics are still absolute bangers thoe demon hunter is literally the only metal band ı can say by name.

I'd like you to see if you can do a video on KF2 and compare it to 1. In my opinion, KF2 has a lot of polish and stuff going for it, but KF1 aged better thanks to the path KF2's development took.

Ah yes, KF1 Medic armor that's basically practically invincibility. Very fun :3 Certainly no shame in just grinding the Perks out with modded maps/servers. It's honestly just very tedious

Oh I remember playing KF1 in my small room in Tokyo when I was still a student back in ~2012 until 3 or 4am. I had a Core2Duo with a Quadro FX 1500. The game ran really well. Running to the convenience store to buy soda in-between games. Good times.

I like trousers. Edit: god damn I remember when I first noted that a concept like "games as a service" was the future because of the first killing floor. How things changed. I also miss old-school, good-guy Tripwire. Pre-2013 ain't coming back.

Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 were kinda underrated (and then UT3 was overshadowed by CoD4 MW1 and arena shooters went extinct) and had great mods - Still playing Ballistic Weapons mod to this day. I remember hours spend with uPaint that replaces character skins and textures, which inspired me to pursue my career in that direction. Other notable mod was Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45, which had some cool features that were removed in RO2 and Vietnam, like hitting body parts causing various effect.

It would be quite interesting to hear about the second game. Not being an old-school fan of the original, I got acquainted with it, spent a nice time, finally decided to try the second one and realized that concessions in the atmosphere and a little sharpness in the main gameplay slightly depersonalized the second part, making it more bland.

Man was this game so much fun. I don't really like this kind of games, because they don't catch me for very long, but boy first Killing Floor was a addiction in it's time. And yeah, I would be interested in Killing Floor 2 video

Man, i remember being scared shitless when i was 10 years old watching my brother playing this game then trying out by myself ( did not end well ) Then covid happened So me and my brother decided to play the game to pass the time Learning the mechanics of the game And improving from not being able to beat normal-hard difficulty at level 6 To always being able to beat HoE in alot of the maps Good times

I was gifted a copy of KF1 a long time ago by some friends, but we haven't actually played it together yet. I was curious one day, so I popped it open solo just to fart around and like, I'm just gonna wait until we play as a group haha. I have KF2 via Epic's launcher too, but I feel even less optimistic about playing in a group via a non steam launcher haha
