Inkie is a way better looper and producer than me without a doubt, I think i won for these resons: 1. I studied the judges before GBB and figured out that they're overall more into vocals. All of them. And they're all musicians. 2. When you're in the venue during GBB, you care more about entertainment than sound quality. 3. So i decided to really entartain the judges by impressing them with cool vocal lines, 11th and 13th harmonies, polirythms, and odd time signatures (wich you can't say is not big step ahead for GBB at a musical level) 4. Judges have ZERO time to think about the decision. They don't "analyse that". They choose purely on emotions, that's why I won. Also as you probabily remember I was in the very frontline asking for a clear judging system and a set of clear rules. Really looking fowar to see what you're up to. With that said, my execution was really messy as always, and I don't have much experience with sound quality, so thank you for your analisys cause it'll really help me get better at it.

Even tho I am not the biggest fan of these 2 particular rounds because of the points I was mentioning, I still love your stuff my bro! If you find a way to improve your mix without loosing your authentic way of looping, you can have an amazing career as a musician! Maybe team up with a sound engineer like Saro did.

Just some things that I think that need to be considered when looking at this battle: 1) Second device - Those that complain or state that Inkie used his second device too much, bear in mind that all of the competitors had the opportunity to use it, it was part of the rules. Also bear in mind that NME also used a second device as did SOSO. The fact that Inkie is using the Helix that allows him to make the sounds he is making, is not his fault. All loopers could have used the device, it's just that Inkie has obviously learned how to use it to its maximum potential. 2) Raw beatbox - Some may find that Inkie's rounds no longer sound like beatbox and more like something that has been produced in a studio whereas NME's rounds sound closer to raw beatbox. However, if you want to base the win on just pure beatbox, then consider that in NME's rounds: the bass in both was in each case not very clean and sounded a little distorted; the timing of some of the percussion was slightly off in the first round (although with all the sounds together, the issue was masked) and was noticeably off in the second round; pitch control in the first round was sometimes uneasy but was better in second round. So with all this in mind, NME's 'raw beatbox' was not actually clean at all times so can't be really used as reasoning to say he had more natural beatbox if it wasn't clean in the first place. 3)Judging - when you look at the panel you have MB14; multiple time GBB loop participant, Tom Thum; OG beatboxer who has a great understanding of the loopstation and judged at WBC 2018, Sam Perry; to my knowledge hasn't partaken in beatbox battles but has been in the scene for a while, thePetebox; has finished in top 4 at UK Champs so knowa about the scene and is a great musician, Beardyman; I mean do I really need to give a desciption. Music genius and one of the beatbox pioneers for the looping/music production side of beatbox. So looking at all of these people, all but MB14 has used or is known to use second or even MULTIPLE devices (*cough* Beardyman *cough*), so are all aware of the devices and their capabilities. So they shouldn't be against Inkie's use of the device if he is using beatbox to make the sounds for his routine and simply altering them with the second device. Another major consideration is that the judges are given very little time to decide a winner for the Quarter and Semi Finals but are given substantial time to discuss/decide the outcome of the Final. It would make more sense if the judges are given at least 2-3 mins to look back on both rounds clearly and the make an informed choice because 3 mins of looping is a fair bit to take in when you think about how complex some rounds are and being able to notice mistakes in the routines. 4)Overall rounds - at the end of the day this is a battle. And you are ALLOWED a second device. And you are judged on your routines based on the sound/music you make. And the aim is to have a better routine than the other person. So looking at all of the rounds, Inkie was pretty much flawless in terms of the routines he performed whereas NME had some noticeable mistakes and there was a lack of a wow factor in his rounds. At the end of the day I think that Inkie was definitely robbed of this win and if you are going to say "it didn't sound natural or organic", then why allow devices that can make the human voice sound unnatural and inorganic.

To me, this was a battle of atmosphere and vibe vs. technique and high level music theory. Inkies music speaks for itself, but NME is using some crazy comp techniques. The first jam was in 5/4 and he was singing 7th chords. Prob the closest thing loop station has ever seen to jazz

I watched Brez's video on this and he said that the rules say no synthesisers or pre-recorded sounds on second devices. 12:24 It’s not a timing problem, it’s intentional. I didn’t notices any pitch problems and the bass sounded good to me. It’s important to note that his song is in 5/4 time signature, and also really fast, and yet he still has precision in the placement of his sounds. I think both Inkie and NME had completely flawless, and incredibly creative first rounds, so I think that the decision is really made on the second round Edit: I finally noticed what you were talking about with the late kick, I think you’re right that it’s unintentional but the fact that it’s difficult to notice means that he shouldn’t lose too many points for this. Sometimes and early kick can give it a bit more swing and I don’t think he intended for that but luckily for him it still worked pretty well Edit 2: He performed this pretty much the same as he did in his wildcard so I don’t think he “switched the beat immediately because he knew it was wrong”

Hey Madox, don't you think that NME could do that "off time" on the beginning of his first round on purpose ? Cuz when he layer the other sounds it creates a nice delay, in betwen the sounds.
@Madoxbeatbox3 жыл бұрын
Well its a 4/5 beat but the kick was still off.

@@Madoxbeatbox Yeah, but I'm not saying the timing signature but the "click" itself. He layered some and delay some a bit to create this groove.

INKIE lost because he was going against this GBB rule: Any Sounds That goes into the Extra Device must be from the human voice/body.

Must come from the human* For example NME also claps or snaps but that's allowed

Madoxx, You forgot one thing... In NME's first round, it's not off time, it's meant to be in a different time signature, not 4/4, but in 5/5 (from what I understand)
@vinodpara54982 жыл бұрын
The round is in 5/4 time, and he's off time in it by a little bit. I am a drummer.
