The drones were decoys to exhaust Israeli air defenses which they successfully did and paved the way for those ballistic missiles that followed them and struck those air bases. It took four countries to stop that attack yet they managed to hit their targets so yeah quite successful i'd say.

That is why, as Michael Clarke explained, they have to send hundreds of drones and missiles whereas Israel only needs to send a few.
