Yes she had literally just had the baby out n about at lunch with friends but seems to me the grandmother probably didn't watch her very often or only saw the baby when the parents were around ...so in saying that I can see why it's possible for rhe grandmother to forget and she probably fell asleep so she wasn't making noises on the way home ...I get too what the mother was thinking to give her another chance and try to forgive what happened the 1st time which I understand was ruled an accident but still it was neglectful ...I find it crazy too that this grandmother has another daughter but somehow all her children are alive and yet the other daughter has been a victim to 2 of her children dying in the care of her mom

I want to know if the grandmother has undiagnosed or even diagnosed dementia or Alzheimer’s. Does the grandmother have a drinking problem? What unimaginable tragedies. 2 children. So beyond sad. The fact it happened twice shows she definitely has serious memory issues. Did the parents even have her checked out for Alzheimer’s or dementia after the son died in her care? You and your guest on your channel should’ve looked at trial. The grandmother had been not asked to return to her teaching job because of several issues. An expert read some of a letter given to the grandmother in 2021, before the deaths, by employer/school. She was not able to complete tasks anymore. Simple tasks like making correct amount of copies at photo copier. There was something clearly happening. If parents didn’t trust, then why leave the second child??? All adults failed these babies.

Nix was evaluated and treated at an in-patient mental health facility for 30+ days after she made bail. Didn't trust her mum, but was using her for child minding 3 to 4 days (afternoons) a week. And on this particular occasion just rings mum up on the day of her hair appointment, kind if implied it was just for the hair appointment, but in fact it's for the whole afternoon. She didn't care that her mum already had plans of her own. We can't know the state if mind of her mum. She isn't young, she isn't going to have the same energy of a younger woman, and she doesn't seem to be getting any assistance from anyone. Her other daughter is living with the parents by the sound if it, but appears to be working? No evidence that she's helping with anything. Neither was there any obvious help from her husband the grandfather. It is possible that she is experiencing early dementia or Alzheimer's symptoms. It's actually not easy to diagnose in the early stages. Some symptoms are picked up retrospectively, rather than at the time. So I think this whole arrangement was actually pretty abusive. Especially with the background. This was terribly tragic. But I feel that Grandma was not solely responsible for what happened here.

I’m a grandmother to 3 grandchildren. They are 29, 18, 10. Their safety is at the top of my list at all times. I watched them all. No one else has ever watched them but me. My youngest my granddaughter I watched 12 hours a day while my daughter worked. My number one priority and always kept their safety in mind. It was her late nap time when her big sister got off the bus. But sleeping or not I took baby In Her car seat to the bus stop to get her big sister. I chose to take care of them because my daughter couldn’t trust daycare’s after an abuse of another child. I was happy to do so. Their safety was always on my mind. My daughter could do her job and not worry about them being abused or any danger. I was still working when my oldest was born. So I would drop in at different times to check on him. When he was 3 I took him to work with me. If anything I’m close to all 3 of them and wouldn’t want it any other way!

She did not kill anyone. She is old and has health problems which require her to take medication that affects her cognitive function and memory. Her daughter knew this as she had lost her job over it. The selfish daughter kept insisting her mother babysit knowing that she was not really capable and she didn’t put any safety measures in place to protect her children. I blame the parents of the babies for not caring enough about their safety and choosing to leave them with someone who is forgetful.

I read where the grandfather left the gate open and the grandmother didn’t know it was open. This is regarding the first child’s death. That’s why it was deemed accident. Have no idea if this is a fact but as sad as it is, mom is responsible for leaving the second child and her behavior is really bizarre. IMO

I had no idea they were relying on her for full -time care while working. She obviously couldn’t cope the first time, why put her in that position again? Grandparents should be allowed to say no to that type of arrangement. My mum would say she wouldn’t be able to cope with that arrangement as too much and I’d accept that and make other arrangements.

That daughter and her husband knew this grandma was forgetful!!!! They are responsible. That woman had taught for 40 years! You don’t know the level of tired at this age. Yes she definitely messed up but shame on that daughter. I’m not buying the parents blame of the grandmother. They should have responsibility for leaving their child with someone they didn’t trust. She last minute told her mother to keep the baby while she got her hair done. Then she went home and left the baby all afternoon! It was not a good look for them to come out after the trial and speak the words they spoke. It looked more like they enjoyed the attention than being completely heartbroken over the whole situation.

I’m so disappointed in the way you have sensationalised this case. It’s a very tragic situation that should never have gone to court. This loving grandma has not done anything wrong except get old and sick and her family didn’t respect that. When Ezra drowned in the pond Tracie was asleep but grandpa was looking out for him until he decided to go to Walmart and not take the toddler with him. He didn’t wake Tracie so any blame should be on him. Tracie lost her job over her memory and cognitive decline and her daughter knew this. The school deemed her not safe to be in charge of children yet Kayla still insisted on leaving her baby with her. Being a loving mother and grandmother Tracie wanted to help her family out whenever she could. Kayla should have put safety measures in place to make sure her baby was safe when she went to grandmas house but she didn’t. She didn’t even call or text to check on her child. This is a tragic accident and nothing more. Tracie doesn’t belong in prison. The blame lies with Kayla and her husband for not protecting the baby properly. People over 64 should not be babysitting children under 6. Not without some strict assessments done on their health and cognitive abilities. Early stages of dementia are often missed because older people usually get more forgetful, by the time the dementia is actually diagnosed it’s become more severe. Society has failed this baby not her grandma. Stop expecting older people to be free babysitters when they really are not capable.

I agreed with your comment until I saw how you think people over 64 should not be babysitting young children without "strict assessments" done. What a haughty thing for you to say. I'll be 64 this year, I work full time and have complete use of my mind. This woman is dealing some cognitive impairment obviously, and I bet nobody can punish her as much as she is punishing herself right now. However, Kayla sounds like she lacked good judgment, she should be the one having her cognitive abilities assessed since she is clearly the one who made a bad call by thinking her mom was competent to watch another small child. She (Kayla) should be having assessments on her health and cognitive abilities because she clearly didn't learn from the first child's death. Kayla testified that she always brought her children with her to work ..... in fact she said everywhere she went she had her kids with her. But how is that possible since it was discovered in testimony that the kids spent several days each week with the grandparents. So which one is it Kayla? Do you always have your kids with you, or do you have your parents watch them regularly. If you were so upset that the first case didn't lead to a charge, why did you let them have another chance?

Our memories are not perfect. Our brains don't focus on routine events. Our brain even creates false memories. "Forgotten baby" syndrome is a real phenomenon. Children are forgotten in cars all the time around the world. This is a tragic accident. Who benefits by locking this woman in prison? Dr. Grande did an analysis of this case. I encourage you to watch it. When my son was born, I had nightmares that I had left him in a remote cabin in the wilderness in sub-zero temperatures. I was trying to get there before the fire went out. Sure, it was a dream, but the fact was I knew that forgetting something important was a reality. I have purchased groceries and driven home without them. I have left my child with someone else and suddenly panicked because I momentarily forgot where the child was. As a grandmother of 68 years old, I know how this could happen. It is tragic but not criminal.

She was asked not to return to school before the death of child #1. Super concerning. Look at the end of the trial, after the jury was deliberating, the defense asked that their experts (who were not allowed to testify) went on the record with their opinions. Oddest thing. Had never seen that before. I believe judge will let her go with credit time served and sentencing. He revoked her bond and placed her in custody after the verdict.

@@debsea2759 Thank you! Interesting. When defense made their proffer (I've seen proffers in a few trials - it's testimony outside presence of the jury that wasn't admitted during trial) I thought that was odd if it were to explain she had PTSD, of which memory problems are a symptom. But since she had those memory issues prior to the first death, it's not really meaningful. I was thinking, this poor woman has PTSD from the first death (I mean, who wouldn't?), but apparently that doesn't explain the second death.

It happened in New Zealand a few years ago. The forgotten baby on the car. A couple swapped jobs, and the mother took the baby to kindy. She forgot to drop him off, and Kindy rang her to ask where he was . She was running to the car. But he'd died. Tragic. She was a Dr . There were a few cases, but i haven't heard any for a while. But a grandmother did it here too recently. I have to say i left my granddaughter in the car to sleep. But i left all the doors open. I could see the car from the kitchen. My grandson was running around and slammed the doors. I ran out and got her. She was hot and vomited. Even with the doors open, it was too hot. She was ok . Drs told me she would have died if she had been left longer. She was 2 years old. Dehydrated. The hospital kept her for the night. It's a real wake-up call. I hadn't forgotten her and thought she was ok because the doors and windows were open. And i could see the car. Thank God i saw my grandson shut the doors. New laws now. There's been a newish case here. Similar to mine. The baby died. And the mother was home too. Think grandmother is going to jail.

Something just isn’t adding up with the Tracy Nix case. I think the Grandmother has some sort of underlying issue. Not sure what. But I think all cars need to be equipped with a sensor that beeps just like it does when you put a heavy purse in the passenger seat, and the vehicle thinks it’s a passenger . And for the Mom to say she doesn’t trust the Grandmother after the death of the Grandson, but on the stand Grandfather stated they had the baby 4-5 times a week, so how could Mom leave the baby there if she didn’t trust Grandmother. And Mom seems to have another baby the next year after one baby dies. Something just doesn’t add up with the whole family situation. So sad.
