So, the other day i was listening to billie eilish’s newest release Happier Than Ever. And as I sat in my intellectual chair, I had what one might call an intellectual thought.
Hmmm, you know this reminds me of something, I pondered
intellectually.
The honest open vulnerability. lyrics that depict the sad reality of unhealthy relationships. The thoughts of uncertainty towards the future and feelings of longing for one's old life that inevitably accompany a quick rise to fame. The blond bangs and sad head tilt on the album cover with the title on the top left corner.
I'm sure you can already see where I'm going with this. But if for some reason you missed it, it's blue. I'm- im talking about blue.
While there are some parts that bare resemblance, most of the similarities in musical style are pretty far and inbetween but regardless, the seed had been planted in my mind and and it got me thinking:
Saying blue is a great album, would be an understatement. It has a certain quality that makes it everlasting.Years after hearing it for the first time, I still get chills listening to the sentimental crooning on a case of you, or the powerful yet subdued title ballad blue. Something about it just hits me in a specific way that no other album can replicate.
So you might be wondering, what keeps this album so popular after so many decades? What makes it so special that 50 years after its release many critics and acclaimed musicians still consider it to be one of the best albums of all time?
Well dear viewer, I’m glad you asked
Joni Mitchell, Beatles, Billie Eilish, get back, other fun key words

Some excerpts of the songs here are sped up, but, yeah, this is a fantastic album...has been my favorite for decades. Glad you've looked into her music. She's gotten so many through sad and/or contemplatives times.

I absolutely adore Joni Mitchell. Apart from the Beatles, she is my favourite musician of all-time. In 70s she released outstanding series of albums: Blue, For the Roses, Court and Spark, The Hissing of Summer Lawns and Hejira, and eaqually wonderful Mingus a few years later. IMO Lennon/McCartney and Joni Mitchell are the best songwriters of second half of 20th century. Sorry i just had to express my love and respect for this woman somewhere :D

Excellent overview and insights. And I was wondering about Eilish's latest look (blonde), but I hadn't noticed the other connections you point out. I was a huge fan of JM back in the day, but when she walked off the stage after playing one song ("Help Me") the one time I'd bought a ticket to see her, back in maybe 1975, I stopped following her so closely. I've gotten over feeling miffed, though, and have been going back through her music and loving it more than ever. Thanks for your discussion.
