I look up to her now knowing that she overcame her disability and thrived, wish I could do more, but I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer before the pandemic really got going in 2019, I am now 2 years in remission, lost part of my hip and about 7 inches of my small intestine from a bowel obstruction, I have several collapsed disks in my back and I have a seizure disorder from having brain surgery when I was 14, been rough but I am trying to stay strong, trying to start making videos on my Yt account soon I hope and I have an amazing kid. Gotta fight the good fight, and as I always say, stay strong and carry on! Stay safe out there everyone! Be kind to one another!

Saw her at the Omni in Atlanta in 1974 with my cousin Michael shortly after the Court and Spark album was released. It is in my top 5 favorite concerts of all time. Joni was perfectly spot on that night and I'll never forget that show. Court and Spark is one of my favorite albums also. It just doesn't get much better than that. Best wishes Joni.

Most lives are tragic. No mystery there. It's how we all handle life challenges that count. Working at being the best has its negatives for sure. The pressures, friends and family that don't understand what it takes to be great and stay great. Lawyers, agents and the music business in general takes its toll on mental and physical well being. THANK YOU, JONI ! You have given all of us an amazing catalog of art and music that have stood the test of time.

Being brave enough to give up a child is a lifelong grief. As long as the child has a good family (aren't any of us lucky to have that?) does not guarantee a bonded reunion. It is most often complicated. Giving a child up for adoption is a painful decision.

An extremely gifted artist who chose to live her life in a very independent fashion instead of following the crowd. She didn't appear to give into fear, and expressed herself quite freely and eloquently. Apparently, she struggled, as we all do, with so many of life's challenges, but her music and art often times pulled her through. Joni is a very strong lady who also knows she has weaknesses. She's self-aware and has used this well during her music career. A beautiful human being inside and out. A woman of character, for sure. Thank you for all you've given to this world, Joni. Sending love, light, strength, courage, wisdom, compassion, and energy your way BEAUTIFUL. Peace, B. Reaves

My fave songs are "Help Me, "Free Man in Paris," "Chelsea Morning" and "Both Sides Now." She sings her wisdom and there's a nugget of truth in every song. A lesson in every line. Many musical artists write lyrics that are catchy, but don't make sense. Joni "talks story." She sings in a style that makes you think she's just sitting next to you having a chat. She's a psalmist, a teacher; an oracle. I didn't know about all her struggles, but wow, she seems to be quite an overcomer!! I've heard she has synesthesia (many artists do). "The sun poured in like butterscotch, and stuck to all my senses" - who else could write that but Joni?

She has survived what would have killed or at least broken, many others. And she keeps on coming back. OK, back in early 70,s Joni was hang,n with the heavy hitters in LA. the ( canyon )they were just kids Neil Young, David Crosby, and a new kid Jackson Brown on and off, and remember WereWolf of London Warren Savon or something like that, he was there too, an old house people in and out at all times, but everything was always kool, and me I,m a guy always hang,n around whenever I got the chance. Everything was music, and laugh,n, I,m about hot rods and Bikes so I didn,t really fit in, but I alway had a new joke or a bag of good stuff, so they put up with me.I wish that I had something that I could have added, I remember when they were putt,n together If I could remember my name, that was another world, look at us now.

I once read an article that described her as one of the world's last great smokers. Gordon Lightfoot is another great Canadian music talent with a cigarette habit looking rough these days. Those cigs will get you eventually. If they don't kill you outright they will rob you of your general health and make your later years less than they could have been.

Probably one of the greatest artist of our time poet painter composer and musician second to knowone with the voice from the heavens. The fact that Joni was a rebel at heart through her struggles in life and would be no slave to mediocrity like so many artist she gave us all some of greatest songs dancing to the beat of her own drum and knowone elses expectations. The best art isn't predictable thanx Joni you gave us more than you can ever imagine.

Joni survived a stroke and was able to witness two singing geniuses cover her work beautifully at Lincoln Center, the ultimate honor and praise. I don't see the "TRAGEDY" that's just click bait. Coyote bedded and moved on to Joni's delight, where's the tragedy? She enjoyed every cigarette, I suppose she'd rather be driving across the continent than being old, but how do you avoid that? by dying Young? "Where's That at?"

I wouldn't say her life has been tragic but she has had a long life, ups & downs, health issues. Giving up her child back in the day & finally meeting again later in life went the way many of these reunions do. (Been there done that, was incredibly lucky they wanted me in their lives & held no grudges with our birth parents) Point being, you are meeting adult strangers & need to be prepared for that to go the way of any "blind date" type first meeting. I'm glad se & her daughter worked things out & she is still with us.

Lee Alred. In most cases I would imagine that the child is better off, but definitely not all cases. My wife definitely felt overall blessed, we know of two families right off the bat that were abusive in every form of the word. Unfortunately, some kids don't stand a chance from the start. Remember years ago potential adoptive and/or foster parents were not vetted as they are now. Not that is tragic. Stay safe.

Loved her from the "get go" back in the very early 1970's! Never saw her in concert, but bought most of her albums! Still have them! "Clouds" was my favourite, but "Court & Spark" is a close second! I was concerned about her health when she disappeared from the scene so abruptly in 2015? It was difficult trying to get news of her well-being during that period! My own wife died of a brain aneurysm, and I know that they are frequently fatal! Joni is lucky to be alive, believe me!

Great video. However, there’s a bit too much focus on her love life and her male partners in my opinion. I haven’t seen many of these sort of videos about her male counterparts (For ex. Bob Dylan) where they place this much effort on their love escapades, and I’m sure they’re just as many. Mitchell is a legend with or without her romantic relationships, which I am sure all of you know. Other than that, I really enjoyed watching the video and even I as a fan learned some things I didn’t know about her before. Thank you!

Sang and played "Both Sides Now" in Church on my Ovation 1612 back in 1982, such a beautiful song. My Dad passed away 20 years ago but in his latter years he became a huge Joni fan and I now have all of the CD's be had bought of her early music. She is incredibly talented, excellent showcase of her life Grunge, much I did not know. Certianly a turbulent and in many ways tragic life, pity about her cigarette addiction, which never allows anyone to age well.

I was at the Isle of Wight on the stage not 20' from her when she premiered some of the Blue album. Prior that summer she had been staying at the caves in Matala on the island of Crete where she pened Cary and maybe some others from Blue. Things started to get out of control during her set. A crowd of over half a million can be a very vicious animal to control. Unlike Leonard Cohen and the Angel choir who came on some time around 2 AM, Joan's set was during the day. Some guy took the microphone from her piano and was quickly escorted off stage. The crowd didn't like that as he was calling for the Walls to be torn down and the concert be declared free. Right then a poor girl with no clothes on jump on stage and was able to divert some of the Focus of Joan. I know this because I was the one sitting in front of the speakers and behind the girl laying in front of me with a disgusted look on my face staring into the no taste cameras. This gave Joan time to compose herself and tell the audience that they were behaving like tourist and show respect for the performers. It's all there, the DVD is called Message of Love. I'd be driven out out of the US by the draft and had been on the road for 18 months. I made it from San Francisco to Luxembourg to Kathmandu and back home. Wouldn't trade it for the world. She used to lullaby me to sleep "Song to a Seagull" 1968.
