Watercolour Practice for Loose and Expressive Paintings | Semi-Abstract Landscape | A Quick Sketch

In this video, I demonstrate one of my favourite ways to loosen up in my watercolour painting practice, and to create expressive and full-of-energy paintings. It is also a great way to warm up before painting a larger landscape.

Thank you so much Jen! I do paint on blocks of paper, I use Baohong Master’s Choice. I love that the paper comes pre-stretched and ready to go, and that it doesn’t buckle. It makes it easier to start new work when I don’t need to get the paper ready…

When you decide to increase the size of a watercolor, for instance if you should desire to double the size of the painting for whatever reason, would this change your approach and technique or is there no difference. I love that painting.

Thank you so much 😊 Glad you enjoyed this video! I use the same techniques for my larger pieces, but I use larger brushes to make sure my brush marks are still loose and expressive - this helps keep the painting “fresh” and stops me from overworking the scene…

I absolutely love your style and technique, and enjoy your KZbin videos so much. Something I'd like to bring to your attention is the lack of contrast between the text of your written comments against the background on which they appear. I'm advanced in age and am having difficulty reading them from a short distance across the room . . . and I have a large screened TV. Please consider adjusting the font color so that it is a darker value.

C’est très beau . Au départ les couleurs partent dans tous les sens, c’est vraiment abstrait et on se demande ce que l’on va en faire. Et puis tu crées un arbre avec des couleurs vibrantes et tout se met en place pour réaliser un beau paysage. Quel talent!! Je vais le faire . Pour moi c’est difficile d’ajouter les couleurs finales sans déplacer celles du dessous et sans que ça fasse de la boue! Ça ne fait qu’un an que je peins mais je persiste… Merci Anastasia.
