I only had listen to Judgement (it's an album that i heard before in my childhood because of my dad but find who they're and listen to them properly at my current age) and Alternative 4. I don't know if i'm in position to say this but i really think that this " old fans " are just getting purposely stuck with the Old Anathema, because trying to say this album is garbage is kinda childish and stupid. I listen to this album for the first time at 7:20 A.M meanwhile i was on my way to go somewhere that was like 40 minutes away. Those 40 minutes were awesome , shame that couldn't finish the album but now i'm going to hear it until the end. This album is precious.

@@PetreMx Bands change sometimes. It sucks, I know. But if you want albums that sound like that, check out My Dying Bride or the new Paradise Lost album: Obsidian. I enjoy modern Anathema because so much of the music I listen to is already miserable/gloomy etc. It's nice to have something uplifting once in a while. Though, it seems they've been having a hard time mixing up their sound and keeping things fresh. We're Here... through The Optimist sound a bit too similar to each other. I think for their next album, they should focus on songs that are more energetic rather than the ambient approach they took on this album. I imagine taking inspiration from "A Natural Disaster" and "Judgement" will be both reasonable to expect from the band and could satisfy fans that want a heavier approach.

"Wow, Anathema is evolving in a style I don't like, so it's dead". Nope. Same for Opeth. Actually, what may be called a "dead band" is exactly the opposite imo : a band that don't take risks, that has never evolved in their whole existence, like Slayer.

What an argumentation... Just admit that YOU don't like their new sound, but 95% of the people here do love that new direction. Objectively, there is some research in the sounds, structures and concept ; there is new elements, etc. And there is a bunch of people who are also hating on Opeth with the same kind of "arguments" ("this is shit yo"), so if YOU don't like it, well, just move on. There is plenty of music out there that will suit you.
