For the amount of time that it takes for super busy novice knitters to make a pair of socks, having this info beforehand to help make the decision on which style to do, is PRICELESS!!! Thank you! I couldn't find this info anywhere else after watching as many videos as I could. There are a plethora of podcasters that show off their finished objects and wips and all state which pattern, toe, and heel they used but NONE stated WHY they chose them. I never realized that there were such distinct differences in the differing styles. If I'm gonna spend all this time and expense of knitting socks they damn well better fit!!!! Nothing would be more sad than to have these socks spend their lives at the back of a dark drawer never to see the light of day again! I'm about to knit my first toe up socks and you've made my decision so much easier on which to style to do. You're the best! Thanks again.

Now I need to ro the same thing for sock toes because we have a lot of choices there, too. Happy knitting!

Gusset and Heel flap vs the Short Row Heel: Which of these two heels will wear better? Thank you for the excellent video!
@thechillydog2 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the shape/proportions of your foot. If you tend to have a higher instep, I'm guessing a short row heel would wear out first because the fabric would be stretched more. And I know a lot of knitters feel they need that reinforced heel flap, but I have never had any knit sock get a hole at the back of my heel, only on the bottom of my foot, usually on the ball of my foot, rarely at the heel. That's where my commercially made socks tend to wear out first as well.

These are great to show differences in technique, thank you. I have a question, however. Are the repeats of your garter ribbing intentionally different numbers or is it simply because of the difference in rows for each technique? I see that one is 9 repeats, one is 8 and one is 7. Thank you!

Good question! The number of repeats of the garter ridges is related to the number of rows/rnds needed for each heel construction so the sole length of each sock was the same.

@@thechillydog thank you! I assumed it must have been the case, but wanted to clarify. These are just so cute, what a great idea to showcase different techniques this way. Thank you!
