I use Gold Tip 100 grain brass inserts in Gold Tip arrows. The transition between the insert and arrow is absolutely flush. Left bevel broadheads actually tighten as they enter an animal or target. The Innovative Outdoorsman (Stay Sharp) has a video about it.

Ran a test yesterday, ventum 33 turns left so I fleched 6 arrows 3 degrees left. It would make a full turn at 9', the same arrow with 3 degree right did not turn at all until 10', then it was only a quarter turn, a full turn didn't happen until 20'. They both shoot field points the same but broad head the left is better. I watch someone do this but never tried it, thought it was bull c, I was wrong. Matthew's 31.5 shoots right helical. I'm going to put ABB on the Hoyt after I get to Colo in a few weeks, so both will be R helical. Nice video

I actually had a shpeal about BluGu in the footage that didn't make the final cut. We use it in the shop but my complaint is the discoloration of lighter colored vane vases like white, yellow, and pink. Other than that it's also great stuff.

Glad to see another AJA video pop up. Dad life and teacher life happens. I have been giving a Serious thought about trying to build a half dozen Sirius arrows like the ones that you have there and a half dozen Victory's not sure which in the lineup yet. Might go 3 or 4 fletch with a slight helical on some longer low profile vanes. You don't seem to have a problem with the Blazers and steering a Magnus or other fixed blade though

Good show! I have used 91% alcohol for years for cleaning. I wipe the vane base no matter which vane company and the shaft. Using the Gorilla brand instant adhesive I very seldom loose a vane. Even when they get hit and pierced by another arrow. I don't use the gel type adhesive. I also get these little squeeze bottles with a very small tip. Their is so small it will actually lay in the groove on the vane base. You can really control glue flow with these.

I've heard so many people say it doesnt matter if you go R or L helical/offset in relation to which way your string [serving] rotates an arrow (like you said, 90% of strings are CW twist, which rotate arrows CCW). To me, this makes zero sense and seems really ignorantly dismissive. I filmed my own trad arrows in flight. CW string made R offset knuckleball for 10yds and get one rotation in by 14. Straight fletch rotated CCW slowly, starting at about 6ft out from the riser. L helicals had an entire rotation COMPLETE by 6ft out. There is so much energy & speed wasted in an opposite fletch or vane essentially snowplowing the air, fighting to spin the arrow opposite from what the serving imparts. There's no way it doesnt matter. Accuracy might be similar, but less precise, but the real loss is speed and energy, something every archer fights so hard to maximize, whatever doctrine of arrow build they believe in. Thanks for touching on this, but i do think it needs more spotlight cuz almost everyone has a contradicting, energy wasting setup.

Out of the 4 bows I am actively shooting only one of them clocks the arrows left. Mathews, PSE, 2 Elite. One of the Elites clocks left. Bows are 60 and 70 lb draw. I've heard what you said about that from others, doesn't seem to pan out for me. The points seem to unscrew a little shooting the left helical ones. Maybe some light threadlocker to keep them in place. Maybe those broadheads are unthreading a bit in flight and not imparting much influence to the arrow when fletched left. ie a tight broadhead is forced to spin with the arrow that spins to the right. Wonder what would happen if the broadhead could spin freely independent of the insert/arrow? An insert with a bearing or broadheads with same.

Been using super glue since high school, I'm an old fart now.....only ever let me down once during broadhead tuning the head pulled out of a hard foam target. This was because I got careless and didn't properly prep, I pulled the stacks of foam apart and retrieved my head. Properly prepped and re glued, no problem after that.

@averagejackarchery

I've shot a lot of vanes but keep coming back to Blazers because a) they're cheaper b) come in a bunch of colors and c) most importantly they stick to just about anything with little to no prep. Some complain they're loud. Your bow is louder. Some complain they're overused. Whatever. They're cheap, durable, and a pleasure to work with.

You have nothing to lose shooting a 300 spine in this situation, but can open a can of worms going to 340 if it's underspined. Overspined can be handled. Underspined can't be undone.

There’s a couple calculators that you can use that will tell you appropriate spine. What length do you have your arrows cut to? That is important as well. The shorter they are the “stiffer” they are going to be.

Im torn.. so like you I enjoy the tinker process as I search for the most proficient and potent arrow set up from the build to the table. (Its a hobby)..I too have fletched both right and left out of 2 diff bows which as you correctly stated 90% or more strings spin arrows left. Like you, I did not find any noteable difference in accuracy with either. I did not go into great detail with broadheads because both field points and broadheads really lossened with left fletch so I tried Ethics spinning inserts.. results were negotiable at best.. So really the majority of us are “stuck” with having to fletch our arrows right due to 95% of broadheads are right bevel yet 95% or bow string manufactures build strings to clock left. Hmmm seems like someone in this process didnt get a memo. Regardless.. in your opinion and while not perfect from a physics standpoint are we dropping that much arrow efficiency shooting our right beveled broadheads from a left clocking string or is this just something I need to let go of? The pursuit of perfection for quick humane kills never ends but.. I am not a competition 3d’er.. I shoot in the back yard to 60ish and swing from a saddle 20 feet up in the cold Wisconsin climate shooting maybe 35yds max with my bareshafted..nock tuned.. inset tuned.. 200 gr fixed blade single bevels honed to shave a peach into a necturine with 450-500 taw, 3 blade TAC vanes hand fletched arrows.. goal is freezer filled and many jars canned.. I should be ok correct? Please tell me I am good.. my marraige depends on this!

I'm not fond of a bow style that require a full axle pull to just change a string and cable. Thats just ridiculous. Plus the modules to change draw length instead of a rotating cam, still using shims (albeit top hats are better than standard shims) to tune, weight distribution is not what it should be for a 1k$ bow. Still they shoot well and have a huge following. So none of that is bound to change anytime soon.

@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 2 жыл бұрын
The push for longer vanes has come hand in hand with the push for heavier arrows: longer, more surface area fletching makes the non-bell-curve style arrow more forgiving. We're right back to the old aluminum arrow days with their 4" Plasti-Vanes. Blazers can handle any arrow you pretty much throw at them, but they behave better with a working-man's arrow build best of all.

Sorry Average Jack. I'm getting sick of youtubes push for content, content, content. The longer the better. I miss the days when it was easy to find condensed to the point information. Almost like a summary. 15 years ago I was "the man" here around town for bow tuning & component recommendations but things have changed a lot and I haven't done much with archery in many years. I would like to get caught up to speed but I don't want to spend hours & hours doing so. That just seems excessive. So I'm going to have to skip this nearly half hour video on new arrows, glue & fletching direction as I have already spent hours watching video's & got very little out of it for the time spent. I wish you had a condensed nuts & bolts summary style tuning & arrow building basics video(s). Way too much chit chat & hee hawing around in todays videos.
