Hi there, whilst I don't really work on Anbennar anymore back in the day I was the one who layed the ground work for Krakdhumvror, I mostly did the ideas, national character and base lore stuff before developers far more talented than me took them and made the awesome little nation we have now (: Just wanted to say they thanks for giving them a highlight as they have a soft spot in my heart and I never thought the little Ice Dawrf nation I wrote a lore doc on for a laugh would get so popular. I have a soft spot for Krakdhumvror since they were my first campaign in Anbennar almost a year ago, i choose them because i heard that the Dwarves were amazing and unique and i picked them thinking that a more isolated start was a good pick for a new player. I think a strong point in their favour is their theme (ice dwarves sounds pretty cool) and the fact that they are the only Dwarf hold that does not focus on "rebuilding our past glory", while other want look at the past and try to recreate a new and improved version of who they were Krakdhumvror is creating their new identity from scratch. The fact that your final mission is crafting a new crown really shows how they see the old empire as completely dead and they are the new Dwarf empire.

I like Krakdhûmvror because it could be argued that they're actually on the less evil end of the Dwarf Hold spectrum. Every Dwarf nation is going to end up at odds with every other Dwarf nation, and they're going to do a lot of conquering, but pun not intended they're pretty chill once you're in their lands. Throughout the mission tree, a pattern is repeated: They try something out, they fail, they learn, they try it again, and they learn from their mistakes the second time around. Where the dead end mines were an organisational mess at least initially, the Lonely Mountain mines were an absolute success. The first expedition didn't go so well, so they learned how to handle the wildlife and packed better and the second and third expeditions went smooth as you please. The experiments in gor Bûrad failed initially, so they found a new way of looking at the problem, and they succeeded the second time around. For all their apparent coldness, underneath the outer layer is a nation that's able to learn from its mistakes and try again, and succeed. If you take the democratic route, they're arguably the most egalitarian Dwarf nation too, united by the chain bond and a sense of solidarity rather than a kronoum fist from Amldihr. That is all to say, compared to other Dwarf Holds. Amldihr just revives the Dwarovar exactly as it once was, without improving or innovating much on it. Oval Lodhum can't help but be more than a little but sinister in their imo at times cultists obsession with love. Khughdihr runs the country like a business. Mithradhûm won't stop committing genocide. Haraz Orldhûm won't stop enslaving people. Seghdihr won't answer my questions whenever I ask them what their mercenaries are doing. Dûr-Vazhatûn has good intentions but ultimately discovers things that mortals were not meant to know and I won't spoil any more of that. But Krakdhûmvror? They're cold enemies, but inside the Blizzard is a warm cabin with a fire in the hearth. In my opinion. I dunno, maybe I'm looking at them wrong, but I just think they're neat.

Imho, krakdhumvror is among dwarfiest of dwarves, while other holds around them are chasing some form of gimmick to set themselves apart (like orlghelovar's artificery, lodhum's outside diplomacy or orlazam's cavalry focus), krakdhumvror goes all in with tried and true dwarven specialties: highly developed holds, high defensiveness and an isolationist focus inside their mountain, on that note, contrary to how you went about it, krak can actually complete it's mission tree without ever conquering a single province outside the serpentspine (note that the northern pass actually counts as part of the serpentspine continent), and are in fact geared to do just that, gaining large defensive bonuses to all provinces that connect to the outside (or just destroying the provinces like they do in the deepwoods).

The only complaint I had is that I ended up destroying the glades after conquering all of the deepwoods. I wish I could choose to spare the glades in order to finish the tree without sabotaging my pathing.

Unique disaster with lot of flavor, great ideas (maybe just inferior to Shaztundir and Arg-Ordstun, depending on the playstyle), excellent color, good pacing of the (extensive) conquest. I quite like them, along with Shaztundir (another very wide dwarf conqueror).

I love Krak's flavor the most out of all the dwarf holds I played so far. From the clan based elections, to the grudge against the old dwarven empire, to the expeditions into the unknown north and the industrialisation efforts of the northern pass. They were also my first dwarf tag I played, and man, was that chaotic and memorable!

I have a soft spot for Dwarves, but Krakazol kinda annoys me. They've got a mechanic where the ruler(Keglord) gets evicted if they become too good at their job. Also, the distillery is kinda goofy. You can put iron, cotton, etc into the still and still get something drinkable. Just too weird.

@@pukebeard6406 There's a new Dwarven Religion [Dwarven Pantheon]; the ancient faith of Al-Dwarov. You get the chance to return to that faith and, well, if you do... disaster time! You have to convert your country while getting swarmed by Religious and [more dangerously] Noble rebels. With frequent events which spawn more. I think it usually happens 1500 ~1530 ish, Not tried it enough to pinpoint the trigger. Rubyhold [Having never fell and having been founded during the days of Al-Dwarov] and a couple of remnant holds start with this religion now too; but converts need to "discover" the Dwarven Gods which happens via events. Religion works like Protestantism with some pretty nice bonuses like +monarach power.

I played these guys, shortly after they were released, except I went republic, as I felt going monarchy would have been a betrayal of the 'skill over blood' ethos at the heart of the nation. I found them ... fine? Certainly enjoyable enough, but not 'unique' enough to really stand out amongst all the other enjoyable nations on offer. IIRC, I literally never used the ice-smith spells (except when required by missions, if they ever were?), even the 'freebies', and agree they have a lot of wasted potential, given how 'core' it is to their theme. Still, a nice trip down memory lane, thank you.

I think so. Some tags use dlc features occasionally, but I believe that unit models are independent from DLC content.

Alternatively I can see them being formed from the guys who were more entrepenouring. Ya know the type, who in every prison work seem to be able to materialize goodies like drugs, tattoos, to spare weapons out of their sphincter.

Shamefully choosing to create a monarchy like the decadent empire of old that exiled the honorable ancestors instead of staying true to the meritocratic ideals of the Hold and creating a Free Republic, smh. Krakdhumvror was the second ever nation I played in Anbennar and I have fond memories of them. The idea of this republic of outcasts in the middle of nowhere overshadowing the empire that neglected them and building something new in it's place through sheer grit and perseverance was appealing to me. They are the dwarfiest of all dwarves!

Accepting noble demands also reduces development in your capital now so the cheese is less good. Tho you can dev back up pretty easily

​@@pukebeard6406 For me it's personal, cause I compare Vrorenmarch/Grombar with Russia, so Giant's Anvil is Ural Mountains, and that's where I was born :) But from the mechanical standpoint, I like their mage estate, because they have a spell that saves government capacity (i am generally not a frequent user of magic in Anbennar anyways, so cooldown doesn't bother me). Also they are one of the few holds, that actually aim to reconquer Dwarovar and nothing more (and the best among them, for sure). They also have super engaging story arc with their crown, and reforging Aul-Dwarov anew, not the way it was in past. That's it, basically
