Anberlin without Stephen Christian is like Blink182 without Tom Delonge. Matty is a great lead vocalist though, he brings back the youthful vibe I miss from the older Anberlin albums. Def gonna enjoy the new era 😎 #VEGA

On the one hand, yes, Stephen Christian has an incredibly unique voice and no one is gonna replicate it. Short of getting Clayton Stroop (from Thriving Ivory and City Wolf) or Charlie Finn (from Secret & Whisper) it's not even possible to get close. That said, I can't blame the band for wanting to continue to make music, and even though the vocals are vastly different, the instrumentation is absolutely still very much Anberlin. I too hope Stephen comes back to us one day, but Anberlin has always had my back. I'm happy to have theirs and support them, even if it feels different.

This still sounds like Anberlin from an instrumental level, its just the vocals that are completely different. I'm a big fan of Memphis May Fire so I don't mind Matty filling the void that Stephen left.

Been a fan of Anberlin for a time now, probably since Never take friendship personal. I have to admit. When I heard Matty was going to stand in for Stephen, I was sceptical. I love MMF, especially their newer stuff, but he doesn't sound anything like Stephen. Then I heard this song and it didn't really click at first. Now probably 50 listenings later and I cant get it out of my head, its really good! And then I heard a live clip from the other song Seven, and it sounds huge and somewhat refreshing. Really excited for that one to be released! Yes, sometimes It doesn't sound like Anberlin did before. But in my opinion, it doesn't have to. Bands evolve and go through different phases all the time. As long as their music is good, I'm totally fine with that.
