Grabbed my Miyoo mini from Ali Express. Arrived in around a week. I installed Onion OS and honestly, it’s the best retro gaming experience I’ve had yet. Onion OS game switcher is great.

Just got my RG35XX today. Noticed remapping the controls for the Capcom fighters was nearly impossible on the stock OS, modded it earlier today. Garlic OS pretty much fixed every issue I had. Anbernic just needs to work with Black Seraph for their software lol. The RG35XX still feels really small, but I grew up playing the huge ass original Gameboy....😂 I feel like I would squash the Miyoo Mini in my hands playing fighting games lmao.

Love the review! Could you please give a rough observation of the battery life of each device? I've heard the RG35XX only lasts a couple of hours from Reddit users - is this true and how does the Mini + compare? Thanks!

The Miyoo Mini Plus lasts about the same as it’s specifications (5-8 hours). The RG35XX is a bit harder to measure but I found the latest firmware to give me about 4-5 hours on. There are now different versions of the RG35XX out there now which confuses the situation even more. The old RG35XX has a 2100mah battery and the new one has 2600mah. Miyoo Mini Plus is 3200mah.

Yeah, I heard the Miyoo’s screen is easily broken if dropped. It’s the difference in quality of the plastic that gives the RG35XX a slightly cheaper feeling.

It's nice to see a video that isn't just pure Miyoo cult. I have had a + on order since late Feb from GoGameGeek that just finally shipped so looking forward to comparing them myself but I'm worried that the shorter length is going to be uncomfortable with largish hands. As the only handheld I own that isn't an actual Game Boy, the RG has gotten more play over the last couple of months than my PC, which says a lot for me.

I think this won't age very well. As soon as OnionOS is actually out for the Miyoo Mini Plus, it's solved. It's quite a bit ahead of GarlicOS (on the Miyoo mini) feature-wise. Also: GarlicOS is one guy, OnionOS are several. The form factor thing, I guess, is highly debatable, and we all have different hand sizes/finger lengths, so obviously one will be more comfortable for some, the other for others.

On the miyoo mini, with how many reports of the screen breaking and popping off, they should just make it so it attaches with strong magnets around the edges. That way it’s easily replaceable and it would probably never come off unless you pried it off.

I got my rg and the screen was coming off and it rattles alot which is not that big of a deal the mini is more pocketable imo. The rg35xx is more comfortable for longer sessions and the d-pad does t have to have tape added to fix it . The miyoo plus is better made but the rg35xx is more affordable and a little more ergos . My choice is miyoo plus. Great review.

Does any of these capable for bluetooth audio dongle on the 3.5mm jack?

Neither device has bluetooth functionality so you will have to use a 3.5mm dongle like you suggested. It should work fine.

Thanks for your support! I like horizontal handhelds a lot and something like the RG353M has better comfort and build quality than these two. However, there is a significant price jump between these budget vertical handhelds and the cheapest horizontal ones. The fact is, no one has released any new good and cheap horizontals around 75 USD. The RG405M you mentioned will of course blow these away but it is more than double the price. I would consider the Retroid Pocket 2+ or 3, RG353P or RG353M to be the next horizontals to consider above the Miyoo Mini Plus and RG35XX. Good luck in your decision.

Man I'm struggling to decide. Something about the Mini+ aesthetic that looks really good. But with how hard securing one is, RG35XX is looking really good. Would you recommend the Mini+ despite the struggle in getting one lol I guess the major points would go to screen quality, ergonomics and performance. And is OnionOS that superior to GarlicOS? Battery won't matter I guess since I can just use a power bank for it, and I don't think I'll need more than 3hrs of straight use. EDIT: just to add, I'm looking to emulate mostly PS1, GBA and SNES

I think both are great handhelds for PS1, GBA and SNES but my personal pick would be the RG35XX. GarlicOS has gotten very good and even though OnionOS is a slicker experience I think the RG35XX is slightly better with ergonomics also in mind.

Go Miyoo Mini +. Way better battery life like 8 hours. Better build quality. Better Stock and CFW experience (Onion OS 4.2 Beta is out). Wifi is important too. For Netplay aka multiplayer Over the Air updates(less tinkering with sd card), retro achievements if you care about that, and scraping. Also way better color options. On the other hand go rg35xx for slightly better performance with faster processor and double ram. If you want a bigger handheld like this guy mentioned about the chin. 2 sd card slot for more storage which means more games. HDMI out too if you want to play on a bigger screen, save a few dollars because its slightly more affordable and alot easier to get. To me people are buying the miyoo mini plus for a reason and its the better choice. But to each their own

@@JaviPlayRetro oh I think I would've gotten a Miyoo Mini+ if it was as readily available as the RG35XX. I didn't want to go through all the hassle of getting one or even paying more. It's way harder to get it in my country and for the price that I'll be paying for it, I could get better retro handhelds. The troubles I have to go through just outweighs how much I really want it. Hopefully Miyoo can improve their production on future handhelds.

why is there a new best cheap thing all the time. i just got the powkiddy about half year ago. despite installing a custom/best firmware or OS (forgot what exactly it is) I thought it was so so. i wondering if the XX is much better.

The RG35XX probably has a better operating system and is a bit easier to use (especially when you put GarlicOS on it). However, in terms of power it is definitely a budget option so I wouldn’t expect it to be way more powerful than some of the Powkiddy consoles out now.

@@forthenext i should have probably said which powkiddy i got. idk the exact name but its the one that looks like a gba sp. i do have an rg35xx by now and its actually A LOT better than that powkiddy. it is what i was hoping the powkiddy would be. i can even play ANY ps1 game at full speed with no hickups when applying the right settings and overclocking it. i am 100% happy with the rg35xx and i got it for cheap. i think like 35 GBP before shipping and tax!!!

You can switch between 3 games at once, uses retroarch cores for all the emulators, letting you change per-game settings. Scaling and shader options, and access to even more emulators. This thing is the best $70 I've spent in a long ass time.

I had both but returned the Mini+ because the RG is better built night and day difference. Its a shame because I liked the smaller size of the M+ but at the end of the day the better build quality matters the most and that longevity

Don't buy the miyoo mini + I just got mine the black one has aolt of light bleed from the green power light on top very distracting also the screen on the bottom right corner you see some white light behind the black bezel also the game list isn't that good
