When starting out it's a bit intimidating coming into a busy anchorage. How do you know where to anchor? Watch this video to see how we do it!

My first thought on reading the title was.. ‘Closest to the bar!’ 🤪.. and then 52 seconds in….😉 It’s not our fault -we’re English 🥳

Hello was wondering if you were still doing the charter? My wife and I would be interested in booking a week maybe February 2023 and learning what it's really like. We may be buying a 42 footer in two years and sailing the east coast and Bahamas for a year or two at retirement. Thank you

Hey Jeffery. At the moment we are completely booked for the year and we're not going to release dates for next year as we're unsure of where we/the boat is going to be. You can fill out our Britican Experience form and get on our waiting list if you're interested? Full details on our experiences are here: sailingbritican.com/liveaboard-experience/

How do you know the scope of the other boats? What if you’re swinging a much bigger circle than other boats? We once anchored near someone who had a big weight on his chain and then only had a little 2-3 :1 scope!

You don't know Brent. We often base our speculation on nationality! The French don't put any scope out and the Americans put 7:1. Any boat coming from the Med (European flagged boat) will usually do 3:1 as that's what they're used to. We stick down the middle at 5:1 unless we're at Gustavia in St Barts, and have to do 3:1 because it's busy. So we look at the flag of the boat. I'm half joking but you'll find I'm not far off. You can always ask as you're anchoring - other sailors are happy to tell you where their anchor is and what amount of chain they have out. In eight years we've only once had a situation where we almost swung into someone and it was a 150' super yacht. After we anchor we always stay on the boat for an hour or two to make sure we're a safe distance. Usually, issues come up when there is no wind and if you do swing into someone it's going to be a very light touch. Hope this helps. K.

Thanks for the tips and your perspective on anchoring. In the Pacific Northwest of the US, we have huge tides, so that is always our biggest concern. It's terrible to go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning on the hard......

I hear you! We learned to sail in the Solent in the UK. The tides can be 12' to 15'. We use an anchor alarm so that gives us a bit of peace of mind. Kim

Great job! I like the mix of narrating and 'live action'. Two questions: 1. Is there a specific cruiser's guide you recommend? Our future cruising grounds will be Puerto Rico into the Leeward Islands. 2. Why is the iPad more updated than the chart plotter?
@Sailingbritican
@Sailingbritican 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew. Thank you for the feedback. 1. The cruisers guides are called Doyles guides and they are the only one's available. Quite a few cruisers don't like them. You have to read in between all the back handed 'recommendations' and just get the fundamental information. It's better than nothing. 2. Our iPad hooks to WIFI all the time and we only update our chart plotter from time to time. Actually...now that I think about it, since we have our new system I could hook it up to our Internet! Data comes at such a high price I block everyone/everything so we have enough to do work/get weather/etc. I wonder if the plotter updates automatically. I have no idea. Something to look into! S.

Some very helpful tips in this video, I actually forgot a bit. (even though I helped anchoring Britican numerous times.) I like this series of how to boat videos.

Thank you Douwe. We got these new bluetooth mics that reduce the wind noise a lot so we've been trying to do more action oriented videos. Happy you like it. Smiles, Kim

We have hundreds of videos...some of them have bloopers at the end. We've never done a full ooooops video though! That would be funny :) Thanks for the suggestion J....SK. Kim
