Around 2:13 that looks like a Song Dynasty Shou Dao. This is used one handed in conjunction with a shield.
@calis92011 жыл бұрын
I believe that is a Yanmaodao, which is a one-handed dao mostly straight edged with a slight curve at the tip.

Yes, the Chang Dao was the result of General Qi Jigua's successful efforts to counter Japanese pirates. The technique to use them combines Japanese Kage Ryu, which utilizes large tachi and nodachi, with native wushu and dao arts. Today, this is called the Miao Dao, and the art is still taught today. Miao Daos were still used in combat during WW2 against the Japanese.

Likely a Chang Dao from the late Ming era. This sword form and martial arts tradition survived through the Qing Dynasty and into the present day. In modern times, this is now referred to as the Miao Dao (Spout Saber). You can check KZbin videos of Miao Dao practice.

I have a Dao sword like the one at 1:35, third one down, and show close up at 1:42, it was wrapped the same way and has the same hard wear. its a willow leaf ( Liuyedao) only my blade is in excellent condition.I Estimate it was from the Qing dynasty mid 1700's, during the Qianlong Emperor reign.It has Cheseilled Dragons on Damascus, and probably found its way here during the boxer rebellion, but it was wrapped in gold silk.

@kurok1tenshi Did you know the Japanese actually learnt their steel swordmaking from the Chinese? They went on to improve on it but the process was very much the same.
@cosmos6913 жыл бұрын
@ChineseMonstah It's a Qing Dynasty sword, kind of chinese sabre for ridders.

@DaRyuStar619 Which particular sword do you mean? Are you asking for the type of sword? They do not have names as swords in the movies might. Most Chinese swords are varitaions of jian (double edged straight swords) and dao (single edged swords, often with a curve). If you would like a more specific anwer, please phrse your question more specifically.

Dario, the sword from from 2:21 to 2:29 is definitely a "dao" from either the Ming or Ching era, anytime from the 14th century up the late 20th century. My personal opinion is that it is probably produced in the late Ming, 16th -17th century? But don't take my opinion as a fact, I might be wrong.

Vin Lee, Skypiercer weaponry are fantasy weapons rather than real ones. As for the Green Destiny, it was a simple modern jian and most of the many copies are wallhangers. The weapons featured on this clip are real, historical pieces in a museum and a different class of weaponry altogether.

The Japanese looked after their swords more carefully. Chinese swords were excellent quality. In fact, it was the Chinese who invented the processes by which Japanese swords were later made. The condition of Chinese swords had nothing to do with quality - only with care.

@TheXanian judging by the swords shown, yes its a sword with song dynasty zhan ma dao style but its definitely from the qing period. i mean anyone can claim the republican dadao is from sung but its actually made on the warlord era
@Slic3R111 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty stupid statement, both iron and steel will rust if not protected well, the Japanese considered their swords more than weapons, that's why they took good care of them
@TheEfefefefefefefefe14 жыл бұрын
@kaiuycn but still, ive been searching for medieval chinese weapons/ armor and found no trace.. i mean, u can still see crusader swords from the 3rd crusades (which is almost the same period as tang dynasty) in museums but there is no trace of sui/tang/yuan/song dynasty weapons and armor. only potteries from those time survived. more over, why is it that only weapons from qin, han and qing survive? why is there a HUGE GAP in between?
@TheEfefefefefefefefe14 жыл бұрын
@Miledha can you explain to me why there is a HUGE gap in between the ancient china and qing dynasty? i mean where are the weapons and armors of sui, tang, liao, sung dynasties?

whay are chinese swords all rusty? I went to japan and saw katanas from the same time periods and it looks good as new. some of them dates back to tang/song period of china too. does it mean that chinese swords lack quality even at song dynasty?
@MrCocoRobot12 жыл бұрын
Around 2:56 we have late Qing Dynasty model of the Zhanmadao (horse cutting saber). I think earlier in the video there is also a Song Dynasty Zhanmadao.

@RabbidMonkee ... perhaps. It's certainly at least part of the reason though. We're all likely to draw conclusions based on our individual and limited areas of research. It would be good to hear from others who have actually done research. Opinions based simply on what others have said won't help us find the truth. So ... researchers, please share your thoughts.

The Japanese were once Chinese when they decided to escape prosecution from the king. Even though they want to be different, they still can't escape the fact that they have Chinese blood in their gene.

many of you ask questions about the Chinese swords why they are all rusty. well there is a tradition of putting all the property and swords to the tomb when the were dead . so many of the swords are rusty second, why during the tang, song, yuan, there were not swords can be find it is because China at that time was ruled by other nations they don't let chinese to forge any weapons or keep them so there is a large gap that there are not much swords can be found at that time
@lindaheenan33059 жыл бұрын

So many mistakes. Han, Tang or some other dynasties really pretend to expand their lands and influences. Actually they did it and very successful. In Han dynasty, a famous general called Zhou Yafu, he just want to keep some swords in his tomb when he dead. But he also dead because of this thought. It is about cultural in that period not about nations.

Those rusty swords have nothing to do with quality. From 0:20 to 0:30, these are examples of some of the earliest iron and steel jian and dao made, presumably Han Dynasty. These even predate the birth of the Japanese nation (Yamato era) by hundreds of years.
