@@Luscent she is indeed. Sometimes you've got to be "of the moment" and while things are fresh and current, you can add to it - without seeming to be "outspoken" if you were to just come out and say it. I think Marina's album is great. Loved that she wrote them all herself and thanked her producer for "staying true to her demos" It's hard in this world, even now still - for a woman to be "successful" in her own right, and be credited for doing it all her own way, only a few strong minded women have made it. The management companies usually make it very hard for them, i.e lack of promotion, lack of funding projects etc and then their is "do it our way or we won't work with you" (which has been known to happen too) Some of the independent women have come out saying they were refused to be seen by companies, strictly because they were managing themselves, it was frowned upon that a woman would even dare to. I think we can be thankful that Marina is one of these women who has never bowed down to it all, and as she says... "I did it my way baby, nothing in this world could change me" So yes, she is unique.

@@albertochavez4494 I've always thought this about Marina. While a lot of our "pop stars" follow a certain path, trend or melodic style - Marina will always take the "unforsaken road". Marina was in a relationship with Jack (from Clean Bandit) for 5 1/2 years, so the ballads hit differently knowing she wasn't entirely happy during that period of time near the end. Her albums have always had bits of socio-political topic to them, but she really dug it in in this album (the album was entirely written by her and she co-produced 5 of the tracks) The Family Jewels is very rough, alternative, young Marina...very experimental. Electra Heart was her transition into North American fame with a complete pop album using popular US producers (a great concept as she used female archetypes to convey her messages). FROOT she wrote herself and co-produced with one person and is often people's favorite along with EH (absolutely top-notch production). Her last album Love + Fear was very hit or miss with her fans, but since you have a bops playlist, I believe you'd enjoy it!! Loved this reaction - you really hit the nail on the head with everything she was going for (according to her) especially not hearing her whole discography :)

@@Venus.Y but she doesn’t generalize men. She doesn’t just care about women and women’s issues. She literally wrote a song for men about how women hurt men too. How they are hurt too. She has changed and evolved over time. Electrica Heart was almost 10 years ago. You can’t expect an artist to do the same thing over and over again. That’s just boring. I don’t know who you listen to but I really don’t hear many people make music about the topics Marina does. Also, she hasn’t waited this long to make a feminist anthem. Remember the song “Girls” from her very first album. It basically was a feminist anthem. It was about the expectations society has for women and how she didn’t want to follow them. There are many other songs she had written before now that were about similar things. Marina has opinions she wants to voice. She doesn’t want to be just an average pop star singing about partying in the club or how she just fell in love. Just because she wrote a few songs about her break ups and her past relationships doesn’t mean she hates men. Man’s World wasn’t about setting aside the good things men have done. Its lyrics criticize history's oppressive treatment of women and minority groups, and Marina states that she no longer wishes to live in a world led by men. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t care about men. It just means that she doesn’t think men should be all high and mighty and better than women. She isn’t ever going to go back to Electrica Heart. She said in an interview that she killed Electrica Heart with sleeping pills. Electrica Heart was meant to represent what Marina wanted to be at that point of her life. She isn’t at that point of her life anymore. Just because she talks about mature and important topics now, doesn’t mean she is a political puppet. Who would she even be a puppet for? I don’t think the left is paying Marina off to make this music. It is what she wants to do. Also stop spamming your opinions under every comment and then never responding. It makes you look like either a troll or just desperate
@wonderland45153 жыл бұрын
@@Venus.Y you need to stfu. Name me one artist that’s doing what Marina is doing? None. These are serious and important topics that need to be discussed and she’s doing it while being true to herself, stating her opinion while still having the classic Marina sounds and a lot of other things implemented in the lyrics from personal perspectives to social perspectives. This isn’t anything new for Marina, capitalism and feminism have always been big topics on her music. The woman is 35 years old and clearly she loves her art and knows what she wants to do with it, the last thing on her mind is trying to appeal the crowd. She’s always been political from the 1st album she released to this one, if you can’t see that you’re blind/deaf. Also if the message behind this album bothers you, you’re part of the problem

Ye had some very good responses to these songs, your input has helped me understand them more than I already did so cheers!😁It’s half an album I really respect/admire her for doin and half an album I really love that connected with me. I’m a massive Marina fan since day dot, I’d say ye should listen to ‘Froot’ it’s a very personal album and my favourite then ‘The Family Jewels’ which I feel her new album almost pays homage to for its bouncy/stylistic production nature and also our first introduction to an artist with some very valid opinions, then after that ‘Electra Heart’ which is her most poppiest effort but still very Marina then ‘Love + Fear’ which I felt lost some of her charm musically (although ‘Handmade Heaven’ is a Marina-to-the-core tune and my favourite off the album because it paints such colourful mental imagery with her wonderful lyrics which I relate to) but still had her wit and perspective to make it unmistakably Marina, it was a real welcome back after a long hiatus considerin’ to leave the music bizz! Anyway look forward to catchin’ your reactions to Marina in the future, she is an incredible artist!👍

She's always had a large dose of political and social commentary going on in her lyrics. She's far too intelligent to write exclusively about shallow stuff. This is her best record since "The Family Jewels". Strong throughout, much more organic. Love it.

All of the albums are worth while - A lot of people will leave Love+Fear off, but it holds a special place for me. I also think that it is more contemporary where some of the beats on The Family Jewels and Electra Heart are of their time - still fantastic albums but a number of reactors have struggled to appreciate because it's been 9/10+ years.

Love your reaction to this album, Luscent! Since you are appreciating the songwriting as well, I can only agree with the other diamonds, that you might appreciate all the albums. Earlier on she of course is not as political, but she knows how to tell great stories. Disagree on the opinion that Love+Fear is not as good. The songwriting on almost all of the tracks is still A+ in my opinion. I can understand, that a lot of people do not like it as much, because the production is for some of the fans maybe a bit too clean, but I love it nonetheless. PS: Also her accoustic versions are stunning to me. She did a lot of accoustics especially for her earlier works.

I kind of disagree on your statement on the 3rd song. The mens world one. I don't see it as political at all. As she is not talking about political parties or political opinions I see it as social issue but not socialist. Socialism is a pollitical term, true. But caring about what kind of society we live in and what we value is a personal thing. Hope you know what I mean. Going on now. Additional thought on the America track. America has the biggest potential to be a place where tolerance and social equality can grow because of the amount of creativity and ideas it has but it seems to be only for the companies and not for the people. So it is like: Be the best version of America you can be. Otherwise totally agree with what you said. Looking out from the inside was scary the last few years. Unite fellow humans, who happen to live within the boarders of the United States, don't let the capital devide you. Oh, you so right (imO) about the lot of thinking people did during lookdown. I was all frustrated before the lockdown but it really gave me time to think about what is important. Like sharing emotions with trusted people. Spreading happiness and joy instead of always complaining about unimportant stuff. Going on Not much more to say. The first song is in my playlist since I first heard it.
