I respect that comment, but for me - this album hit from the first note for me, I guess for no other reason than I grew up in the '60's and 70's so my first memories of music are these vibes. Much respect, be safe and be well.

As a '60's baby from the UK. I sat, with my headphones on, in the dark, already open to what was coming next. Solar Power hinted at it, Stoned at The Nail Salon nibbled at it, and Mood Ring winked at it. With each, and EVERY song, Ella confirmed it for me. This album, in all it's nooks and crannies, is a thank you. It's a love letter to every person who raised her, and quite literally, every musician who raised her Mum and Dad. The vast majority of her loyal fans are not my age. Their sonic emotional journey through life is not that of me, my contemporaries or her Mum and Dad. But, they're going to absolutely ADORE Ella for introducing them to the music that storied her childhood, that shaped her musical sensibilities, that made her feel safe. Thank you Ella, thank you Mr. O' Connor and thank you Ms. Yellich. And Thank you Dylo - you've restored my faith in youth, social media, and the power of music.

Lorde said that the meaning of “Lead of a New Regime” “This song is set in a distant or not-so-distant future, one where the environment is unlivable, society has broken down and we’re all escaping to our far-flung natural sanctuaries to start again. I liked the image of a former popstar packing nothing but magazines and designer dresses”

I definitely love the album. I dont think it's fair of all the critics to say "but it's not like her last two albums". of course it's going to be different, she released melodrama 4 years ago. and I'm glad lorde finally found happiness! this album is so good, it feels like relaxing on a beach, with a cold drink in your hand 😁

this album is exactly what I was expecting based on the singles and it didnt let me down. I definetly dont think it's everyone's cup of tea or something to be listen in every moment but that's totally fine. I also think that it have two or so songs that just are kinda boring which is ok. But I love how she broke everyone's expectations towards it, she's amazing

The Path is just *chef’s kiss* This is the kind of album where you don’t have to be critical of anything, shed every expectations and pressure, and just vibe with it. That’s exactly how Lorde meant it. And for that I really appreciate this reaction video. I don’t get people who compare it to Melodrama. It’s not Lorde’s fault she matured and healed emotionally and they didn’t lol

It’s so Magical and Sounds Sophisticated, it’s like i’m walking in a museum and everything has its own story and feeling…. And the 60’s with the early 2000’s track and of course her poetic lyricism, So Unique, A Masterpiece that i never heard or my soul is finding for this whole life. Thank you Lorde for making my life meditated. ☀️💛

I think you're right that the chorus hook on Stoned undermines the rest of the vibe and message a bit but I think its on purpose ya know? Lorde is having these internal reflections that mean something but also she might just be feeling some sort of way and overreacting. Being "melodramatic" if you will so Lorde being the self aware person she is, shoots out that tongue in cheek chorus line where she's just like "yeah im being pensive and thoughtful and maybe it means something but also who knows maybe im just baked and need a snack" i love it

The “Cherry black lipstick” line in Oceanic Feeling is a reference to the Pure Heroine era or just her past in general. During PH she wore a lot of black lipstick and now she’s saying she’s a different person now because she has this “power”, and she doesn’t need it anymore 😁

Mood Ring This may help a little nd perhaps answer a few other questions The theme of this particular song is a very tongue in cheek satirical dig at the "Wellness Industry" and Lorde is in character for this song - hence the very specific Blonde aesthetic. Ella kindly gave the fans who were able to attend the Live Pre - Premiere Chat with her this morning, the necessary back ground and heads up, which also explains her unusual vocal delivery. If you think back to Melodrama, the second part of Track 6(?) was Hard Feelings/Loveless. The Loveless part had an extremely unusual vocal delivery which represented the fury and pettiness and vindictiveness of a grieving lover. Lorde is a master of evocative emotive vocal choices and phrasing - and this new song is very much "Poking a very Large Bear -With the very Large stick" that is Ella's intellect and IQ. She has a rapier wit and this a very cleverly crafted masterpiece that forms one part of the 3D puzzle that is the Solar Power Universe. I love your reaction videos, keep it real and don't change a thing.

Another great reaction - thank you 🙏 There is only one track where I get a much different meaning from the one you take - Dominoes - where I think she is being much more critical of the guy she sings about. A “wrecker” of sorts, who is able to bounce from one relationship to the next, treating women poorly, leaving a great deal of destruction in his wake while he gets to simply move on relatively unscathed. Your analysis of Big Star is spot on in a way, albeit she is singing about Pearl, the dog she loved and lost in 2019. So sad 🐶😢

The critics remind me of the type of person she’s referring to in Mood Ring…. I can’t feel a thing (can’t connect with this album) and also we can get high but only if the wind blows in the right way (I’m so up tight I can only enjoy Lorde if she’s giving me Melodrama). Her message..She’s not your saviour you are your own saviour, tune into your own Solar Power.

Man with the axe was my least favorite on the album but somehow I'm finding myself singing it to myself and I love it very much....man with an axe for me is best described by the line "you felled me clean as a pine" so she fell pretty hard for this person as if she's a pine tree and he has an axe he just swings it at her and she falls for him

I enjoyed the album a lot, however I don't think it'll be one of those albums that I'll keep listening to on repeat - that's what Melodrama's there for for me. Was already expecting quite a big shift in her music after such a long time since releasing new music, but I was still hoping for a few more ups and downs throughout the album, although it was very enchanting and kept luring me in. Anyway, I can appreciate the album for what it is, although I wouldn't have guessed for the album to sound like this - hoping for it to grow on me some more! Thanks for the reaction & analysis, was very calming to watch your reaction in itself :)

This album is evoking the 60's 70's hippie and cult crazes with the lyrics and the mix of psychedelic rock and folk sound. It's like she's bringing that era of music and culture into a modern context because we're kind of going through similar cultural movements. Like crystal businesses are popping up left and right online and more and more young people are getting into "new age" healing stuff. Goop is a thing. Young people are also vey politically active and outspoken these days. She's obviously critical of the hippies of the past and it seems like she's also being a bit critical of the modern day "hippies"(the Goop types) but it's coming from an empathetic point of view. Like she can understand wanting to find a way to heal and to find a way to deal and escape but she's also critical because this way of dealing hasn't worked in the past and we need to focus on more direct action to actually change things. But also take care of yourself and enjoy the moment while it's there. I might be reaching in that second paragraph.

@Luscent - I hope you don't mind, I have zero interest in hijacking someone else's channel, but as you asked I'd like to offer some thoughts I had about this album. This is literally my opinion and not necessarily a fact but, With all due respect and I mean ALL due respect, I'd like to offer a couple of ideas that may answer a few of the questions you had...... This Album is a sublime autobiography, love letter and thank you all rolled into one beautiful document. it is the most comprehensive, cohesive and complex ode to 60 years of musical styles, musical genres and specific artists all while sharing with us, her fans, the music that's bookmarked her life! What a precious gift!!! Literally every song is delivered flawlessly in multiple iconic vocal and musical styles that are both a tribute to specific artists, (sometimes just stylistically), but in almost every song, a tribute to a specific album, song AND lyric or refrain all at once. It's genius! To produce an album that's going to remind older folk like me of times long forgotten whilst telling her own story. That concurrently shares the musical influences of her life's journey to date with her contemporaries who may never ever have heard the music from the '60's and '70's that went onto influence the Pop stars of the future - is GENIUS!!! To be blunt, in my humble opinion - this is the most complicated, complex and comprehensive compendium of 60 years of "Pop" music ever produced in a single Album. This album will keep giving to every listener for decades to come because it's handed her fans THE KEY to a life times journey in music.
