In this video, we'll examine the period of ancient Egyptian history known as the First Intermediate Period. It was a chaotic time when the over millennia-old political system of Egypt broke down and new "dynasties" started popping up in various parts of the country.

*The Mandate of Heaven must be uphel- Wait* As an aside, as a Chinese to me the ancient Egyptian (and many other stable agrarian river valley culture's) association of only having one single sovereign as legitimate and reflecting harmony and stability is quite interesting.

It does not need to have those conditions: Rome was in that situation too all the way until, not the fall of Rome in the 5th century nor that of Constantinople in the 15th century but either the abolition of the Holy Roman Empire by Napoleon's neo-Roman (French) Empire in the early 19th century or the destruction of the Ottoman Empire, which also claimed to be the only true Roman Empire in 1918/20. On the other hand Sumeria lacked that kind of imperial centralism altogether, they did have a notion of a "King" (ensi, equivalent to what you say) but it was basically decided by war, and not so much by inheritance (i.e. they recognized one among their rulers as hegemon but no continuity other than that forged by violence). So I'd go by some political structures managing to have a legacy of prestige that is reclaimed over and over and seldom if ever completely eradicated and replaced by some new order in name. Egypt for very special geographical reasons has always been a hard to divide country, much like you could say Japan in East Asia: not so much for the riverine nature but because it has a geographical compactness that "naturally" unifies on its own. China in this case I'd consider most peculiar but in any case compares better with Rome than with Egypt. The difference is that, once Da Chin (Rome) entered the warrying states period... it remained in it until NATO established (even if probably very precariously) the Pax Americana of today. There was always an emperor or two until recently, just that most "nomarchs" did not recognize him as their superior but just as their de facto equal (or even a weaker fossil from ancient times). Much like in China, but a century earlier, it was only republican revolutionary ideology which got rid of emperors (and most lesser kings). It's quite possible that there was a revolution in Heaven itself, where the Patriarch god of old was replaced by the Goddess of Reason.

Seems in those times a global climate crisis ocurred, not just affecting Egypt. It is known as the 4.2-kiloyear event and scholars still discuss the causes for it. Other civilizations also collapsed, as the Akkadian Empire of Mesopotamia, weakened by famine and finally invaded by the "savage" gutians.

I am honestly curious to see how this story will continue. it's hard to believe that this stuff was seen as ancient history by the later ancient bronze age egyptians themselves. Damn this culture lasted for a loooooooooooooooong time. It makes me wonder if eventually in the distant future, countries like the US, France, Italy and many others will also "disappear" and be seen by future societies like we see ancient Egypt today. Hopefully they will not find us too boring... since we live in a relativelly more peacefull era than the Bronze age or medieval times...

They will of course, much like Egypt some may still exist nominally but radically changed into something unrecognizable, speaking foreign languages and having adopted foreign culture. That's assuming that we survive, because the kind of problems we face now (environmental sustainability in the only planet we have, nuclear war risk, AI singularity risk and trans-humanist god-playing madness) are things that ancients could not even dream of in their worst nightmares. Our level of catastrophe risk is much bigger than that of the Copper/Bronze Age.

If this is correct, then by all means...the 7th and 8th Dynasties should be merged with the 6th Dynasty due to their blood ties with Pepi II. I mean the 6th Dynasty King List is relatively short. As I said in a previous comment in another video, the Dynasties of Egypt should be reevaluated and reorganized at this point. Revisions doesnt mean erase the old king lists. But merely just as I said....a newer revision based on new information.

😅Ankhtifi is one of the most boastful villains in history. His stele says basically that EVERYONE in other Nomes were starving & reduced to cannibalism, but anyone he ruled had it good. IOW, the first "I alone can fix it" narcissist we stumble across in Egypt. He had no connection to any of the dynasties that at least pretended to be legit. He was an upstart, a parvenu who was angry the elite ignored him. 3,500 years later & we still deal with the type.

Were rulers of the old kingdom also bragging about feeding the starving in their tomb inscriptions, or is this level new? Because, although obviously propaganda, a tomb inscription mentioning people resorting to eating their own children would be indicative of a catastrophic period, unless this was some sort of common trope in tomb biographies.

The backbone and nerves system of all this history is began with kemete (the land of black people) so the new comers and invaders took over kemete at later. so try to be balance the history. After all Egypt is inside Africa plus human race is originated in African rift valley, then by no means Egyptian can't be alone Egypt Egypt Egypt Egypt .... no. the real evidences never tell us what you mention. thanks.
