It, oddly, ends up having the opposite effect a lot of the time. I remember a video coming out some 15 years ago that threw people in a tizzy for suggesting a lot of parallels between Christian mythos and Egyptian; it wasn't the most accurate, but the postulation seemed to be that if a parallel could be drawn, if discounts the efficacy. That, of course, isn't true, but when you treat a belief system like it HAS to exist in a vacuum, you cannot be surprised when the believers, ignorant to the evolution, are confronted with new information. Tolkein, iirc, actually took the opposite approach, and believed that Jesus was the fulfillment of ALL of these belief systems and structures, sort of arguing for a collective unconscious theory that perpetuated stories leading to (or in unconscious reference of) a the "true Christ".

The question becomes: Did Jesus, aware of Dionysus, set himself up purposely to bring about a literal parallel to him in space and time history? Did he purposely come to, among other things, to fulfill tropes related to the most compelling aspects of Bacchus and other mythological expectations of the golden age? Or did early Christians write fictional history so as to make stories and motifs to elevate Jesus into a more powerful deity? There are plenty of Christian apologists (C.S. Lewis, John W. Montgomery, etc.) who make the case for the former. I myself, am in the process of doing so in my Christian Apologetic series that can be accessed on my video channel.

@jexelbur6872 if you look, every single past culture had an archetype of psychological wholeness or "Self" and they all parallel in the sense of a death then resurrection and the rescuing of souls from "hades/ hell/ underworld etc." I'm leaning to this underworld concept being this reality and the archetype being within as the messiah which rescues one "soul". Even the notion of antichrist being each person that hasn't been "Reborn" or "awakened the dead", which may be psychological wholeness and a harmony with the unconscious mind. The false prophet as a symptom of the antichrist spirit we naturally develop past childhood. It makes a bit more sense looked at as if it were a reoccurring psychological deviation to enforce development and evolve the psyche as society, technology, external stimuli etc evolve at a parallel.

Every experience you have is unique and will not be repeated. Every perceived night sky is unique and will never happen gain. They held the highest importance because it is why we are here and we seem to be the first civilization to totally lose the concept.

You nailed it very well. The circle of life and death, and the mythology behind, is also central to Buddhism and its "wheel of life and death" (Bhavachakra). I am personally very "inspired" and in the quest of understanding the true nature of reality and of my own existence. I've come to the conclusion that, indeed, we "survive" from our physical death, but not like it is being "sold" by the Christian churches, who invented a story, the story of the physical resurrection of Jesus, the Trinity, and all other dogmas, for one unique purpose : story telling to the lay people, the "ignorants". YET, AND HERE'S THE IMPORTANT, I truly believe that my personal story and life "is not meaningless" and doesn't "stop" at my physical death. All the nature shows me that it is driven, governed by cycles of death and rebirths. Look at vegetation on earth, look at the back holes giving birth to galaxies of billions of stars, look at Suprrnova stars giving birth to solar systems like ours, look at humans where children replace physically and "spiritually" their parents. You don't "die when you die", you continue the circle of life : the life of the whole creation, the whole universe ! Did you know that ALL your body cells have been replaced after 7 years ??? And I ask you : how come are you still there ??? The fact is : your age is not your life on erath's age, your age is the age of the universe. Conclusion : you never truly die. Derek, et al., It would have been unusual during and right before the time of Jesus to have very strong similarities between Jesus and other Greco-Roman Savior deities without there being some syncretism between the two religions. Put another way, if the story of Jesus didn't somewhat parallel the preceding stories of Romulus, Asclepius, Zalmoxis, Dionysus, and others, then it would be OK to say that it is wholly unique and possibly divinely inspired, but that's not what we see. Quite the contrary, we see detail after detail nearly perfectly matching in general theme and motif preceding and very well known fictional stories, stories that would have been known to and read by any person with a working grasp of the Greek language. It would be difficult for someone at that time to have learned to read and write in Greek without them having studied, read, and memorized the classics.

Very interesting video about the dying-rising gods of comparative mythology. I have studied these stores myself and this is a very fascinating theme. Dying-rising gods are metaphors for the "death" and return/"resurrection" of plants and vegetation from winter to the next spring, a very simple concept to understand which fundies try so hard to deny. Wonderful video. I also think that these dying-rising vegetation gods are linked to "drugs" i.e. herbs and plants, for example, imagine Jesus "up" on the cross aka tree is a metaphor for getting "high" on a plant/herb. It also reminds me of the Buddha attaining enlightenment underneath the Bodhi Tree, perhaps a metaphor for Buddha expanding his conscience from psychedelics.

Legendary King Arthur was said to have come back to life after residing in stasis in a cave for years and remained alive centuries after his supposed death. In some ways a refusal to believe that Hitler was dead and still lived was a continuation of this resurrectionist belief in a more recent time.

Hi I left Christianity this time last year, I am now an atheist! For 30 years I would've claimed only Jesus is True...because that's what I was told, we were never told about the plethora Of very similar sounding beliefs and gods, and we were encouraged to stay away from looking too deeply into the history of the bible. Since leaving Christianity I have become 50% convinced jesus is just myth, and 50% believing there was a guy called jesus, (but not the bible jesus), he was just one of many apocalyptic preachers at time. Since leaving christianity, I have found the bible far more interesting, seeing the various myths and legends that have been added!

Watching your videos I keep being amazed that the world so willingly embraces one mythology over all the others. If the Romans had not pushed this specific mythology of Christianity, would the world still be embracing Zeus and that Roman pantheon? Would the few massive columns from the Temple of Zeus in Athens be the most sacred site? Would modern day people be unable to resist the centuries of societal conditioning to embrace Zeus & Co? It's just so amazing people in the 21st and other modern centuries cannot live independent from historical conditioning. The stairway to heaven sales pitch is just so utterly successful that it makes individual human intelligence just a term for inbred compliance. Moo on queue people. Moo on queue.

That's a misleading take on the growth of Christianity. Christianity grew and spread within the empire long before the Romans as an empire started pushing it. Christianity conquered the empire from within. If Christianity hadn't begun or hadn't been so persuasive, I suspect another ancient religion would have done so instead - Zoroastrianism, Manichaism or some other. There were more contenders than we tend to think of today for something distinct from old Roman paganism. Something like Islam might also have come along later, even without Christianity's influence. It's also not the whole world of course, as the mention of Islam should remind us. Christianity was mostly confined to the Mediterranean world and then to Europe after Islam expanded, until it spread more widely with colonialism.

@BenMaslow-x6g It's interesting that that isn't a huge concern in many ancient religions, like Roman paganism. Or even really Judaism. It's there in some places like Egypt or the focus on reincarnation in Hinduism, but not as ubiquitous as a Christian viewpoint makes it seem.

I must admit that I am more interested in resurrections after Jesus. There appear to be many people resuscitated today after many minutes or hours of no heartbeat. Can you see the connection with venus that comes alone in the dark, rises in the day once, and in the dark other time. The connection with Orpheus. The connection with Lucifer of ascending to heaven and wanting to sit in God's throne. The morning star is the star that comes before the sun, like the one that announces the 7th day, the shabbat. And afterwards it comes in the opposite movement I guess announcing the night. Is it Satan? This is debatable, it's considered for many, but these are different things. For judaism yes, because Lucifer opposed the prosperity and life of humanity, so this myth might be the only tradition which shows us the "origin" of this metaphysical entity, shatan means the enemy the one who opposes go against.

As a NDS I can say I have lost much of my life force or Chi, but I only ever saw God when on acid otherwise and it put me on a path that I maybe should not have taken.
