In 2017, we were assigned with the reconstruction of Ancient Rome in 3 time phases (!) for a renowned exhibition. For the project, we collaborated closely with historians, archeologists and experts, thus the result represents the latest scientific status.
There has never been a 3D model of Ancient Rome before reconstructed on such high level of attention to detail and completeness.
More than 46.000 houses as well as various temples, monuments and arenas were virtually rebuilt by our talented 3D artists for this ambitious project. Even roof tiles, windows and facades were reproduced as accurately as possible .
An enormous effort - for us as history fans and 3D experts in the reconstruction of historical settings, however, an intriguing challenge and true affair of the heart!

It was hard to tell in this quick bit, but are the statues still bare marble? Should they not be painted as they would have originally been at the time?

we have tried to keep the balance between what today's viewers expect in Rome and the presumably real historical facts. Our Rome is colorful in large parts but not in every detail. Yes, you are absolutely right, eventually Rome could be imagined as the interior of a southern European souvenir store.

Kudos. It's a minor nitpick but, color. Almost NONE of the statues have color. I saw one just outside, what I assume is, the Senate with a red-painted Toga and there is some red above the temple.
@FaberCourtial
@FaberCourtial 21 күн бұрын
The colorfulness of ancient Rome is a difficult subject. We know that it was largely colorful. But how exactly were the colors used? Were there regularities in the color combinations? We have deliberately decided to handle this sensitively. But it is also important that Rome in the period depicted was a city between decay and a new beginning

OK, OP, there is a controversy in recent digital reconstructions of the area above and behind the Tabularium. Even in this video I see some discrepancies. One fellow of one project got all huffy when the question was put about whether or not there was/were a temple(s) above and behind the Tabularium. In the brief explanation it said you were "assigned with the reconstruction of Ancient Rome in 3 time phases". So, you know where the plaza that Michelangelo made, it's never been taller than the Tabularium. Yet, in one of your shots, and in another reconstruction there was a full-fledged temple with pediment pushing way up behind/over the Tabularium. No other reconstructions show this. So the question is, could we clarify and document why these discrepancies exist? A minor question is always about the true height of the Capitolium where the Temple of Jupiter was, and its relative height difference between it and the top portion of the Tabularium. Oh, and also, there is the question of whether the number of columns in the portico of the Temple of Jupiter was 6 (as you show) or 8. I know there was a previous temple with 8 (?) that burned and the last one whose remains existed until Pope Nicholas V carted it all away may have had 6 or 8. Please clarify, thanks! Thanks ever so much in advance for NOT getting huffy but also expecting your interesting reply and corrections!

Thank you for your comment and interest in our reconstructions of ancient Rome! When working on different versions of our Rome model, we tailor our approach to the specific needs of each project. In some cases, like film productions, we explore the maximum possibilities of historical interpretations to achieve a compelling representation. For the area around and above the Tabularium, we've implemented different scenes based on customer requests, often opting for a 'maximum interpretation' to enhance the visual impact. This approach allows us to explore various historical possibilities, even those that are subject to debate among archaeologists. For example, while the existence of the Temple of Veiovis in this area is supported by some evidence, the extent of other structures in this vicinity remains a subject of academic discussion. Regarding the Temple of Jupiter, particularly the number of columns in its portico, our depiction with six columns is based on a combination of archaeological findings and historical research, reflecting one of the temple's possible phases. We always strive to balance historical accuracy with the narrative and visual requirements of our projects, incorporating the latest scholarly insights to present the most authentic portrayal of ancient Rome.
