0:01 _Dawn's Gentle Light_ by Renee Riva 4:35 Welcome. 5:43 Father Stephen De Young, pastor at Archangel Gabriel Orthodox Church in Lafayette, Louisiana. 6:03 Father Andrew Damick and Stephen De Young are different people. 7:18 Father Andrew Stephen Damick works full-time for Ancient Faith Ministry as their chief content officer, a position he started 5 to 6 weeks ago. 7:44 Both Fr Damick and Fr De Young have been the assistant pastor of St. George Orthodox Cathedral in Charleston, West Virginia. 9:25 Fr Stephen De Young is a Biblical Scholar. He has a Doctorate PH.D. In Biblical Studies. 10:08 Fr Damick is more practical and more professional as a broadcaster, Fr Stephen De Young is more deeply studied in Biblical Studies. 11:21 In a Learning Process together. 11:47 12:07 Spiritual Geography 12:35 A Belief in Orthodox Tradition: St John The Baptist goes to Hades to preach. 13:42 *"Unless you're oriented to paying attention to it, you're probably just going to skip over it."* 14:38 It's important to lay this out at the beginning. 15:06 (It is preserved in the Church, we come to see these connections with experience and help from others.) *Laying The Foundation* 18:28 The Lord of Spirits Podcast goes live Twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Thursday's of the month. *Materialism* 19:08 Materialism is basically the belief that only matter and energy exist and math and science can explain everything is just bouncing particles. *Immaterial* 20:30 We believe there is an Immaterial Reality. *Being a Materialist not on purpose but by habit* 21:11 Modern Christians are Materialists "Not on purpose, but by habit." 21:32 Ex. Eating pizza and hot wings. Your body lets you know it wasn't right to do that. 22:22 Most of us are materialists by habit. 23:10 Medicine and Prayer. 24:57 How to alter your habits so that you are more human. 25:23 Atheist and Christian worldview switching. [brackets] 27:17 "I just believe in 1 God less than you do." 28:08 The Pandemic. 29:10 The Union of The Seen and The Unseen. 29:54 Fr Stephen De Young has done an Exorcism on a house before. *Lord of Spirits, why is this podcast named Lord of Spirits?* 30:20 31:05 Lord of Spirits is one of several titles ascribed to God in the Enochic Literature. 31:36 It is a title for God that describes his relationship to The Heavenly Hosts. 32:12 The Parallel Title is "Lord of Sabaoth." Lord of Hosts. 33:25 "Holy Holy Holy Lord of Sabaoth, Heaven and Earth are Full of Thy Glory." 34:10 O'Lord of Hosts Be With Us. *The many ways the word **_gods_** is used in the Bible* 35:49 37:41 We're now back. 38:07 Thank you to Stephen Christopher for doing voicework for this podcast. 39:21 The Reality is that there is just some things that are in The Scriptures. 40:29 The Atheist has no qualms about bringing up uncomfortable stuff. 41:26 That's why we are talking about these things. 42:12 Ex. Psalm 82/81 in The Greek Septuigent. "God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods..." 43:56 Ex. Psalm 89/88, "Let the Heavens praise your wonder, O YHWH... who among the sons of God is like YHWH?" 44:59 "O'Lord God of Hosts, who is like You?" 46:00 Exodus 18:11 God Judges The gods of Egypt. 47:10 "They notice that there is lightning in the sky." - says the Atheist. 48:02 God of gods and Lord of lords. 48:41 The Great King above all gods. 49:17 The Fathers "Theos" He Is God, it has to do with His Dominion and His Rule and His Power. 50:22 Spiritual Beings are called gods, little/lowercase g. 51:37 The Fathers talk about Theosis. 52:08 Words, what they mean, how they are used (important). 52:38 Elohim is used to refer to any Spiritual Being. 53:15 1st Samuel/1st Kingdoms, King Saul consults with a witch, asks her to summon up the Spirit of Samuel. The witch starts freaking out, "I see a god coming up out of the earth." *The Controversial Exodus 21:1-6* 54:46 Someone working in indentured servitude wants to stay in their indentured servitude. There was a ritual for this person. 56:12 Exodus 21:5-6. "he will bring them to the gods." 57:16 The Greek says "bring him before the court of God." the counsel of God. 58:21 Referring to Departed Family Members. Take them to the Doorpost. 59:16 3 kinds of beings are described as gods: 1. Angels, 2. Demons [Rebelling Angels], and 3. Dead People. 1:00:15 6-Year Old John Cassian wants to know if Angels can die due to Demons attacks. Good Angels cannot be killed because they don't have mortal bodies. 1:01:29 Evil Angels cannot kill Good Angels, however, Evil Angels can die. 1:01:58 Physical Death = What happens to humans, when a dead human's spirit is separated from the dead human's body. 1:02:45 Death does NOT mean "Non-existence" for us as Orthodox Christians. 1:03:28 A moment of technical difficulties, and they go to break. 1:04:14 _The Shield of Psalmic Prayer_ by Donald Sheehan, Poetic and Personal Journaling, approved of by Stephen Freeman. *Taking Calls* 1:06:04 Aidan From Illinois asks... 1:06:37 Daniel... *The Corinthians* 1:07:03 Stasia in Georgia asks about 1st Corinthians 11. 1:08:07 Why should a woman have her head covered? 1:09:17 Saint Paul is addressing former-pagan, now Christians, in Corinth, to fully separate from their pagan way of life. "That seems obvious to us but it wasn't obvious to a Pagan in Corinth in the 1st-century." *The Paradigmatic Sins of Idolatry and Sexual Immorality* 1:10:25 2 Paradigmatic Sins: Idolatry and Sexual Immorality, the worst is to mix those two together. 1:11:12 A Woman needs to be practicing modesty not just for other people, but because immorality in that way opens the door to all sorts of evils. *Mt. Herman* 1:13:08 Gareth from Louisiana asks about Mt. Herman. The site of The Transfiguration of Christ. 1:14:23 1:15:33 Mt. Herman is on the border of the Golan Heights. A Mountain seen to be the home of the gods. Natural Geographic Features, springs, caves, were the first temples for Pagans. A Shrine to Bael, a Shrine to Paneus, a Shrine to Baneus. 1:16:53 the underworld. 1:17:36 Transfiguration, Christ and Moses and Elijah being atop it. "The Gates of Hell will not prevail against it." 1:18:38 The Spiritual World overlaps with The Physical World. 1:18:58 Michael from Arkansas asks about Polytheism vs Monotheism 1:20:01 Christians are Monotheists, not Polytheists. 1:20:47 Polytheism vs Monotheism was a later notion. The Bible doesn't teach there is only one god, just that there is only One God we Worship. 1:22:17 A Pagan god is a Fallen Angel (a Demon). 1:22:54 There are many gods, but we are only to worship The God. 1:23:39 Monos and Theos are both Greek Words. Polytheos refers to Pagans but not Monotheos. They expressed it as Monarchia. 1:24:22 The Evolutionary Taxonomy View of Religion. 19th Century German Liberal Protestantism. 1:25:24 Some Universities teach that Christianity evolved from Polytheism to Monotheism. 1:26:52 The Plural form of gods is more common in The Dead Sea Scrolls than in The Old Testament. *What do we mean when we say One True God?* 1:27:29 God is The One True God, He Holds All Authority Power and Dominion. 1:28:29 True God. 1:28:57 Raphael about Guardian Angels. 1:29:37 "How can I deepen my relationship with my Guardian Angel?" 1:30:27 How do you interact more with your angel? 1:31:07 "O'Guardian of My Soul and Body" Guard my soul, guard my family, guard my community. 1:32:56 Help Me Today. BE with me. 1:34:25 St. Raphael of Brooklyn. They are assigned to you. 1:35:08 Frank Peretti mentioned. 1:35:58 The angels bring prayers from us to God and messages from God to us. 1:36:53 Thank you for bearing with us in this 1st episode of The Lord of Spirits Podcast.

In memory of my dear friends George and Thea Cvijonvich of Serbia and Switzerland. George was Serbian Russian Orthodox and his loving wife/partner Thea was Swiss Celt. George saw his parents dragged out from their home and murdered by WWII Communists in Yugoslavia when George was only 17 years old. George and Thea were Russian Orthodox Christian. George worked on Radio Free Europe during the war that killed his family. May God bless my friend George because he was the person whose kindness and Christian statement showed me that Orthodox Christianity is the bridge between the original Christian faith and modern Protestantism. Bless you all. I was raised methodist but sadly didn't understand the fullness of Orthodoxy until late in my life. Bless you all. So sad that there are no comments. Bless you for preaching the old faith even though there are few comments. Much love to you for this ministry. Much love to you for enduring sharing the faith, when things seem bleak.

@@lordofhostsappreciator3075 but the tradition both EO and RC hold today came much, much later after the Scriptures - meaning, after the 1st century, so we absolutely CANNOT hold later views from any church father on the same level as the apostles! so, p. Ingram is correct. later tradition (anything after the 1st century) doesn't hold any author or obligation upon us. it's certainly phenomenal to read, study, and learn from them, but they were/are not authority! the same goes with so much adored Augustine on the West. i do not hold him as authoritative in my life at all.

Good. I am glad to see that I am not the only Protestant cautiously interested in Orthodoxy's viewpoints. I think they remember many things the West has forgotten, but the West has the technical side of salvation and doctrine understood better. We are only missing a better cosmological understanding.

Superb. When I was an atheist scientist, the existence of "false gods" did lend a lot of credence to dismissing God the Creator. The more I learn, the more it seems like maybe after Christ undermined their influence and control over the world, the satan probably uses their diminishing relevance by likening them to God. If we're moving toward not believing in them, then he just has to push us further in the same direction. Just a thought.

I have just started to listen to your podcast and I will start from the beginning. This is excellent information, and very happy to see the church talking about these esoteric things that are clearly in the bible. Unfortunately in the past one would have to go to protestants to learn about these things found in the bible. Jesus said just as in the days of Noah so will be the son of man. We must be prepared for the coming of our messiah and the time that will usher him in.

Interesting conversation, I typed "demons in orthodox understanding" and someone mentioned this podcast on some forum. I am at 27 minutes now and I definitely agree that dead visiting us is almost certainly demonic activity and that people are oblivious to this. However about Buddhist miracle being demonic activity I can't be so sure, yeah it could be but a lot of their practices are somewhat similar to our own like: fasting, non violence, mantras(thinking of hesycasm) and meditation. Yeah there are tweaks here and there but basically these effect people's minds similarly to our own so who can say that a devout Buddhist can't access energies of God and get some of the gifts that saints get. Even when I read of capabilities that devout people get from eastern religions they are all the same: remote viewing, knowing time of death of self and others, "supernaturally" telling people about their future children, knowing everything about a person they just saw for a first time, praying or otherwise intervening for someones health or knowimg the outcome of the sickness. It could be definitely if they go to those "gods" of theirs to get them or preform a miracle but some people just have those abilities from devotion to spiritual practice, I don't think that God gives saintly abilities only to orthodox. Like we are 300 million people 4% of the worlds population I just refuse to think that 96% are devil worshipers or cut of from gods gifts.

They have episodes about specifically what kind of worship would be demonic. It’s not that 96% of people in the world are worshipping demons, it’s that within various non Orthodox religions you see what’s typically a small subset of people attempting to initiate spiritual encounters. And completely opening yourself up to the spiritual world ready to receive whatever is out there is dangerous because there are demons out there.

Why do you never refer to our Lord as Lord Jesus. You only refer ro Him aas Christ. Christ is not a name; it's a title--Greek for Messiah, "Anointed One'". That makes Him an impersonal abstraction, a symbol. His Name is Yeshua, Jesus. This makes Hium personal. Which is what we need.

They do refer to Christ as Jesus. The reason why not just them, but many prefer to say Christ regularly rather than Jesus is probably for the same reasons one would prefer to refer to God the Father as "God" rather than Yahweh. "God" is a title too.
