Hey, I live in a rural area, and the occasional fireworks are nothing, but the gunfire... it’s like Dodge freakin’ City sometimes. Sheesh. “And how!” is pretty weird when you think about it. Maybe it’s an invitation to go on, “Tell me more, brother!” but we’ve just shortened it to a noise of approval. English is full of ridiculous bits that used to make sense. You know, as an older person, it really horks me off the way young people keep eroding the language. Now when I make up words, that’s a creative improvement... but “reaching out” for making a phone call, or “gifting” someone with a gift...we call that “giving,” where I come from. Gah. I listen to old time radio shows, and I can see where a character’s catchphrase could easily enter the common language. I guess before mass media we had ...songs and Shakespeare? I dunno. Interesting to think about.
