What am I missing? Do I misunderstand the meaning of the words 'attraction' and 'repulsion'. To my understanding the Beetle Wings were repelled. Okay would other objects of similar shape and mass also be repelled? It would be great if somebody could tell us why we should care about what we have just seen? What was the significance of it?

Their are some wings that move towards the hv source and then shoot back and forth. Most are just repelled.

@@FalconSpace When they are not charged, they might get attracted by polarization. Once they come near the electrode and get charged, they are repelled by equal polarized charge itself. School physics classes do this experiment with a Van de Graaf generator and a piece of cotton.

Like charges are supposed to repel each other. How was that wing attracted ? It shouldve been pushed away.

@@FalconSpace An electric field is never purely one polarity. There are regions on negative and positive that fluctuate.

@@FalconSpace I noticed your movements almost create a back draft/swirl motion that perhaps puts charged air on other side of the shell/wing.

Now glue that all on a plate all facing the same orientation and see what happens then
