Great job with that tone sounds so close and I’m surprised you’re not using any tone match or anything
@MisterSwagify4 жыл бұрын
I honestly hate how much most guitarists rely on BIAS tone-matching nowadays, because you won't develop a good ear for tone if you don't ever dial it in yourself, and there's also a certain sense of authenticity in recording a mic'd amp versus recording all digitally. Emulation software can sound pretty close, but it always lacks that sort of natural resonance and it can't actually feed back properly when it needs to. Also, I'm tired of hearing people sound fantastic on a computer but sound like garbage when they actually plug in to play live, so its actually really refreshing to hear someone get some tone organically for once. If you wanna see someone else with a really great ear and no tone-matching software, check out Fil Olivieri over on SoloDallas.
@nick_terrorx4 жыл бұрын
MisterSwagify I try to do this with my real half stack but it’s literally impossible to have the exact tone without bias or plug ins. The only other way is to use literally every single thing Metallica had during the recording of this

Fairly sure the To Live Is To Die interlude was played using the EMG81 btw. The clean parts in the other songs are likely the 60, but that specific part is very flat and metallic, indicative of the 81. It's been EQ'd and there's lots of chorus on it as well, but it's hard to get the same sound on the 60 cause it's inherently a lot fuller sounding. If you're playing through a DAW, try slapping on a chorus and a low cut at around 6-700hz, and you can get very close to the actual tone.
@someyoungguy37322 жыл бұрын
Yep, I also noticed it sounded very good with the 80 with a high pass/low cut filter. I think James initially plays it with the bridge pickup then flips it to the neck when the drums kick in.

Could you please teach us how to do this? When you are searching for the album tone, how do you do it? Is it all trial and error, or do you have a guideline from beginning to end?
@someyoungguy37325 жыл бұрын
Alot of the clean tone is trial and error. Especially the justice clean. But there are certain general "guidelines" to follow for example: we know James used an explorer with a emg 60 in the bridge, then they probably used ada mp1 preamps for the cleans through a mark iic++ poweramp. Since there's no amp model for that, I used a mesa lonestar which is the closest thing to that. Then just try to fiddle around with the eq for two hours until it sounds close. If you don't have patience for that, you can eq match or amp match "which gets you better results". And another thing which is commonly overlooked is "NEW STRINGS"
@amrickdhillon12835 жыл бұрын
SomeYoungGuy Thank you for this! One guitar tone ive been wanting to match is ACDC’s tone (both Malcolm and Angus). On the surface, it feels like it should be an easy tone to match, but for some reason there’s always something missing!
