I’m always on guard when first hearing a young person’s cover of an older song, because in the American-Idol era there arose an unfortunate urge to soul-ify every song to death, for the sake of displaying one’s vocal chops above all, rather than opt for the subtlety that many great songs demand. But this young lady serves the song first, which in turn illuminates her talent all the more easily than vocal acrobatics could. With a tear in my eye, I’ll say, “very, very well done.” Thank you.

Decades of soul music being associated exclusively with endless vocal runs and random high notes has created an environment in which a word like "soulify" is used to imply a work was robbed of its soul.

A lovely version of a marvelous song. For the first minute I thought the pretty girl was there to look good and give moral support to the pianist; I was delighted to hear her start to sing, a pleasure worth waiting for. These two musicians make a great team. YooToob threw this at me randomly. And I'm glad it did ... 😄😍👍

Not better, just different, and still nice. Billy Joel said he was encouraged to write a hymn, and this was the result. A guitar can't do a hymn very well (IMHO) but your choice is still very nice. Well played and well sung. This version has a kind vocal delivery with a warm and unstructured piano accompaniment, but its meter is not in the true vein of a hymn. Go listen to the DR Pigekoret Live version of this song. They beautifully deliver and maintain the hymn nature of the song. Then ... go listen to Billy Joel's official version again. It IS STILL the best, even in 2024, after listening to all those covers, over all these years.
