It's not the first time you see Marciano missing a punch and falling to the floor on momentum. This is an impressive demonstration of how he charged his punches with the whole body. After the KD follows a beating so savage that the referee stops the fight even if maybe this wise decision seemed premature to some onlookers, if compared to the standards of the 50's.

Rocky took 5 or 6 rounds to solve the style of the skilled and experienced boxers he encountered at the upper levels. Once he found a way in he became overwhelming, and was devastating in rematches. The 1st Marciano/LaStarza fight 3 yrs before was his first after nearly killing Vingo in the ring and he chose to box him, winning a close decision by a knockdown. LaStarza make public his displeasure with that decision before the 2nd fight, and so the Rock let him have it in this one.

La Starza said of their previous fight, a punch to his forearm in the 2nd round numbed his whole arm. Ali mentioned too that in some playful sparring, Marciano hurt one of his arms with a punch. Now that's power, since it's from a padded glove.

AND from a fighter who'd long since retired! Reports are many, that his punches didn't have to land on target to cause damage: the bruising and fatigue from covering-up were just as effective as his on-target blows.

The secret behind Marciano's victory was his constant pressure on the opponent without leaving a gap for the opponent to punch. His unique style is followed by joe Frazier and mike Tyson, and the reason is simple because they are of the same length and this is a successful technique for the Shear Boxer not leaving a distance and the constant pressure without retreat

@@daveoliver5838 that's not what Muhammad Ali said whom actually sparred a few rounds with Rocky while making the so called computer fight of the century. Ali started rubbing Rockies head when the champ was Bending down and the Rock gave him a couple of warnings to stop. Then Ali said he unloaded on his arms a couple of times and they started becoming numb. Hard to hold up against the champion Rocky Marciano in a real fight. Underrated ring savvy. He knew how to get inside and defeat the more experienced and more skilled boxers he encountered at the upper level of boxing. He used to lack of reach to advantage by being willing to take hits and lose points to get inside where the shorter reach increased his hand speed and impact.

Roland La Starza was a great boxer and a hero for serving in the Army in WWII. But the only reason Rocky's first win was a "split-decision" and not a Unanimous Decision, was because they were using some kind of jacked-up supplemental scoring system in that bout that didn't award points for knockdowns. And Rocky had knocked La Starza's ass down in that first fight. Roland talked a lot of crap about that loss. I think Rocky shut his mouth this time.

I mean if you're going more than 5 rounds with rocco then you deserve respect from any boxing follower...lastarza was decent he only ever got knocked out twice once by marciano and again by Julio mederos lastarza was on a 37 win streak before fighting marciano and lost by a SD over 10 rounds pretty sure lastarza became an actor aswell.

How about Jersey Joe Walcott, Archie Moore, Joe Louis, all three champions in their own right. Ezzard Charles was a great fighter. Rocky got better as he had more experience and had a punch like a mule and a chin of granite.

@albanyorganics3030
@albanyorganics3030 2 жыл бұрын
Rocky was always losing on points until the late rounds when strength and conditioning overwhelmed more skilled and experienced boxers. Thats why he looks overrated to some. He wasn't slick like Sugar Ray Robinson or smooth like Joe Louis or sharp like Ali. Marciano didn't have any physical gifts to lean on like the others. He was just unstoppable.

You don't throw your own punch and swerve from the effort, it was an indication that Marciano was low on gas at that moment.

I dont know, he could have overthrown that punch, but yeah, i guess he could have not had much gas reserved by that point.

Marciano threw himself out many times (Savold, Moore) because of the lack of reach (67") he would miss punches from range. Trainer Goldman shortened his punch from the crouch to keep balance and constantly moving/falling forward. He lost points taking hits but made up for it with strength and conditioning telling the tale in the later rounds.
