Here's hoping someone one day finds some footage of any Maxie Rosenbloom fight. To date none have surfaced or known to exist with one exception. Cus D'Amato was said to have shown Mike Tyson films of Maxie, who they emulated in developing Tyson's "Peek-a-Boo" Style.

What is glaringly obvious is that in the older days the fighters entered the ring within the limits of the respective division. In the past 20 or so years fighters always enter the ring 10-20 pounds heavier than the division limit. A real disparity in comparing eras.

Ezzard Charles is the greatest Light Heavyweight of all time. He beat Joey Maxim three times Lloy Marshall, Jimmy Bivins Also he went 3-0 including one stoppage over a prime Archie Moore. gave away his best years to the military in wwII went 30-1 against world class opposition from 46 thru 49 when he won the heavy weight crown. Was a master boxer and lost much of his killer instinct for finishing opponents after a bout in 48 Sam Baroudi died from head injuries. Added only 5 to 10 pds going hvt

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Foster in Vegas in the early 90s? Maybe 92 during an Evening of celebrating some of the great fighters of the past. Looked slim and trim very nice. Gave me an autograph & was a true Class act gentleman And how soft spoken he was. I know he lost to Frazier When he moved up to challenge heavyweight. There were many others Going back to the 50s. That I cannot recall. But I remember also meeting Carmen Basilio And talking to a friend of his telling me he was one tough son of a bitch. He had to be to beat Robinson. I couldn't wait to get home and tell my father who got me interested in the fighters of his time.

Here's your list 1. Archie Moore 2. Archie Moore 3. Archie Moore 4. Billy Conn 5. Bob Foster The fighters listed spent all their fighting careers in the light heavy weight class. Moore and Conn occasionally challenged the Heavyweight title, but they never really fought an entire year of their careers at 180+ Moore fought over 90% of his career at 160-180. Conn's heaviest weight was 175 for the Joe Louis fight. He was the closest to winning the title of any lighter fighter. He had it for 12 rounds, then got stupid. Damn Irish blood. He could have held on pts by running away for 3 rounds, Louis would not have caught him.

This is a great series. As I kid this was my intro to boxing classics and past champions. I had this whole series on VHS. It actually all started for me with video games. First was Mike Tysons's punchout. After that I became somewhat interested in watching boxing. Then came the games Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing and then its sequel "Greatest Heavyweights" and that was really the game that did it. It had 8 of the greatest heavyweights of the past all wonderfully rendered and the game play was awesome. It also had short bios of each fighter. After that I was hooked. It was only a few months after that when I discovered this series at my local library and I burned them all onto vhs. This was the era of hbo and showtime boxing and USA Tuesday night fights and then ESPN Friday night fights. It was one of the best eras for boxing. Now compared to then is total garbage. Its sad actually. The fact that someone as awfully skilled as Deontay Wilder can be at the top of the divison shows how muchs its devolved. Plus some guys from the 90s and early 2000s are still around fighting competitively. This is the worst heavyweight division in the past 100 years and quite possibly of all time.

I am curious to know why Michael Spinks isn't mentioned here. He was an undisputed light heavy weight champion and was the first light heavyweight champion to defeat a reigning heavyweight champion. Just goes to show how underrated Michael Spinks is. He's definitely one of the most underrated light heavyweights in history. Maybe this is because he was successful at winning the IBF world heavyweight title from Reigning Champion Larry Holmes and it would be out of respect for these really great light heavyweight champions that he isnt mentioned as he did stay at heavyweight for the rest of his career after winning the title from Larry Holmes. I don't blame him for not returning to light heavyweight. It was a smart business move on his part as there was more money to be made as a heavywight.

Harold Johnson was way ahead on points and had knocked Archie Moore flat on his face in the 10th round of their title fight. At that point stooge referee Ruby Goldstein made sure Johnson didn't get another punch off at Moore before the bell rang by giving Moore a standing count (not done in title fights in NY then) once he got up. Moore came back to knock Johnson down in the 14th round and Goldstein immediately stopped the fight. Moor refused to fight Johnson again.

I think Roy Jones Jr. would have beat any of them. The guy won championships in 8 different weight classes including heavyweight. Michael Spinks should definitely be included in this mix. He had to fight heavyweights Holmes then Tyson to find real completion. Bob Foster didn't have much success with heavyweights but the light heavyweights all backed away for 15 rounds. I would say in order of greatness Jones, Spinks, Foster, all too big for Archie Moore.

@anUntouchable You don't have a clue what you're talking about. Jones is probably a top 10 175lber, B-Hop isn't (though undoubtedly a gret fighter) and Calzaghe isn't a top 30 LHW even if you allow him his Super Middleweight resume for bargaining power.

Curt Gowdy jabbers and shows he doesn't know shit about boxing. How obnoxious. And of course he gets in the obligatory sales pitch for Ali.

I watched this video in its entirety and no mention of Ezzard Charles who is widely considered by most to be the best lightheavy ever. These two so called experts are jokers .This post should be erased.
