Thanks so much for your explanation about "how you can do this," Mike! I'm one of the "I-don't-think-I-could-do-this" people, yet I can order a hamburger at a restaurant or have bacon with breakfast without connecting it to or picturing the animal. Again....I still don't know if I could do it, but I SO MUCH appreciate you and Erin for being able to do it and for giving your animals a good and caring life until it is their turn to leave. The public would really freakout if food was scarce. Too many people just think food will alway be there in the stores waiting for them. They really are too stupid to understand the supply and demand of goods scenario that society goes thru 24/7...365 days a year. I bet in the future you will be watching calfing via drones while you are in your recliner drinking coffee...nice video.

I am glad there are people like you left in the world increasing dominated by "factory farming". Those pigs live a great life until that one day. They are free to walk around and play, not confined indoors. The same for the few steers you raise for slaughter. If your viewers want to see contrast, drive by any feedlot. And unlike you, I am bashing the factory farmers. The commercialisation of farming has not led to a better society. In many cases it has bankrupted family farms. Yes, it has made meat "cheap" but at a great cost to the lives of animals and humans.

Taking animals to the butcher so they can be processed into food is not essential travel? What planet do those folks live on? Probably the same planet where meat is made in grocery stores.
@MrTechFreaks
@MrTechFreaks 4 жыл бұрын
Ha! Short Story: I raise yaks (for meat) in Minnesota. During one tour with a group from San Francisco one lady was absolutely certain that her meat came from the back of the grocery store and not a farm. She was totally serious and a bit confused that meat came from a farm. It was crazy!

I would say while getting livestock to a processor is essential, and the decision to accept the risks-benefit on taking them now vs a month from now is something only the farmer can do. Staying on the ranch is safer, but then the livestock are not making money for the ranch, and cost money in terms of extra feed.

Sometimes people are just blessed with an overabundance of stupidity. Like the woman who criticized the small farmer for butchering a hog and asked how he could be cruel enough to kill a living creature when he could just have gone to the store and got meat there like the rest of us. Don't know what she thought those MEAT products were made of....

Hey Mike some people don't understand the butchering process my grandparents were farmers so I understand but someone has to raise pigs, steers, goats, and so on for people to eat this has gone on for thousands of years it's the circle of life and not to offend anyone but something has to die so others can live people have to eat 🐖🥓😋 bacon makes everything taste better no calves for Erin so what's next for our Wyoming life keep up the good work and see you in the next video 🤔🤠🥓🥚😋😃😉

Back a few decades ago when my kids raised pigs in 4H, I wanted them to get it that after all the care and going to the fair, the pigs would be food. So, the first year they named their pigs, “Bacon and Bits,” and the second year, “Pork and Chop.” This was especially important for them, because they were city kids with a new country Mom. Thanks for all you do to bring reality to raising food.

cows never like having calves while there is a weather high...the next low they'll be popping them out...well that's how our cattle used to do it. All quiet on the warm sunny days that make calves jump right up and run like the wind. Drizzle, rain, snow, fog...that's the time for calving! Warmed many a calf up in the pick up, had one cow jump in the bed and stick her head through the sliding back glass, that got interesting in a hurry! Keep up the good work, y'all are the blessed ones, I know I sure do miss it.

The cows can put off birth if they get a full belly of hay and get settled down as it gets dark.We have done this for years and do a 9pm check and 6am check and sleep all nite. 95% of the calves are born between those times during the day.

I noticed the bale come off, but just assumed that was part of the plan until you said something about it. Thanks for your contribution to the food supply chain. I work for a grocery store and I see the stress that is on the supply right now. I had the opportunity to listen in on some of the conference calls with the buyers getting creative with how to ship product more efficiently and diligently looking for other ways to keep Americans fed.

Processing day is difficult, and your doing a necessary job for feeding livestock and improving your land. I started doing this 3 years ago after not doing it for 8 years. I produce beef, pork, and lamb. The processor i use has a very good way of running their operation.

Hi again MIKE Beautiful day out there! Surely .makes the day go easier. Many people don't realize the difference it does make with the meat how the animals are fed and in what kind of circumstance. Stress filled conditions do make a big difference also. Once you've tasted the difference you'll know what that means... Truly Mike some of those types of questions can just be snarky and others because they just don't know or understand anything about raising food animals. Those questions really do open the door for educating which is a great thing for many reasons. You're absolutely doing what you do for the right reasons and in the best way possible!! So enjoy the calf check rides and will be happy as you and Erin to get the show on the road l!! Catcha next one!

I learned from a very early age that anything that entered the farm was eventually going to be food for the family. Every animal had a name and a purpose! When my own children came along they learned that as well. We were lucky to have a mobile butcher and end of life was simple and not stressful to the animals. I admire your methods!

You can set coordinates into your drone while you drive around once. Then you can fly the drone on those coordinates while filming, download the daily flight and check for calves.

People here in S/W Missouri are having a hard time finding meat. Could you please send one of those unicorns our way? LOL LOL!! Seriously, I remember the days of raising our own beef animals and Dad raised them with compassion and kindness, and I wonder if that made a difference in the high quality of the meat. I'd like to think so. No stress, better meat. Anyway, thanks for taking us along as you continue living your busy, normal life.

We had our first baby calf last week. We're ready for them to start calving too. We're thinking about selling meet directly to customers instead of sending our steers to the auction this year. The farm to table market is starting to get popular here too. We live in what use to be called chicken capital of the World (back in late 60's. Our local chicken plants are working full force as they can trying to supply chicken to grocery stores. People don't realize production of food needs to continue or we won't have food to eat. We are already seeing fresh meat shortages in most of our grocery stores. Keep up the good work.

Try installing a locking pin in that pin for the feeder arm. As for taking the animals to Sturgis, it's part of the life cycle. Man was given dominion over all the creatures on Earth and you are doing an excellent job of growing those pigs and cows.

My wife got me into raising beef. She grew up in it. I grew up in town. Our first steer from birth to butcher was definitely a bit tough. But that good ol boy fed my family for a year.
