I just wondered why they did not publish the famous Seconds Out tour in a video format, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were publishing and Genesis itself was when Gabriel was doing his theatrics. I believe they felt they're kind of boring to watch, perhaps because of some contrast to Gabriel spectacular gigs@@marklamp8354

What a great show tour- really wonderful version of I Know What I Like ...always loved the throwback of Stagnation within... From Phil's getting the crowd in unison, Daryl just blazing on guitar, Chester driving with some really remarkable drum playing this tour always maked a really tight time for the band...

Phil has also stated that he has only once performed while drunk (Steve Hackett's first show with Genesis. Phil was mortified, thinking what Steve must have thought about his unprofessionaliam. He has stated that was the first, and the last, time he ever performed while drunk.) He did drink a lot in Japan on this tour, but was never drunk when working. Regarding 23:11 in this video, Phil frequently messed with Mike Rutherford like that to try and make him laugh and goof up. 😁

it's really interesting watching Phil sing on this one, because his presence is closer to himself in the 80s, but his voice is still on the softer side as with the rest of the 70s

I think the 1978 and 1981 world tours was the best for Genesis. And I really like their Prog-years best. But they sounded really confident and musically tight on those tours. The set lists they had for those tours was also very good and balanced. Covering a lot of ground. And Then There Were Three tour has the best versions of Eleventh Earl, One for the Vine, The Cinema Show and The Fountain of Salmacis.

I agree, with an exception, I have seen a version of Dance on a Volcano from this same 78 tour(maybe this same show) that he kicks ass on, The whole band was smoking hot. People kind of freak out when I say this but I think the loss of Steve Hackett affected their sound more than the loss of Peter Gabriel. When Hackett left he took with him that beautiful, otherworldly guitar voicing that is pretty much unique to him. His unconventional way of playing always sounded to me like he was having a conversation with God. Playing his parts as if it were a heavenly call and response

Interesting note! Those concerts in Japan was the final straw for Collins first marriage. He refused to take his wife with him, and actually ditched her on the airport before leaving for Japan after an argument. I have read an interview with Andrea from recently telling about this specific detail. Seams he didn't care much for having a wife and a child when the band hit big. He wanted to live the "single" life while on tour apparently. Collins was very selfish and a jerk back then. Maybe he couldn't cope with the pressure of being a frontman in the band. She said his personality changed when he took over as frontman for the band.
@fibboobbif7 жыл бұрын
Right. He was pretty much of an asshole... but also a genious, like Peter... Thats why the could not be in the same band any more after those early years until the lamb. I read an interview after he joined "The Musical Box" in Geneve, rehearsing and struggling for many hours, playing one song with them, and he still said those tunes are history for him.... even after having great respect for that band, the performance and the drummer Martin. LOL, some time after that he went on the big tour and played the old stuff again... I think that evening at Geneve made him respect the old Genesis work, and even his own quality of playing that he hardly could reach again after ll those commercial stuff..
