I think classical music allows true creativity because there is no “model answer”. A friend once asked me why I liked instrumental music. I told her because I didn’t like lyrics telling me what to think. When you are listening to an instrumental piece, you can think of what you are going through right now or try and imagine what the composer was thinking or how people lived at the time. Even if I listen to the same recording of the same piece during different times of my life I can feel very different. Lyriced songs just don’t do the same thing for me. I guess what I am trying to say is no one hears the same piece.

Couldn't agree more ... I do not need much practice to play pop music. But to play classical piece I need so much practice. Three minutes of pop song? Easy. Eight minutes or more for a solo piece? Can't keep a good intonation, if I don't practice a lot. And I feel so tired after an hour or more classical music (I can't practice more than 30 to 60 minutes a day because of my neighbours).

Could you try "only playing the notes like a robot?" That way it would be even clearer to people not familiar with the subtle differences of phrasing on the violin.

01:59 - those days when Brett had dreams... of playing the Mendelssohn violin concerto? Wow, it's amazing how far your guys have come since then, considering that you're now actually preparing to play the Mendelssohn violin concerto for a livestream with at least 50,000 people watching! Dreams achieved, I would say!

I actually wouldnt mind an extra video, where they go through this video and explain their thought process along and why it was two different ways. It is so tricky to catch everything and in my opinion a voiceover would allow them to explain so much and also highlight the technical stuff so much better. I would find it interesting

Wow I was talking exactly about that last night lol the way that music has to be felt, not just memorized. To phrase it better, the more you play a piece, the more it will end up sounding like YOU playing YOUR INSTRUMENT expressing YOUR FEELINGS with it. Same goes to dancing

There were some really magnificent moments in this vid - this is what years of dedication can do. Like, I've played many instruments - usually filling in where I was needed because I have a knack for being able to play a new instrument quite quickly - well enough for playing in the band. But truly, very rarely have I ever gotten to the point where I was playing music. I played notes. The few times where I actually heard myself they way I listen to music were surprising and emotional experiences. I think every musician who has gotten through that barrier between notes and music, even a precious few times like myself, understands this distinction very well.
