So I got into whiskey after leaving the Marine Corps in 2016 which is when I started looking things up on youtube and found this gem of a channel. After a while of watching you guys and your shenanigans, the term Magnificent Bastards was just sort of adopted by the two of you, then soon after, the rest of the tribe, here. My unit in the Marines was a unit based out of Pendleton in California, and our slogan was, "Second to None." Our nick name? "The Magnificent Bastards." Its been a few years now but I thought I would let you all know that it brings a giant grin to my face every time you call someone a Magnificent Bastard or I see a comment that says, "Morning all you MB's!" They're constant reminders that I'm still surrounded by my people. Cheers from Austin Tx. MB's!

@@Natural_Encounters That's awesome man! I was an RTO with 2/4 in Camp Mateo, up at the north end of Pendleton. Sangin, 2011-2012. Then it was the 31st booze cruise. Then through some luck and a lot of begging, me and about 20 of my unit were able to board a plane with 1/7 back to Helmand. It was always busy but a ton of fun. So you're gonna become one of the most sought after and elusive creatures in the Military?! Hell Yes you Magnificent Bastard! How's quantico?

The bigger factor isn't necessarily temperature, although that's also a factor. Whether alcohol or water evaporates more quickly than the other depends on atmospheric humidity. In humid environments, alcohol will evaporate faster. In regions with low relative humidity, you'll see water evaporating faster than alcohol, as a relative percentage of the angel share. Being in a hot area just turns up the total angel share, but the relative percentage of what's evaporating, water vs. alcohol, depends more on how much water is already in the air.

@dmshampton3 жыл бұрын
Talisker is very salty, it's why I love it so much. You may not want that much salt. Caol Ila 12 may be a good one to look into, its used in a lot of blends due to its rather subtle nature. Its more of a campfire smoke and less of the iodine/medicinal notes you're looking to avoid.

Daniel, how can water boil off before ethanol? BP water is 100oC and ethanol is 78.4oC (or 212oF for water and 173oF for the Neanderthal wing). Physics is real mate.
@danielwilliams79253 жыл бұрын
It's still a thing though, how else would you explain the ABV in the barrel going up over time? Possibly, the water vapour can easily penetrate the wood? IDK?
It's not boiling. Or really even evaporating. It's permeating through the wood which is apparently more a factor of relative humidity.
