Hey Daniel and Rex i was hoping you MBs could do another video about making homemade blends of whiskeys to obtain a certain flavor profile. Like salty and sweet, and I think I just made the best blend known to man. 75% Bunnahabhain 12 and 25% Ardbeg Uigeadail, while Laphroaig watches from the corner stewing in jealousy. Please try and enjoy, its like roasting a Chocolate Raisin with Caramel on the fire with Sea Salt. Glorious! Greetings from Carlsbad, CA

Hey guys! Since you tasted an MGP-sourced bourbon today, it reminded me: Can you do a tasting comparison of George Dickel Rye and Bulleit Rye sometime? They both use the same MGP whiskey with a 95% rye mash bill, and the only difference between them I can find is that the Dickel (heh) is charcoal filtered. If you could talk about about the difference in process between them, that would be super cool!

How come 1/2 the time I watch this show I incessantly find myself eyeing that bottle of Lagavulin 16 next to Rex's face? I might have to go do something about this one day! but I have currently moved from the speyside region from whence I started tasting whiskey, to exploring my homeland and the bourbons it possesses! I'm having a harder time with speysides now, they feel like they have lost some drama compared to bourbon. But I know I still enjoy the taste of malt, and that Lagavulin feels like it might have a level of drama I have come to enjoy... current favorite single malt - Balcones current favorite bourbon - Clyde Mays i have a soft spot for (peach/pear) type fruity vibes. with my old fav being the baking spices and brown notes category. I also have this bottle of angels envy that is totally interesting and different, kind of has me considering some wine finishes.

In regards to the farmer-distiller thing, American farmers would often distill part their surplus crop bc the booze would stay longer and could be used to barter for things they needed. This practice was so prolific that “The whiskey rebellion” sprung out of a tax on farmers engaging in this practice

Question about sourcing: Is it really so hard for a company to distill the liquid if they're going to store barrels for multiple years?
@alexhenao70724 жыл бұрын
Your comment was probably rhetorical, but here goes anyway. Its not "hard" perse, it has more to do with costs or business approach. Not just in startup and equipment costs, but the actual distilling process which takes a skilled individual and aging which takes time. Time is where the money is at, as in the time spent in the barrel is the where the real investment is, due to storage and maintenance of the barrels/rickhouse, etc. In the case of companies like Compass Box, they are more of a blending house and look at it as its own art form; buying different types and ages of barrels and blending them to create unique flavor profiles not able to be achieved through normal single distillery production/aging. In Japan, a company may own several distilleries in different parts of the country and create their own in-company or in-house blends, but are not technically considered true single malts. There are an increasing number of collaboration releases from US distilleries based on the idea of blending various distilleries. Or in the case of the sourced bourbon in this video, a unique blend of 12 and 3 yr old bourbons finished in a specific wine cask that wouldn't have been made otherwise if this company hadn't sourced it. If its a small craft, mom and pop, locally owned distillery with only a few yrs distilling, then it would not even be possible for them to make a release like this. This also gives new distillers a way to bottle and sell a product while aging their own stocks, and an avenue for the giant distillers like MGP to sell their excess stocks
@gregcampwriter4 жыл бұрын
