Just to be clear, the BMW is most certainly not my car! I was making a joke. In all seriousness, we had such a good time filming this video, I hope you guys can see that there is a difference between spending £1500, and £8000! Although I'm not sure which one sounds better! What do you guys think?

Agree. I like seeing different ways that players get close to iconic sounds, whether it's limited run custom shop stuff or budget friendly gear. Personally, I think they've come pretty damn close using the budget stuff in some of the episodes, but it's probably a little easier to hear the difference in the room. The videos probably need to stay under a certain timeline, but it would be great to hear Rabea and Matt A/B more of the gear in pursuit of tone (ie. try a couple different pedals on screen and debate which one sounds closer to the artist they're trying to sound like).

The Les Paul copy Slash used for AFD was not a Chinese copy. The guitar was a Les Paul copy but it was made by luthier Kris Derrig. Just incase anyone wanted to know.

Slash didn't play a Chinese knock off Les Paul! It was actually an 8 string George Formby signature ukulele , drop tuned and fitted with pickups salvaged from the Hendrix strat that was burned in the Isle of Wight festival. True story.

Izzy's tone is hard to define. AFD was mostly a ES-175 and a Les Paul Custom, but later (UYI albums) he used those in addition to Teles, ES-335s, and many different amps. Good job on nailing his lower gain counterbalance to Slash. Most people think GNR is really gain heavy stuff, but Izzy using mostly full-hollowbody guitars and vintage style amps with lower gain was the perfect balance against Slash's, actually very thin, lead tones.

Rob i honestly believe Rabea no pissing in the pocket , is one of the most versatile and talented guitarist yet to crack it big. i thought it was wonderful you did a bea signature guitar , who at his age and stage in career can boast (not that he would) having a sig guitar ! it would be great to see him take up a lead guitar in a backing band gig with a big name , to get his profile out there. i also really enjoy you and the captain and Dorje. I am a professional FOH sound engineer and work in the uk on the festival circuit every couple of years, as a break from some of the shit i have to mix here in the US. i have been in the industry for 20 plus years and although not in the position to be over picky who i work with i do have ethics and refuse to auto tune live ! i hope our paths cross at some time as i would love to mix you guys as i watch yours and adertons videos for hours at end. peace out

One of Lemmy's Rics wasn't authentic either (IIRC it was the maple one with white binding.) He sent a few basses to Rickenbacker to have them fixed up a bit, and they discovered that it was a fake. It was a _very_ good one though, but there were a few small details that it lacked that a real Ric would've had.

Yeah... a couple of grands. On a serious note: Yes, there's quite some tonal difference. I think this Slash sound is closer to what I usually hear of Slash than the 500-Slash-sound, and I like it a lot. This Izzy sound, however... I don't know how close it is, but to me it sounds worse than the 500-Izzy-sound and I don't like it a bit.

a fake and a handmade copy are two very different things bud. a fake is a shitty chinese copy like they referred to. and chris derrig was a phenomenal luthier. i would take that over whatever shit came of the gibson line any day.

@jam-session-tv

fake is an awfully negative connotation to a wonderfully crafted instrument that was made by hand with more attention than whatever they were rolling off the line. especially in the 80's. however you look at it it certainly wasn't a chinese fake as they called it. as having owned a few theirs a quantum difference.
@RorysIrishTour

yeah, i understand. But someone tagged a Gibson logo on the headstock, and its non original. We are disputing connotation of words. knockoff, fake, imitation, copy... just take it as a denotation.

The AFD LP wasn't Chinese at all, it was actually built by LA luthier Kris Derrig. And Slash's original amp was a modded pre master vol metal face Marshall 1959T from S.I.R. in LA. In fact it was the same amp George Dokken rented to record under lock and key.

I agree; Shields uses more pedals than anyone I have ever seen. But with his use of reverse reverb, equalizers and the tremolo arm, it would be something to see them try. I like the episodes where there is more of a challenge.

I think some less-mainstream rigs would be cool too. MBV of course, but someone like Geordie Walker of Killing Joke would be a _very_ interesting challenge, and KJ is a very influential band. Someone like Buzz Osborne from the Melvins would be fun too, and Bea's hair matches Buzz's! Also, for some reason I just really want to see Bea play weird Melvins shit ;) .

No need an episode for that : Gibson SG standard historic + a big stack Marshall amp (or four like angus because you have no budget !). All the rest is tone and playing. No effect for Angus. I'm a big fan of AC/DC by the way ;)

MagisterRiccardo96 : I have nothing wrong with the fact to do an episode on AC/DC but I really don't see the point on a by busting the bank, with a budget you have to choose the good amp (very difficult I think). With no pedal effect I find this pointless expect if there do an episode on AC/DC but with a very good explanation of how they used the amp.

MagisterRiccardo96 but i understand the point of the show that is "dreaming". But with by busting the bank, I prefer an artist like Prince with as a sound very difficult to find even if you have no budget. But you re right this my point of vue.
