Before Slash had his signature pickup he used Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro APH-1 pickups. His signature models are a slightly hotter bigger sounding version of this. Every guitar he records or performs with was fitted with these before his signature set came out.

Absolutely nailed this one. What this really brought home to me though was that if you have half decent gear, a good quality amp especially, you can sound like whatever you want with the use of fx and pedals. I'd love to see a video from you guys where you use a tele and make it sound like a Les Paul etc. Just to make people realize you don't need this boutique humbucker or that vintage tweed etc.

Slash did not have a real true Gibson les Paul on the first album. It was a les Paul replica. He used the Seymour Duncan alnico 2 pro before that first album.

Slash had the semour's alnico 2 pickups in his original afd les paul tho. It wasn't a standard gibson les paul. It was a luthier made les paul replica with the duncan pickups. Anyways great video guys! Guns N' Roses all the way!

Great sound. Such warm noises. As you say you were trying for the sound and I think slash would be mixed much louder as felt behind the rhythm. That was just in commenting of sounding like the record. At 12:30ish just made me smile the sound is so emotive and great.

they did it but i think they should re do it because the effect they used for lonely boy was way of by my standards, they used an EHX Pitchfork as there wasn't any Digitech Whammies left in stock even though i recall there was 4 Whammy DT's at the warehouse during that time it was uploaded and from seeing research Dan used a Boss PS5 but i don't think they make them anymore so the PS6 would've been better

Nice job. Almost spot on. Judging from the Sweet Child intro the neck pickups could do with a little less attack and little more midrange but I couldn't have guessed it wasn't Slash's rig with Slash playing it himself without the video, so awesome.

Before Slash's signature pickups (Alnico II PRO Slash), he always used Alnico II PRO pickps in all his LPs. The signature pickups are an exact copy of the ones found on his original AFD, built by luthier Kris Derrig.

They really could have just gotten a $100 Epiphone Les Paul Special and it would've sounded fine. They have Alnico 2s without the metal cover and they actually play decent with a little fine tuning.

Great "Sound like", this. You guys normally do a pretty good job but you nailed it this time. I wish I'd had KZbin and series like "Sound like" when I was first learning guitar back in the 90's. Guitar Techniques and Total Guitar were pretty good with the CD included but didn't manage to communicate the importance of tone and the different elements of your setup half as well as videos like these do. There's so much great content out there and this knowledge is so much more accessible the kids learning these days have no excuse for being purveyors of crap tone.

He says before slash had signature pickups he would've used stock gibson guitars and pickups ... But when slash recorded AFD he used the kris derrig gibson replica and what this guy doesn't know is the derrig came with Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 pro zebras in it already, which then became his signature pickup... So no, he wouldn't have used stock gibson guitars and pickups back then, maybe after the record blew up and Gibson got on board but this video is about achieving the sound on the record, which they weren't around for

You guys convinced me through many a sounds like video to switch to the dsl40c. I was using a Marshall solid stat cab and head and wanted to switch to tube amps. I am extremely pleased with my set up now! Love my DSL40C! Best bang for your buck out there!
