+Kenton “GeekyLemur” Schroer the reviews take place in the same room, the only diff is they get posted on robs channel, presumably because lee had him in as a demoer and andertons didn't have a KZbin following back then, per say. I'd take it it's been kept like that through commitment rob from lee.

I’ve had this amp for about two or three years now. Pros: It covers A LOT of ground. From chimey cleans to full-on distortion for classic metal. A lot of parameters available for tweaking. SCs, P90s and HBs all sound great through it. Lots of bottom end if you want it and the bright function on ch1 works wonders. The mid boost on ch2 really makes a difference on mid-oriented pickups (SCs and P90s mostly) and less of a difference for scooped HBs. The reverb is usable and the two modes offer some variety. Takes pedals well. Very low noise compared to my friend’s Blackstar Series One 50w head, which is a lot more expensive. Cons: The tolex looks a bit thin, low quality and cheap. If you go crazy on the gain control with stock valves it can be a bit fizzy.

Gotta say, every time I hear one of these bigger Laneys I'm always impressed. Whether it's Burgs and his LH100 or this. Both clean and dirty, or as a basis for pedals, they're fab.

Great video, one of the best amp demos I've seen in ages!
@erwocoolis94513 жыл бұрын
This was one of two videos that prevented the amp from getting as big as it would have deserved. The amp is perfect for the british mid saw and can do so much more. But neither the Andertons people, nor Laneys own guy, were able to really get the tone out of it, that it was built for. They use it like some sort of pedal platform. It is not. Combine it with a booster, turn the "tone" knob to the right, use V30s and it just kills, such massive and brutal Sabbath/Saxon etc. tones are possible. I'll never need another amp. But i need a second GH50R, that's for sure.
@3vergiven3 жыл бұрын
Totally agreed. It sucks that Laney didn't do a very good job marketing this awesome piece of kit. I've put the amp through its paces by playing multiple styles (jazzy, blues, hard rock, modern metal) and it accomplishes all of it with no problems. It does highly benefit from a booster or an overdrive to push that gain over the edge. I'll never get rid of this head.
@h.valkanovthe_4th_5503 жыл бұрын
A year and a half ago, when I was looking for an amplifier, all the pieces were already bought ... I knew I wanted exactly it! I managed to test it (GH50R-212) wow and I was in love, balance, width, compactness, wonderful clear sound, rock, to incredible hard metal! But they managed to steal my last piece again. I was forced to invest in something small and meaningful (Boss Katana mk2) with the idea of waiting, if necessary, for centuries to get it ... And what can I tell you, yesterday was my lucky day, after almost 2 years of wandering he arrived again, I said to myself, I have to be 1st. I already have this diamond at home. I decided to jump on (GX100R) the eldest brother of the GH family. I don't need any other brand, because here Laney has put everything not at 100 but at 101% P.S. As a fan of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, this amp even conquers the reefs of the Pantera ... It's amazing!
@LukeCannotSkate2 жыл бұрын
Well it TOTALLY is a pedal platform in my book, but in that exact way you described it. A good booster transforms this thing in a total beast. The Volume/Output controls in conjunction with the tone knob are incredibly useful and versatile. You can go from Alice in Chains to Exodus by adjusting the mids and tone within 5 seconds

@andrewt2487 жыл бұрын
Fancy FA Not really higher output, per se. Tele pickups are just like that compared to a Strat. Flat pole pieces and a steel base plate under the bridge pickup give them more muscle without much more wire windings. Telecaster is a rock machine! Dig it.

I'm seriously considering this amp for my stoner/postmetal band now. I need something with sweet tasty cleans that can also bring the ultra heavies whilst allowing pedals to pass through it smoothly. Gotta check the cleans on the Ironheart range first though. But this is a damn sweet deal for what's within my price range (alternatively I would go for something like a Marshall JCM800 or an Orange Rockerverb 50H).
@ReadyMindsetGo8 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah so, thanks for the review guys!

Hey man, I'm in the same boat actually. What decision did you make? As of right now I'm working digitally due to college/finding my sound. Getting a proper amp in a year or so
@ReadyMindsetGo7 жыл бұрын
Well since I won't have money for a new amp for some months probably I've actually been talking to a friend about putting in different tubes into my 5150 head, which is what I've been using so far. It works, but it lacks the definition I want and the cleans just aren't as great as I'd like either. So the current strategy is to see what I might be able to get out of that and at some point I'll see if it becomes my backup amp and I get myself a Laney GH50R, an AOR50 or an Orange or Marshall or something.

Impressive amp with the 4/12 cab air movement.....but in the real world at home, non guitarists missus, babies, neighbours......? How much 'real' difference is there at low volumes to a good smaller amp? Perhaps you could look at that comparison in the future PH? For all us now non-gigging, family 'retired performers', noodling at homey's? Got to mention the 'shirt' thing going on there too guys, same store sale?? :)
@donfox68798 жыл бұрын
+bvninja I imagine the combo version of this amp would be fantastic for a home tone.
@orlock208 жыл бұрын
+bvninja For a drive sound at lower volumes, use less speakers (down to one). I believe that's the most important rule there. The second most important rule is clean head room. A lower watt amp will start to break up in the power section at lower volumes than an amp with more watts.
@ReadyMindsetGo8 жыл бұрын
I would never imagine an amp head + 4x12 or 2x12 to be for 'at home' use, unless you live in a remote area or have a well sound-insulated room.
