I've got an Epi LP Studio, which I paid $550 for in 2022. Absolutely love it, super comfy and plays great. I'm a novice so I know my opinion doesn't mean much. But for me playing at home, it's really nice and I enjoy it. Also love my Epi LP Special.

haha Pete's reaction to the price tells everything :) They removed the expensive finish, hardware etc to cut the price down, but they add the push/pull system which make the cost higher than simple electronics ... and honestly, who really use the push pull feature? :) they are expensive cheap les paul guitars, I'd be patient and look on second hand market for higher range LP for cheaper price. Great demo guys, as usual!

It's even worse than that. The pots would cost nothing for you to implement yourself. 40 bucks at most. For Gibson (not switching pots, mass installing them, buying them in bulk, etc), it's negligible. Also they've added them multiple guitars in the past (mostly between 2015 and 2018) without it causing cost increases. So it's not established to drive up cost.

The Modern Lite seems pretty cool, because it offers something people actually want (a lighter LP with simple, straightforward features and humbuckers). The Studio feels a bit like a guitar without a purpose...you can likely find a used LP Standard for the same price or close. And why offer a heel access cut, but then not do a tummy-cut? I dig the Modern Lite though. I could definitely see myself with one of those.

i have a 1987 les paul custom lite, and i had a smartwood exotic and the thing i love about both of them is that they kind of combined the SG with the les paul. first off, they're thin, but also the neck is an SG profile which always felt a wider and flatter than les pauls. they're super throwable live.

Like I said in another platform - Epiphone and Gibson will only move customers away if this pricing will continue. You could buy a custom build guitar by lots of luthiers for the price of a nice looking gibson (like traditional, classic, standard) and you could buy a great PRS / Suhr / ESP/LTD for that.

I say the modern light with its very simple design and lightweight has truly moved me into a new territory. I got rid of those Gibson mid grade pick ups because those are not really very good quality pick ups truthfully but after putting some throwback repro PAF 60s clones in it and finding the right sound it definitely has a killer tone great mid range and I have also found that it’s not only great for teaching lessons and practicing, but it’s also fantastic for taking two gigs. I did not think this guitar would be something I would use in that way, but I found it light weight was so wonderful that You can just play it all night truly at 50. I will tell you that holding less paws for 35 years has certainly put somewhere on my shoulder and certainly. I have the arthritis too. I’m not going to lie, but this gives off great tone man. You know what is wood no question but putting the right pick up in if you’ve got halfway decent wood you’re gonna get tone, practice, practice practice practice as I’ve been doing it since I was a kid it’s funny through the six strings of a guitar. I have traveled all over the world, not only as a kid but as an adult, I’ve been lucky enough to play in some really opportunistic places And make a little money no rock ‘n’ roll star or anything, but I’ve certainly had a great time with the Guitar and it has been only second to a woman in my life without or exception to my kids I should say thanks for great demo man truly just wanted to watch this again. Was just playing mine last night But the pick up changed makes all the difference in this guitar really it really can allow you to make it anything you want. 5:32

Brilliant guitar and very happy with the purchase!

I have to agree - I went into my local guitar shop last week to look at one of the new Epiphones that everyone has been raving about online (thinking I might offload my 2013 Les Paul Standard and pocket the difference in price as I haven't been playing it that much of late and I could use the cash I'd get back for other things). They just don't sound or feel the same despite the looks. I picked up one of the modern studios for a back to back comparison and it was no contest. It's not just artificial prestige / USA build nostalgia - they're not the same.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE AND CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!! The majority of the sound, like 85 to 95% of it, comes from the player; Brian May's guitar tech, Pete malindrone, said that in the video a good while back! I was going to get a Les Paul Studio, but the one I wanted ended up being discontinued. But then I saw these new Modern Studios, and I'm glad. I ended up getting the wine red version (like the one Pete is playing). For those balking at the price, it's because on the Modern Studio, they put a little more attention to detail on it, similar as to what they do with a Standard, as opposed to the more affordable aspects of the Studio (like the mother of pearl inlay on the headstock on the Modern Studio, as opposed to just a painted on logo on the Studio, the cutout on the hell, etc.). Plus, they go on sale. In the US the list price is $2,000, but I got mine for $1500...the same price as the Studio. Also, I see some folks talking about spending the same for a used Standard or something. But the Studio has different pickups. Personally I prefer the 498/490 set over the Burstbuckers. I love the guitar I got.

I've got a 1997 LP Studio, back when they were literally a LP Standard without the binding and inlaid logo. I did a straight swap for a guitar that stood me at £235, so I don't expect to find a deal like that again anytime soon. It's got a 500T and 496R, replacement Grover tuners, is the same colour as Pete's in this video - but looks like it's been chewed by a pack of wild dogs - it sounds like a monster with 10 - 52 strings, and I love the fuck out of it. The earlier 90's Studios had ebony fingerboards, but mine is just rosewood. Forget Epiphone, try and find a 90's Studio.

They're fantastic players and have everything you wantin a proper LP, nothing you don't. I like the Tributes, but they definitely sound different and the feel isn't nearly as effortless as the studio. The wood type and quality is just better with the Studio. Unless you really want all the aesthetics, get a studio. Especially if you plan on using it for gigs and don't mind it taking a bit of a beating.

Guys, the guitar they announce as the 'new' (?!) Les Paul modern lite is actually something they produced in 2014, and it's called the 2014 Les Paul Melody Maker! ( And I'm a proud owner of it) Yes, same arch top but slim body with belly cut, same size, same design, same dots on the frets... The only difference is that MM comes with two P90s+ wrap around bridge + vintage tuners (old tuners are far better than the new line up)...A fantastic fantastic guitar in the collection. At the time it was announced, people were laughing to it, because they thought it was a student model, a cheap Gibson, a half breed! Hah, still one of the best guitars I own !! Due to it's reduced weight and arch top, it's comfortable than other LP's I've owned! With P90's, it's raw snappy and angry!! So never listen the people around you, go and try, and if you like it, grab it! Believe me ,it will be valuable in future and maybe you'll won't let it go and keep because it's a good axe! I'm just surprised that no one reviewing this guitar is aware of the past models or the history of Gibson models, so that's the lack of knowledge nowadays... So If you want an original USA made instrument, a real Gibson, don't even think about it's slim body etc or to the "lite" label on it...Sound and playibility wise no it 's not a lite guitar! The only thing annoying me is it's price tag. Even with the high inflation around the world in all countries, I still believe this guitar should be in 1200$/€ price range...I now understand that the new Gibson CEO wants to direct the players with low budget to Epi line up, and if somebody wants a Gibson label on her/his guitar, he/she must pay min. 1499 or more, that's the new rule...Time will show if this strategy is correct or wrong,we'll see..

I love many Gibson guitars and their sounds, including the ES-335, of which I own two models. But I hate the company's pricing policy, which I think is outrageous and completely excessive. As soon as they launch new models on the market, we can assume that the guitars have become more expensive again. Many manufacturers have proven that this doesn't have to be the case. That's why I say clearly and unequivocally: Adieu Gibson! Greetings from Germany Mic

@@frankcarter6427 Hi, Frank! I absolutely agree with you! I don't understand why so many guitarists (rightly) moan about Gibson's astronomical prices, but at the end of the day buy another overpriced Les Paul. As long as the majority of guitarists throw their money, for which they had to work hard, into the insatiable maw of this US company, they need not be surprised if Gibson continues to raise prices in the future. This buying behavior is completely irrational for me, especially as we musicians are not doing ourselves any (financial) favors. On the contrary: we are supporting this outrageous price hike. I will keep my two ES-335 models, but I will not buy another Gibson as long as this company does not offer a reasonable price-performance ratio for its guitars. There are so many first-class guitar manufacturers offering affordable instruments these days that fortunately you no longer have to rely on Gibson (and Fender). Greetings from Germany Mic

@@frankcarter6427 Okay - then a warm greeting from the "wild" Teutons to the county of South Yorkshire 😉 What did Lord Voldemort say in the last part of the Harry Potter films before the attack on Hogwarts? "They learn nothing ..." A statement that unfortunately also applies to the majority of guitarists when it comes to legendary brands. It's unbelievable that Lee has never read a Harry Potter movie or the books by J. K. Rowling. Here in Germany, her books are still an absolute cult, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I've read them all several times, even though I'm just a Muggle. 🙃 CU

Im still kicking myself for not buying a Gibson Melody Maker for 399!!! Brand spanking new Usa built for 399 quid!! I went to see The Libertines at the time and Carl Barrat was reckon one on stage! There now fetching 700 quid 2nd hand!!! It was the dog ear p90 with an adjustomatic bridge and no pick guard. There were 3 colours available, red, black or tv yellow and it was a really cool open pore, satin, nitro lacquer. Aargh!!!

For those who may cry "bUt InFlaTiOn." Based on the Inflation Calculator from Bank of England, £700 in 2027 is around £890.44 as of Jan 2024. So, no it's not all inflation that's pushing Gibson prices.

I have the impression that everyone agrees, the price of these products is not appropriate. The competition offers much more interesting things in this price range, I think we will move on. Furthermore, to my ears and despite the quality of the equipment used to record the video, they don't sound that good.

The Gibson Les Paul Modern Lite is basically the return of the late '90's The Paul II except with a satin finish instead of gloss, plus more colors. That's not a bad thing.

Modern lites are great. I demoed one for a week and found it to be almost like a Les paul shaped SG. It is extremely light and has a VERY think neck. I prefer a thicker neck personally, and still thought this guitar was easy to play. They will be a great value used in a few years.
