Just a reminder that getting low-latency synth-like sounds from a guitar without pitch-detection goes back to at least 1995 (VG-8). The more recent 2015 (SY-300) innovation was doing it polyphonically without a hex pickup. (And there are still more things you can do with a hex pickup & an SY-1000 or Spicetone 6appeal for those who want to go deeper.)
@sordel58663 жыл бұрын
The VG-8 was great: I've owned it for over twenty years and have never seen the need to replace or upgrade it. But in terms of price and practicality the technology has now been brought within the reach of many more guitarists.

@@sordel5866 Well, there are still things that the VG-8 will do that the GP-10, SY-1, SY-200, & SY-300 won’t do. To do it all still costs the price of the SY-1000. But-yes-the developments from both Boss/Roland & other companies are great at bringing down the price for parts of it.

Plug in to my Trace Elliott bass amp, direct out into my Scarlett interface then combine it with a BOSS loop pedal/drum pedal along with any additional effects pedals. The coolest thing is that I can record with my iPhone or since the Scarlett interface requires no power supply I can use BandLab, Garage Band or whatever to record on the tour bus, Van, hotel room etc on the go. Huge sounds and a good variety. And while certainly there’s a good learning curve to it at the beginning everything is preset and easy to understand and maneuver. Put simply. And when the hold mode is active, is it possible to change the preset without breaking that held sound? 2- Are the factory presets actually created with the settings that are also tweakable by the user? I mean, if I delete a patch, it's gone for good or can I simply create the same with the available settings?

Setting 18 was interesting. Similar to guitar into a granular synth/sampler/processor; were you can have more "grains" ; that can be processed to more ambient pads than the Boss can achieve. A lot more work, but far more interesting results. You will have to buy an entire Eurorack of modules to do this; which will cost 3-4x what this pedal costs.

Excellent video again from this fine channel. I have one of these small beasts & while it's not a replacement for standard expression pedals, it does serve to augment one's home studio setup. If one is looking for a dedicated keyboard pedal, then the Electroharmonics Key9 expression pedal makes a string case with its 'clean' sounds. I have this as well. One further point, both these pedals work well with both electric as well as electro-acoustic guitars.

I absolutely love my SY-1 but it really did need the presets. There is so much potential in these it's unbelievable! What I found is that if you really spend a little time with one of these you can come up with some of the best and most original guitar tones you've ever heard. I ran mine with gain and fuzz in various combinations and created the most insane lead sounds that would start out with "Hendrixy" guitar tone and then swell into a screaming feedback sound with bends on higher notes; but it was all controllable! It was amazing, but it took me a long time to get the sweet spot back every time I did something else with the pedal. (Your Time is Gonna Come with an organ in the background works really well also) YEAH PRESETS!!!

Would you mind listing the settings you used for those lead tones you described please, love to try it out on my SY1
@halofour013 жыл бұрын
@@aidenbarrett It's been fairly difficult to replicate, which is why I'm excited about presets. It was roughly: Type: Lead Variation: 6 Depth: 0-1 Tone: about 2 o'clock Direct: about 2 o'clock Effect: 10 - 11 o'clock I think I was running a Big Muff in front of the SY, a reverb and some phaser after it and then out into a fairly crunchy amp. It had a smoother and creamier than usual fuzzed out tone with a little swirl to it. The higher the note I played the more pronounced the effect was. I set it for the bulk of the synth tone to swell in slowly so it would really hit like screaming feedback on a long bend. It's been tough to get it back 100% but you can probably get in the ballpark with those settings. Good luck!
