i don't get why people make fun of the ibanez names. They're the most sensible out there, every letter is there for a reason. case in point: RGAIX6FM: RG shape, A = Archtop, I = Iron label, X = fiXed bridge, 6 strings, FM = flame maple, and tgf is the color (transparent gray flat). And this is so sensible that I never had to search for this info, I just spent some time looking at the guitars and noticed the patterns in the names. Just a few letters tell me so much about the guitar, instead of having to search the web for differences between countless models that are often hard to find.

unfortunately, not every model follow these rules, so I get why sometimes it may seem inconsistent and frustrating. Many RG guitars only have a model number like 8820, 3370 and so on. But still most of them keep some letters that have a meaning, like Z (edge bridge with Zero point system) or R (reverse headstock). But sometimes FX means fixed bridge instead of just the X, so yeah... it's a bit inconsistent. The letters are most useful when there are two models that are very similar to each other, so the differences in the name usually tells you where they differ.

I own the same Ibanez RGAIX and I can say its one of the the best metal axe for the price. Tuning stability (optimal for low tuning), super low action, snappy attack from ebony fretboard and bolt on neck. Pickups are high output but really defined and with lot of clarity. Versatility with split coil. Downside: not for blues-pop players, pickups are failry compressed and not suitable for cleans turning down volume pot. Great axe for the price, and killer with aftermarket pickups like Bareknuckle or medium gain Dimarzio!

I've owned two Schecters - still have one, and it's still my best axe. I now have two Ibanez axes - an RG and an EX - nearly the same in many ways and both modified. (The Schecter is still stock.) I've had two Charvels, but they were from the old Jackson/Charvel company, before Fender bought it. That means I've never had any of the current crop of Jacksons or Charvels. I haven't had hands on any of the guitars you featured here, but I would choose the Schecter over the other two. Of course, I myself would get one of the Floyd-equipped Reaper-6 models; I've gotten re-addicted to Floyds (Damn!😎). I liked all of the guitars, but I found myself hoping that the Schecter would win you over -- maybe because of the one I own.😎 In any case, I think that it would be hard to go wrong with any of the guitars you featured ... but that said, someone would have to kill me to get that neon orange thing on me! (I didn't like that sort of thing in the Eighties, either!😎) Good show, gentlemen! Next time, though, you might consider choosing one type of bridge for all the guitars ... you know, hardtail or vibrato. Lee, your point about the Jackson's lack of sustain was well taken, but what would the same guitar have done had it had a hard tail? You might try removing that variable in the future. Just a thought. Cheers!

Only recently I went out a tried a few guitars in that price range, strangely I tried all three of the guitars demonstrated in this video.. only to walk out with the Schecter Reaper 6.. this guitar is just full of tone from the shredding high gain, to the tailed off volume blues tones.. The fret edges are smooth and you hardly feel the notches.. but the fretboard is nice and thin (not too thin) and you feel as if your fingers are in the fret rather than floating around the fret (that bit doesn't make sense unless you're in my head 😁) Reaper 6 is amazing. I would suggest this guitar to anyone looking to pick up a versatile axe.. * I purchased the Floyd version

The three most under rated guitar brands out there in my opinion. People get so hung up on Gibson and Fender. These sleeper brands as i like to refer to them are made SO well. They are absolutely amazing guitars. I’m a Jackson fanboy personally but i have Ibanez and Schecter models in my wishlist. I don’t care where a guitar is made. I have a Jackson Dinky and a Soloist SLX and I love both, they play and sound great. My Jackson Dinky was made in china and I believe the Jackson soloist SLX was Indonesian made? Either way. I don’t care where its made. A good playing, feeling, and sounding guitar is just that. Regardless of where its made. If people would play a bunch blindfolded and I’m sure people would be pleasantly surprised at how good guitars felt that they never looked at or considered simply because of where it was made. People are just too hung up on country of origin. All that nit picking just to plug into a made in China amp… makes no sense to me. Just play what you can afford and what feels good and enjoy the guitar.

Schecters. They just do their job. They are solid and there’s nothing I could hate about them. I had a lot of guitars and some are terrible at keeping the tuning (don’t wanna call names but yall know...). Others just have pretty bad hardware that gets rusty. Some come with shitty sharp frets. Etc. Schecters are just solid and theres nothing about them that I would hate. Even the cheap ones are solid - like, the pickups in them aren’t as cool as in the expensive ones but they are still good and playable and won’t be noisy or weak af. Schecters are just a good choice

By the way I was interested in that Schecter at one point. I ended up saving money until I got an SLS Elite instead but I called Schecter themselves to ask about those Decimater pickups in the reaper guitars. They are a Korean built version of their own US custom shop Brimstone pickups. Less expensive materials than the actual custom shop ones but wound to the same stats and magnets.
@loneponderer4954 жыл бұрын
@ibraheem elanwar I bought mine from Sweetwater.com best site in the US to get guitars from. They are sold on most sites though so as long as you find a site that sells Schecter guitars that ships to your area you should be able to find one. If you're in a place Sweetwater can ship to I would go with them. You can actual see high def images of the actual individual guitars they have in each model and not only get the guitar model you want, but also the exact guitar itself. It's about as close to shopping in a regular store as you can get from an Online store.
@loneponderer4954 жыл бұрын
@ibraheem elanwar I really like the guitar best guitar I've ever bought or played. That being said I'm also in a Schecter Facebook group and the opinions there on the Pickups are all over the place from Great to people wanting to replace them. The guitar itself is probable one of the most sought after in the group outside of the pickups though. I will say a lot of people who don't like the Fishmans probable didn't give them a far shack though as they are different than any other type of pickup. They have a very wide tonal range witch basically means how they sound is much more about how you EQ your amp. So in other words if it isn't sounding good tweak the EQ settings on your amp to get it to sound how you want. Basically most other pickups have a sort of natural EQ of there own that your amp's EQ will have to fit with. Fishmans are more pliable and can be made to sound like a wide variety of pickups depending on how you set the amps EQ. Basically I'm saying they are great pickups if you give them some time and try to work with them.

@@loneponderer495 That's actually really interesting to know! I have a Reaper-6, it's my first decent guitar as I only got serious about learning to play in the last year or two. Drums have been my main instrument for 15 years and only had a cheap Strat copy sitting around for some basic powerchord stuff until I got the Schecter Reaper. Didn't know much about which brand of guitar to go far, I knew that Ibanez was a safe, ubitiqous choice and that I would most likely also enjoy an LTD as ESP seem to be a decent company. In fact they have been my favourite guitar brand throughout the whole time I've not known much about guitars, purely because their guitars look cool and a lot of my favourite bands/player use them. But never had any personal experience playing an ESP/LTD unfortunately. I ended up getting the Schecter Reaper-6 because the retailer I used (Bax-shop) does a hire purchase thing where you can just put down a 30% deposit, pay monthly for a minimum of 4 months and choose to send the guitar back or pay the remainder and keep it at any time after. So that turned having only £200 to spare into £600 budget for a guitar. However Bax only do that hire purchase on models in-stock in their warehouse, and many brands were only available to be ordered on request. Schecter was one of the brands they actually had a number of in-stock models in. I did a quick bit of research and saw that even though using their own branded pickups can be an indictator of a very budget guitar, Schecter was different as they actually sell their pickups standalone and built up a good reputation early on as a parts shop. I would've gone with the Floyd Rose version if it was in stock but only the hardtail was. I do really like the feel of the guitar though, especially the slim neck. Feels easier to play than anything else I've tried - which isn't a a long list to be fair. Apart from the neck my other favourite aspect is the pickups. Seem to be very versatile with the coil split - being able to coil split the neck pickup is cool and gives me a completely different tone to the bridge in humbucker mode. So it's cool to hear they are based, as you say, on some of Schecter's custom shop pickups. Interesting you mention about the Fishman pickups too. Never played them but from listening to demos online/on KZbin I really like the sound of them. They seem to have a particularly clear, hi-fi sound to them. The ones I seem to like the most are the Javier Reyes signature - really cool that they each have 2 different voices and a coil split (with option to choose which coil is used). I'm definitely keeping the Reaper-6 as I've already paid off 85% of it with the hire purchase payments so it would be silly to return it and only get back the 30% deposit. But I already know what guitar I'd like to get nexy - a 7 string with a Floyd Rose. As much as I'd love to have an LTD, it's another Schecter that I'm most drawn to - the Hellraiser. Looks bad-ass, has the same slim neck as the Reaper, and already has active pickups with 2 push-pull knobs so if I wasn't so keen on the stock EMGs it would be easy to swap them out for some Fishmans. And it's a very reasonable price for the spec too!

@@dreammachine86 Glad to hear you're enjoying your guitar. I was an anti-brand sort of guy until I kept finding Schecter's when shopping based on specs instead of brand. I got 5 different ones now. When I got my LTD EC-401 I got a nice surprise... Guitar Center's spec said: Made in Indonesia, ESP's website said: Made in Indonesia, I got it home and out of the wrappings and as I was caressing it I turned it over and noticed: "Crafted in Korea" on the headstock. I don't have issues with Indonesian guitars, but that seemed like a bonus to me.

I personally think "Made in America" has become synonymous with elitism. Many times lately, American made quality has gone WAY downhill while prices keep going up whether the guitar is junk or not. Even as an American myself, that kind of elitism is a huge turnoff for me and I have actually started to avoid "american made" guitars for that reason. I am more picky about tone and quality rather than where a guitar is made. My favorite guitar in my collection right now is actually a Russian made guitar from a company called Kononykheen. I have a Breed 15, Tele type HH model, that keeps growing on me. The nut with is a hair wider than many shred style guitars at 42.8mm and the fretboard radius is 16 inches. It is ash with a bolt-on maple neck and a blackwood fretboard. It feels amazing. People really have to get out there and look into companies outside the norm. Russian guitars and pickups (FOKIN pickups are extraordinary) are phenomenal. Try something new and different.

Of all of the guitars I've owned my favorites have come from Indonesia and South Korea. My Ibanez AS-93 VLS, one of my top two, was made in Indonesia. May favorite, the Michael Kelly CC60 Burl Burst, was made in South Korea. Both easily top every single other guitar I've ever owned when it comes to quality of construction, playability, and tone. This, even though I've owned Made-in-USA Gibsons Les Pauls and Fender Strats, made-in-Mexico Fender Strats and Teles, a made-in-Japan Ibanez, and other assorted "higher-end" (meaning "more expensive") instruments. I would normally say that you get what you pay for, but that's not really been my experience once you get into the $600+ price ranges. Mostly, it seems like you get whatever the company demands from the factory. For example, WMI makes a bunch of different instruments for a bunch of different manufacturers at many price points, but not all guitars at the same consumer price point out of their factories have the same quality. The same goes with most of the other manufacturers. When my Indonesian Ibanez semi-hollow can out-class a made-in-USA Gibson 355, which it has, there's no question: Country of origin is not nearly as big a deal as people seem to believe. My last Gibson (last ever?), a 2013 Les Paul, was one of the worst instruments I've ever owned, easily beaten by my 2017 Epiphone Les Paul Trad Pro-II. My last Fender (a 2003 American Standard Strat) wasn't any higher-quality than my made-in-Mexico Fender Strat Jimmy Vaughan Signature, despite a 50% price increase. Resale is higher, and snobs tend to stay quiet, but unless it's a boutique hand-made custom-designed guitar, it simply doesn't seem to matter all that much.

As much as i like Jackson and Ibanez, it's unacceptable that when you're buying even a £800 guitar from them, you get a plastic nut. My 2nd guitar was a schecter c6-plus, which is £400 and comes with a graphite nut. How much does a plastic nut even save? A graphite nut costs £4 on amazon, so even if they added £4 to the retail price it would make their budget guitars a hundred times better. From my personal experience (using the new ibanez S61AL-BML) a good nut is better than locking tuners. My c6-plus with stock nut and tuners stays in tune better than a £800 guitar with a plastic nut and Gotoh locking tuners. And no i'm not being a fanboy, i own a Jackson Monarkh SC Pro and 3 Ibanez's and only own 2 schecter guitars. I don't see the point in brand loyalty.

Agree. I get bone cut to my specs immediately after purchase. Some pencil shavings in the slots and it'll rival my Floyds for stability. @@bobchambers8327 It's not a difference in sound, it's a difference in tuning stability.
