@alan wake The only argument against it that I've heard is that it's harder to work with in general. I disagree. A 26.5 scale ( shecter omen 7 ) is a much better choice for low string note stability. More tension across a longer tensioner will always sound better. @@CL8ON6 Yeah I have a huge issue with knobs that close as well. I spent most of my time since I started, playing a Dean ML where the knobs and switches are WAY out of the way like a les paul etc. I tried to play a Schecter (don't remember the model), where the knob is right up next to the pickup like that and I was nudging it and changing the volume with my picking ALL THE TIME! That's when I started to notice how common that placement is. Look at most strats. They have it so damn close like that, so I guess a lot of people just get used to that from the beginning so it doesn't bother them. The funny thing to me is that it's unnecessary and when I look at Schecter's artist models, I noticed that pretty much every single artist has their controls moved out of the way. So I don't know why that's so common like that. The only explanation I've heard is for people that want to do volume swells. I don't hear most people doing volume swells though lol. Good comparison video. I would add construction details about the body wood (mahogany vs ash), and the fingerboard wood (rosewood vs ebony). Also a big construction detail, the truss rod access, on the Schecter; the "wheel" style adjustment is an excellent feature, and it avoids removing wood at the neck/headstock joint.

Ibanez used to make very reasonable priced,high-end guitars Made in Japan. Sadly it has become so expensive to make guitars in Japan nowadays,MIJ guitars are as expensive as Made in USA models in some cases.Their import series like the ''Premiums'' (Made in Indonesia) are hit or miss,I've seen some which were great and some with horrible fretwork or finishing flaws.Their necks are also an aquired taste,they're build for superfast playing and have very flat fretboards,that's why they're so popular among shred-players,but for rythm stuff and chords they're not so good. Schecter's import series,specially the more high-end models made in S.Korea are absolute value for money,same with the Made in Indonesia series. They have either brandname pickups like these Fishman Fluence here or EMG's or Schecter's own,Made in USA passive pickups.(Keep in mind,Schecter was originally a pickup company,so their stock pickups are top.) Their fretwork, necks and neckjoints are great,many models have compound radius fretboards (wider up the neck,flatter the more you go down) and ss-frets,which makes their playabillity superb. What makes them also very attractive,they offer fixed bridge and Floyd Rose for most models and also every model is available as a lefthanded version. Another great alternative,for rock/metal,are the Charvel Pro Mod Series.

Would be more similar doing the Schecter vs an RG Prestige Series. I have 3 Ibanez Prestige RG's I got all of them used. The only one I paid more than $900 for one and that was a limited run RG652 with a birdseye maple fretboard in Deep Purple Doom burst. My RG655 I paid $600 for in Galaxy Black and plays amazingly and just had one ding in the finish on it but it didn't go through the paint. I also have had some Schecters too and they are very good guitars. I still have my Schecter Custom Solo II that is good as any Les Paul at a price most of us players can afford! I am just an Ibanez guy over the years. Its all personal preference, both are great instruments.

you gave the fret win to ibanez over the schecter with stainless steel? come on Darrell!!... oversight. Thats a huge benefit at a discounted price.

I am more of a fan of schecter myself, besides for the price it's amazing and then i like the sound of the bridge better aswell, although i really like that dimarzio in the neck.

Put those DiMarzio pickups in the Schecter and I'm all over that bad boy. Excellent video!

I'm not a Ibanez guy but I love Schecter. I own 3 of them so far. I have the Schecter PT special (Thanks to you Darell and your video), the Schecter PT Fastback IIB Emerald Green and the Schecter C-1 Exotic Tremolo! All 3 are vastly different from each other and all 3 serve me well!

I prefer the Ibanez for the passive pickups. Although, I started playing two years before the Jem was released so hearing that combination referred to as traditional, makes me feel really old lol. Btw, thank you for mentioning the weight of the guitars. I'm in a wheelchair so weight is very important to me and it's a spec that doesn't get mentioned very often.
@johnmaye7489 ай бұрын
Yeah same here I feel old having it called a traditional sound I personally like the thinner sound of the Ibanez, to me that means clarity and the chunkiness of the schecter to me sounds like impeeding how long it could hold a note and there's not a lot of room to improve tone if you like fast metal like me. Some people like that me personally no thanks Ibanez all the way

The Schecter, because I just retired and value is important to me. Also I have a Schecter and it has served me well!

Just when I thought I wanted a Ibanez AZ (Premium) you bring up this Schecter to warm up my metal roots. Looks like an amazing guitar, really want to try it.
@sohamsengupta64705 жыл бұрын
The AZ range looks like a great fusion between old school and new school... But I'm not a very big fan of the headstock and the slightly less agressive body style, the RG has always been my favourite because of just how thin and aggressive the horns are
@MK4vDubbin4 жыл бұрын
I think the AZ’s are an extremely underwhelming reminder that you should get a guitar with a purpose in mind. They’re well made guitars, but they try to do too many things and end up being mediocre at all of them. They sound good, but not great at any specific thing.
@sohamsengupta64704 жыл бұрын
@@MK4vDubbin It's kinda like "Oh hey we want to make a strat but make it Ibanez" And so it becomes either an underwhelming SA series or an underwhelming RG series. Pretty sure it sounds good, I just am not a big fan of the aesthetics

I may be the only one here liking the Ibanez, but nothing is sexier than an Ibanez S!
@kai223noa64 жыл бұрын
I've bought both brands and at least for the guitars I bought the Ibanez has far better quality. The Schechter is more visually appealing but I had to have the frets dressed, reseated.

The binding on the Ibanez WAS white...the clear is tinted
@philippinefandango28595 жыл бұрын
In the tone matchup, I preferred the tone of the Schecter. Sounds fuller like a LP, the Ibanez more like the Strat, a little on the twangy side.. Each have their place.. Although I don't like the battery aspect of the Fischmans. I am with you on your verdict.. Half the price for comparable fiddles is a winner every time... Thanks for the comparison...

i bought the sls elite last year. Im not sure of the ibanez specs from a deeper standpoint, but what sold me on the SLS aside from the incredible playability, was the structural details- the carbon fibre rods, spoke wheel truss adjustment, the fretwork. Agreed the bang for buck (and its not a cheap guitar either) is top notch. i play it everyday.
@JR-mk6ow5 жыл бұрын
Did you add more compression to the Schecter due to its active pickups? They sounded way to clean for me, specially in neck and bridge position. I need to get a guitar with active pickup now. I playing with clean tones Edit: I found it at 800€ in a Belgium distributor. I might convince my local shop to get one for me.
@lrvogt12575 жыл бұрын
Active pickups always sound a little deader to me. Pedals tend to make any guitar sound like the pedal.
@levgtz81584 жыл бұрын
Just like strings make any guitar sound like the strings? sad.

@@levgtz8158 : Peddles completely reshape the sound. Strings aren't so extreme. So no.

I prefer everything about the Ibanez except the higher price. Thae issue with the different colored bindings is most likely a matter of mass-producing the necks for multiple lines, and is hardly a reason to not buy one.
