I’ve got the Stagg set of low volumes. Great price, very similar sound to the Sabians. Dampen the highs with some gaffa. Great for rehearsals and small pub gigs. Used with blues band, rock band and big band. Band mates ‘love’ them. 😀

All well and good but they screwed up and did not provide a way to output all the individual channels to multi-track record. A real bummer for me.

Kind of embarrassing, Neil was with RUSH since July 1974, that's 46 years. How can an accomplished drummer not know that?

I always thought gong drums were overkill. I still do, but after seeing Todd play, I just HAD to have one. I spent WAY too much money finding a bass drum shell that matched my kit, a head, a hoop, and lugs/tension rods for it to get it functional, but it's so worth it. Finally get to do a gig with it here in about two weeks, I can't wait. I've basically modeled my whole setup after Todd's, it's simply perfect. I don't know if I'd REALLY want three floor toms, but I certainly won't count it out either!

I'm with the majority in this case, I don't really like the new logo. It's not bad by any means, but the original logo is the most iconic.

IMO the one thing you can't cheap out on is the ride cymbal. To me it's the most recognizable and best sounding ride cymbal ever made. But I also know a new one is as expensive as a cheap drum kit the old signature version that I have has always been super hard to find because Paiste stopping making it in 22" in the 90s for some reason

At 10:27 I can distinctly hear you clanking on the high hat, it sounds like you're hitting a cardboard trash can lid. Then the clanking disappears, then comes back and the high hat is muted in between....Sounds like you edit out the clanking of the high hat cymbal when your stick hits it. UPDATE: Yep, I just listened to it again and you are definitely editing out the sound of your wooden stick hitting the plastic high hat cymbal. Why would you do that? The clanking sound is pretty loud isn't it?

I think the 18 A crash would've sounded good with the K set in place of the K 16. I don't know why, but I really just don't enjoy the tone of a 16 inch crash cymbal.

I got my first kit in 2004, it was a Mapex V series with Sabian Solar cymbals (16" crash, 20" ride and 14" Hats). The cymbals were alright, they were brass but they were usable to a beginner. I would say Meinl HCS level maybe. The drums I still own and I build a Pearl Midtwon clone from it. They still deliver a nice tone with good heads and they are my gig kit for small venues. Beginner kits are often very capable, the drummer is the most influential part on the sound after all. Its the archer, not the arrow!
