Great place to start as a guitarist, thank you Jack. I've always had a thing about sitting down to learn the keyboard (dunno why, I actually love piano based music!) but this has been easy enough. I'll have to make do on my 4 octave synth with a piano preset, but it's still fun!

You are a legend Jack. Very well explained and I do wish a lot of piano teachers would climb into the 21st century and understand that a LOT of people are not interested in correct posture or hand position and just want to have some fun playing! I mainly play guitar but also keyboard although it is not my main instrument so I generally just make stuff up but it works for me but it has to be fun. If it's a chore then I don't go there.

Doing great Jack'n'team. Add a go-pro on your pedal feet? And perhaps a guitar looper (you don't need to explain a looper to guitar people)? Also, do a "What would Jacob Collier or Cory Henry do" (could be cord progressions - what keyboard to get what sound from - Cory Henry/Collier on a budget)?

This is something I want to dabble in, mainly because as a guitar player I want to add some keyboard/piano phrases to multitrack recordings. Can you (or anyone else reading this) recommend an entry level keyboard for doing this? I want it to sound decent without spending big bucks, if possible. Thanks for any responses.

Once you understand piano, understanding guitar is easy. Piano to guitar doesn't really need a special course.
@jpdj2715
@jpdj2715 4 жыл бұрын
@@domitian671- the piano has a linear keyboard with an easy octave pattern. The piano's complexity is in striking up to 10 notes at a time (occasionally even more). That is totally different. It seems to me two disparate worlds of those learning a couple chords to accompany singing versus classical players.
@domitian671
@domitian671 4 жыл бұрын
@@jpdj2715 Yes, the layout of a keyboard is certainly very different, but having a background in piano gives you enough of an understanding of theory that you can pick up on guitar faster than you would if guitar were your first instrument. Guitarists benefit from learning keys because it unlocks theoretical knowledge; the keyboard will teach you a lot about the fretboard, but the fretboard won't teach you much about the keyboard, so a special course for pianists learning guitar wouldn't being a huge benefit over an ordinary guitar course.
@andrewsutton7007

@@domitian671 ...your fingers significantly hurt more with guitar though and if you don't play piano for a month, there is no pain barrier when you recommence... ;)

I've tried to tune my keyboard but I can't find the tuning pegs & then I'm pretty sure the pedal that came with the keyboard is broken because every time I step on it I don't hear any over drive at all ... Maybe I'll try my trusty tube screamer

Can i ask a question, Why choose Sus2 instead of Maj? I dont know how to play guitar so i guess it has something to do with that. It just seems weird to me to use a relatively less used chord to enter keyboard.
@stevenposey
@stevenposey 5 жыл бұрын
It's a music theory issue. The idea is to find a chord structure that works with all the moving bass notes. Sus2 with no 3rd just has less conflicts with the bass line (G# and A being one of them).

mmm I have been playing guitar since 1980, I have never owned a tuner of any sort. If my strings are messed up, I find a reference note from any song I may know, and tune all the strings around that one tone by ear.
