Gilroy is giving us an amazing treat...he is creating an entire world we knew existed but never saw. He is giving us complex and realistic characters all weaved together in an engaging story and with brilliant actors as players we care about. We are seeing the structure being built that holds up the entire Star Wars universe. Brilliant!

I love how every episode has a typical final scene, and after that a short calm scene. Andor getting arrested THEN the guy working, the girl getting captured THEN the prison woriking etc...

While it didn't give me anxiety, I do share your feelings on how "real" and grim the prison scenes were. They felt very oppressive and dehumanizing.

Nice to see how and where Andor and Melshi met in the prison. It's cool that they have that kind of history together before we see them in Rogue One.

20:18 The whole prison arc is a great call back to Lucas' THX 1138. If you haven't seen it you should give it a shot :) People tend to forget Star Wars is very dystopian and I love how Andor brings all that back in to focus. They've gotten in to this false narrative of Star Wars being some kind of high sci fi fantasy with OP light swords and meta magic which isn't Star Wars. All of that is old Kenobi with rose colored glasses. The Republic was super corrupt. The reality is Star Wars is about the common people. Luke was a kid raised on a farm thrust in to galactic politics and strruggles. Han was a smuggler making a living in a suped up rust pile of a ship. Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru were common people snuffed out by a tyrranical system. And even the Jedi weren't perfect. Star Wars needed to be grounded again.

THX-1138 annoyed me greatly because I've driven through the tunnel where the long chase scene was shot over a thousand times, and it's only about a mile long. I couldn't suspend disbelief to take it seriously.

The ensemble nature of this show and with it the feeling of different genres is proving to be insanely good. I am loving this whole thing and I am so loving, Jess, that you’re loving it as well.

The look of the prison is reminiscent of THX-1138, George Lucas' first film, based on the student film he made.

What's terrible about Cassian being in the prison is that in trying to find him and not succeeding, The Empire I bet is going to question and torture everyone who knew him and he has no idea.

Can't say enough about this show. Another amazing episode. I actually had a moment shortly after watching it when I thought I would have a breakdown. This stuff isn't all fantasy. The world is in a dangerous place right now. A lot of people don't notice, a lot of people don't know what to do, and a lot of people want to make it worse. It's hard to imagine things getting as bad as they are on this show, but isn't that what being choked so slowly that you don't notice means? At least we know how it turns out. Watching how all of these people come together to organize a strong enough resistance will be fascinating.

The sadistic glee on the face of the prison guard when the prisoners were being electrocuted was chilling.

I'm hoping somehow that the rebels that will come through the tunnel Maarva is hoping to open will include Cassian. And I hope Maarva will get to see that, but I'm afraid Cassian might be a little too late... Would add meaning, too, to what Cassian said in Rogue One about 'everything we've done would have been for nothing'. He may not just have been talking about what he and what the other rebels present there have done. He could also have been thinking about all those who have died before.

Hey. Just to let you know, the last two episodes of "Tales of the Jedi" does go into some Clone Wars stuff you haven't yet seen. So I would advise not watching it until after you've seen the end of Season 7.

The implications of a prison system like this existing in a fascist regime as large as the Empire has intellectually shook me. There is so much existential dread in this episode, that I don't think Star Wars has EVER disturbed me like this, and I love it for that.

The storytelling to the fan base uses the same psychology that Luthan uses to incite a rebellion. Some have to die for people to want to rebel, and we as fans want to see them rise up. I hope I get the meaning across, I just don't have the words for it.

Is efficiency their #1 goal? Or is that just something they say so that they can control and manipulate the people, while getting things done? Hit two birds with one stone, I guess. Plus, I'm sure it feels good to have the power.

@@opsatr That's my point. It's not about efficiency and manufacturing. I'm not sure I would rely on the product... lol... I also think conditions look pretty good considering what the motivations are, but it does make a great system for rebel recruitment :)

I really love this series but damn, we really need to be seeing more aliens. Hell, I'll take a character that's just blue, doesn't have to go all out. Really sucks because there is really a chance to show some of the alien species that are being oppressed by the Empire but all we've gotten is a ton of humans. Anyways, loving the show its an easy underrated 9/10 so far for me.
