Assuming that this was Kino's death, it's one of the most real and human death scenes I've seen in a long time - that hint of laughter in his voice is something most actors wouldn't think to bring to that moment but it all just worked brilliantly.

I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one conclusion; I'm damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my...my eagerness to fight, they've set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down, there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my...what is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy, to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. I mean, of course he didn't make it out. He is another Nemix, another K2, his job is to say "climb" to others who then will get to enjoy a "sunrise I know I'll never see". Its a whole Moses leading the Israelites to the Promised Land but not being allowed to live to see it. And which ultimately is supposed to reflect Andor's own fate, whose final act for the rebellion is to make a climb we just watched a younger and uninjured and extremely athletic Jyn Erso make with the greatest of difficulty, which he must now make seriously injured and barely conscious, to save Jyn so she can finish transmitting the Death Star intel. The Death Star Kino and Andor helped build. The whole story in Andor is constantly hitting on the same notes we saw in Rogue One about how many and how much needs to be sacrificed to arrive at the point where a single set of torpedos from one Rebel ship can push half the galaxy into Rebellion, which leads to a point where, ironically, just as Luthen saves what's left of his decency by trusting Andor and not shooting him and Andor saves what is left of his by not shooting Galen Erso, Luke effectively ends the Empire by pressing one single button - the deactivation switch of his lightsaber.

Which, as far as Lucas making allusions to his big intellectual hero Joseph Campbell, is pretty unsubtle. "The tyrant is proud, and therein resides his doom. He is proud because he thinks of his strength as his own; thus he is in the clown role, as a mistaker of shadow for substance; it is his destiny to be tricked. The mythological hero, reappearing from the darkness that is the source of the shapes of day, brings a knowledge of the secret of the tyrant’s doom. With a gesture as simple as the pressing of a button, he annihilates the impressive configuration.”

KK fought against Favreau and the Mandalorian, tried to get him fired and gave him a restrictive budget and she has spit in the faces of SW fans for so long that the fans are not tuning in. Imagine if she had given Jon the same kind of budget and got out of his way like she did for Tony, what would have season 1 of Mando been like. This show was given a budget more expensive than Mando, BoBF, and OWK combined and it's ironic that a short series of animation like The Tales of the Jedi produced a better showing than Andor. Just think about it, this is an excellent spy/drama thriller moved by dialogue, a bit too slow but still compelling and a show runner who doesn't like SW and what if a show runner like Jon was given the same kind of support and money? Since KK has spent so much time shitting on SW fans they're not tuning in to watch this show!

@@Biomirth Thank you Thank you. Many people don't or either forget KK tried to get Favreau fired. Then when that didn't happen she made sure he was given a smaller budget, fought him on using cameos in Mando, look at s1 vs s2, and a restrictive time frame for him, so he used the Volume more than sets. Unlike Mando, Andor is extremely expensive, Tony has complete autonomy and KK has completely backed him. However, Mando is a much, much and much better show than Andor. Andor is an excellent dialogue and acting driven spy, drama and suspense type of show, however, KK has spit on the faces and shitted on SW fans for so long that they're not tuning in and as a consequence Disney is going to lose money out their asses, GOOD.

I also got really emotional during Serkis's speech and I wasn't exactly sure why at the moment but I think it's because what this show does better than almost any other show, hell, any other media I've seen is that it really makes you feel that cathartic release of the oppressed rising up against their oppressors. Almost every story is ultimately an "underdog story" but this isn't just some plucky hero fighting scary bad guys from space or the nerdy protagonist standing up to the jocks. What Andor did brilliantly by taking its time and building the world and story over these mini-arcs is truly showing just how oppressive the totalitarian Empire really is. It's not just this vague concept like it usually was of "Empire bad." They're showing concrete examples of how brutal they are with the torture scenes, the prison conditions, even the scene of the Shoretrooper arresting Andor was lowkey giving me crazy anxiety and panic, there was just something so chilling in its banalness of how a person going on a power trip in an authority figure can completely ruin someone's life just because they feel like it. I think that's why we got so emotional during Andy's speech. Because it felt like a wave of emotion, a cathartic release, to hear one of the downtrodden say, "No longer. We will not be pushed down anymore." Andor is an amazing show. An amazing Star Wars show, but even beyond that, just an amazing show period. I really think it stands up there already with some of the greats and hope that more people discover the show as time goes on.

Yes, I can understand people are different and like different things, but when "fans" say they don't like this, it shows how badly they've been programmed by a Star Wars history of thin dialogue, basic characters, clear "heroes" and "bad" guys, extremely linear story-telling... I could go on and on. I'm not saying it's all bad for those reasons- I love the original series for what it was, prequels not so much, the animated shows are fun in a certain way, I love The Mandalorian for a popcorn-action show (the story isn't horrible either), and boba fett and Kenobi imho were extremely disappointing and non-sensical a lot of the time. That being said, this show and Rogue One are BY FAR the best written, acted, and filmed cinema of Disney-era Star Wars. Regarding sacrifice and means justifying ends: It may sound really creepy but I think everyone should think about whether or not they'd sacrifice their loved ones 'for the greater good' (or however one wants to frame that). Not because I think people should or should not, but because the exercise of thinking about it prepares you for difficult decisions and gives you insight into what you really value. Then, when the hammer falls, you'll know just what to do, rather than having indecision ruin either 'good' outcome.

I agree big-time that a major theme of this episode is the nature of difficult decisions to fight or to sacrifice your life or your principles for a cause. My only quibble is that we really have not seen enough of Mon Mothma's daughter or know enough about their relationship or even the quality of Mon Mothma's marriage. But I can still empathize with Mothma's steely attempt to protect her daughter. I also get the feeling that Mothma wants to protect her social position and not be judged for hanging around with criminals, even though there is a slight hint that her husband may have done business with the bad guy. I am enjoying this show so much that I want to see more of the world and societies we are seeing.

Serkis knocked it out of the park, but I couldn't unhear snoke's voice over the prison microphone :/

I think that while this is the least "Star Wars" of titles, it is also the best of "Star Wars" titles.

I say this partly in jest, but in a universe where a 10 year old can blow up a battle cruiser and a 20 year old can destroy a Death Star, having a 50 year old who can't swim is almost unbelievable XD

The filming locations across the UK are stunning and the Pinewood Studios sets are just epic. But this, to me, is like the Deep Space Nine of Star Wars. Unlike a lot of new sci-fi shows (including Star Trek) this shows the dark side (of the empire) but also shows hope. The dialogue is better it feels written by grown-ups and not millennials that throw in modern slang and well-worn tropes just to be cool. It is true to the Star Wars universe but also its own thing.

Deep space nine was crap. Nothing in common with this at all. If anything it would only make sense if sisko were the empire.

I know he ran off with Melshi at the end but they can’t have them both forming too close of a bond. As they’re hardly all over each other in rogue one. They barely interact so I’m interested in how friendly they’re going to get.

They ended up in different branches of the rebellion military. Andor a spy, Melshi a spec force sergeant. Chances being they didn’t have much time to bond. And we didn’t really need to explore any friendships between them
@obiwankenobi6872 жыл бұрын
@@martinjrgensen8234 they didn’t explore any friendship with them because they didn’t know in 7 years time they’d put Melshi in a spin off prequel. So just hope they don’t have them bond that much in Andor

I’ve seen more people loving this show than hate. Most are just fatigued by starwars.

Nah. Andors numbers are way way better than were reported. They made a mistake and admitted to it. But now that that data is fouled up, they don't really know how well it's been doing. Have to wait and see, but they knew its doing a lot better than they thought.

Wild speculation time. At the beggining of this arc Incel Carn told girlboss fachist Merro that he could recognise Axis' (Luthen's) voice if he heard it. When Luthens mole suggested inspecting the ship, Deadra very quickly left the room. I think she could have, and this is just speculation, planted a bug on something he took out of the building with him. Perhaps she got a recording of Luthen's voice when they met face to face. If she shows that recording to everyones least favorite wanna be evil villian, that could lead to Luthens downfall much faster than anticipated.

Well, Carn is gonna throw a huge wrench in that plan by jumping town and heading to Ferrix on his own. He's gonna get himself in huge trouble and fuck up whatever Dedra and the ISB are doing.

What I hear most from people who don't like Andor, is that it's boring and dull. I respect everyone's opinion but if you think THIS was boring or dull you have to get your head examined.

I think the people who say it's boring and dull expected lightsabers and flashy starship battles, just because it has the Star Wars name attached to it, and when they didn't get that, instead of finding out what the show is about, they just tuned out

Let them have their Grogu. We'll have 24eps of the very best of Star Wars.

Surely you'd jump anyway and hope Cassian/Keef or one of the others would help you in the water. It'll be a shame if that's the last of Andy Serkis in the series... unless we see him being re-captured and prepared for Operation Snoke 😉

There is a way for Andy serkis to make it out if he waits another troop transport will eventually show up and he can hijack it.
