That's part of the tragedy of Saw. He was traumatized by the death of his sister. Then shortly after her death he had to watch his former allies, Clones, betray him and everyone he cared about, and had to watch the Republic take his home from him. He had to run from everything, and spent 20 years fighting a guerilla campaign without anyone he could fully trust or care about. By the time of Rogue One he's pretty much insane, and trapped in his own delusions and pain.

One of the most powerful aspects of this scene is how often Luthen says "plus kreyger". For as cold and devious as we see him it shows a level of weight that he mentally carries. He doesn't make these decisions lightly. It's 30 men plus kreyger.

@@YouGotServed835 Definitely a valid reading of the scene. Luthen can be read as kind of sociopathic in these monologues - his empathy seems calculated and I could certainly see it as feigned. But the emotion is real, I think. If he didn't care about the lives of others he wouldn't be in this fight. I think Kreegyr's life truly means something to Luthen, as calloused and intentionally deceptive as he may be here, and that the remorse is genuine.

@@YouGotServed835 i dont think so, if krieger didnt mean something to luthen he wouldn't have said "plus krieger" when saw said that 30 men would die, even though luthen lied about that, it was actually 50. as for why he lied about the true number, luthen and saw are very clearly either friends or on good terms with each other, luthen might've lied to soften the blow for saw, knowing his mental issues at this point in his life. luthen is very cold and calculating yes, but he isn't 100% void of emotions, he actually shows some of it when near the end of the season he convinces lonny to stay in the fight when he was planning to leave.

@scush Жыл бұрын
i wouldn’t say “more” … what diego did was phenomenal, too. his performance is so subtle yet grounded and diego’s own writing of cassian’s backstory and his personal biography as a mexican who supported and protested for the zapatistas as a young man was instrumental in forming the character of andor. diego absolutely put in the work and you can tell. this show probably wouldn’t exist without luna’s creativity and dedication to this role, so they are extremely fortunate to have cast him back then for rogue one. but yeah, you are obviously right about skarsgård, too; he is one of my new favourite actors. i first saw him in chernobyl and was completely entranced by his perfomrance-and that’s another series full of far too many brilliant actors to choose from. in an ideal world, they would have both gotten the award/nomination.
