As far as fluid resuscitation, is LR better than NS? I am an ER nurse and I took care of a patient yesterday and the doctor stated LR is preferred as the patient was severely acidotic. What are your thoughts?

I don't understand why the body breaks down fats for fuel if there are more than normal amounts of glucose. Assuming the individual reads their elevated blood glucose level and gives themselves an elevated amount of insulin, shouldn't that create more than normal amounts of usable energy? Even if they don't administer an adequate amount of insulin to fully correct their blood glucose level, couldn't you assume they have more than their average amount of useable energy? Why the need for ketone metabolism?

The body is not able to use up the glucose in the body due to deficiency in insulin. For example, you have stocks of food in the house inside the cupboard but you have lost the key to the cupboard. So you are forced to buy stocks from outside. That's why lipids are broken down, which creates ketones in the process.
