Very interesting, I'm started to study messer and one handed weapons in hema by seing your YT channel. I'm exited to test this with my friends

That's really cool to hear. Have fun! :D

I'm a beginner hema student, so I found this quite useful. I'm primarily learning longsword but I also enjoy messer.

For me personally the messer gives my wrist a lot more freedom of motion which feels more comfortable and reliable to my hand. The katzbalger feels quicker*? but it's almost more comfortable to hold with my thumb on the flat which probably isn't right I feel like I'm missing something with the katzbalger mechanically that I'm almost certain is an operator error 😅
@VirtualFechtschule2 жыл бұрын
I actually quite like the thumb grip on this katzbalger too, which is only a problem if you're going to be cutting with it. :P It just feels comfortable. For an actually short katz I prefer to just hold it in hammer grip and sacrifice range for structure.

@@VirtualFechtschule I taught a Kali workshop last weekend based on Ilustrismo's 12 Defenses. The first set of footwork against an overhead forehand attack was the exact same you illustrated here. Very cool!

Legend says that if you put two dussacks together you get the legendary weapon 'giant's scissors'
@VirtualFechtschule2 жыл бұрын
Hehehe. I have a hunch Paurenfeyndt might even work with giant scissors. :P

@@VirtualFechtschule Lol, I bet it probably would. When you went over the basic advice I was checking off everything that I said to brand new students last class, and I said everything.
@VirtualFechtschule2 жыл бұрын
@@WinnipegKnightlyArts Excellent. I noticed that It worked really well during the actual workshop as well. It was a good way to make sure people do what's needed to make the stücke work in the first place. :)
@WinnipegKnightlyArts2 жыл бұрын
@@VirtualFechtschule it helps get them in the right mindset too. Make properly timed intentional strikes when you see an opening, don't dive in on all or nothing cuts.

@@WinnipegKnightlyArts Agreed. Setting the right intention for a class is important and this will do it! :)

May I ask where do you get that straight sword from? Is it a custom order from Landskchnet Emporium?

Yes, well spotted!

@@VirtualFechtschule Could you tell me what it's called? I heard it's proto-something from the vid, but can't really figure it out the word haha
@VirtualFechtschule2 жыл бұрын
@@BS-bd5uq proto-katzbalger! It's got the hilt of a Katzbalger, but they generally have slightly different blade types and not yet full S-quillons like true Katzbalger have.
@BS-bd5uq2 жыл бұрын
@@VirtualFechtschule That's very interesting! Is there any read on the history of Katzbalgers? It seems to be quite mysterious
@VirtualFechtschule2 жыл бұрын
@@BS-bd5uq yeah, that's the thing. Established literature doesn't quite know either and has pretty much just ignored what we now call proto-katzbalgers as if they're just anomalies. There's quite some originals and depictions though. Most of what I know is from discussions with people who have seen lots of originals and from skimming through old forum posts such as these: www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=8630

hate go samurai but in first segment you cut at wrist if u scoop the sword if not punch n hammer wrist I was told in my school for like 300 years not to test wrist breaking moves be very careful not to break that top bone of wrist n don't lean forward ur head will get in retracting wrist from a advance attacking parry cut but I dint say shit
