Something that almost all high level american fighters are missing. You see club fighters like Lemos and Pitbull (sorry, they are tough fighters, but are small for weight class and throw all looping shots) give top american boxers lots of problems by simply throwing looping shots and working on the inside with aggresion. All they have is clinching as a tool to combat it.

This is a great fight to coach young boxers - Ward demonstrates the ring martialship to adapt to an opponent and builds everything from his defence and jab dominance. Whilst Froch has the heart and stamina that any champion needs at some point. I’m always sad to hear Froch downplay this fight as ‘boring’ - he diminishes his own accomplishment to have fought so stoically and create such an entertaining spectacle. He just didn’t have the skill pedigree that Ward had - and that’s ok, Ward was a unique talent as a left handed orthodox Olympic Gold medalist… there’s nothing but honour in taking him 12 rounds!

I wouldn't say that, Ward wast levels above Froch he was just a better fighter, the better man on the night. Froch wasn't at the wrong level at world level opponents proved by his career and wins. He wasn't close to being stopped here just soundly beaten. I'd say styles make fights is a more appropriate cliché for this one.

he was CLEARLY at least a level above him. He was walking Froch onto shots like he was a complete novice, swinging all over the place. Was abusing his guard. He was hurt numerous times. Frochs footwork was embarrassing in there at times, crossing his feet, off balance.@@justbreakingballs
@justbreakingballs
@justbreakingballs 9 ай бұрын
@@defidooooo2149 he was soundly beaten but imo it's not correct to say Froch had no business being in the same ring, they were both world level fighters but Ward is better at that level. My idea of levels is when a fighter is levels above is like Pac man vs Hatton, just a different game and laid him out needing oxygen in no time. For Ward to be considered a different level he would hane had to get Froch out of there which he couldn't. No one could because Froch had world class stamina and chin. Ward had world class speed and movement but not power and he couldn't KO Froch.

This was a mismatch; Froch could not deal with Ward's speed and angles. Ward is a natural left-hander, so that lead left jab carries plenty of sting in it. Of this era of super middles, only Calzaghe would have been in with a shout of beating Ward, and even that would have been far from certain. Uneven but good scrap - thanks for uploading.

That’s what happened often with Calzaghe he had the chin and fitness to absorb the pain filled learning processes. Andre looked like a class fighter. Tight defence, sharp jab. Beautiful transitions between punches, great variety. Froch is a bit clumpy and can’t seem to defend himself against any of the incoming punches with either his hands or head movement. His bladed stance is useless at distance, as Ward can cover it quickly. Froch saves himself by committing to keeping his chin down, being resilient and constantly throwing power shots. There’s obviously a skill in being tough too, but it ain’t so pretty to watch. I admire Carl for achievements but not for his technical boxing ability

Let’s have it right; Groves was whupping Froch in both of their fights until a diabolical early stoppage and carelessness respectively gave Froch the win each time. So to suggest after watching those two fights plus this one that Froch would’ve beaten Calzaghe is so ridiculous that the odds would’ve been 1-80,000 on in favour of Calzaghe

The scorecards are proof that you shouldn't trust, leaving it in the judges hands... He practically out-pointed/out-boxed Carl in every round. It's been years since I've seen this fight, but the way I remember it, i gave Carl maybe 3 rounds, 4 if I'm being modest. I don't recall it being a shutout, be i do remember thinking by the 9th or 10th round, the only way he wins the fight is by knockout. And in my opinion it wasn't something Andre did that was exceptionally well, he wasn't super defensive, he dropped his guards a lot, fought on the inside. What gave Carl the biggest problem was Andre's speed, and that jab that seemed to land whenever Andre threw it.

No coincidence that the fighter Froch says he really dislikes the one who beat him convincingly .Probably pissed off that he couldn't blame an ash cloud like he did after the first Kessler fight. Ward proved far stronger than a lot of people thought and he outmuscled Froch inside. Too many people saying Froch underperformed, rather than giving Ward credit

Ward's style is superior to Calzaghe, dirty at times but he seemed to keep things with in the rules in this fight. Froch had a harder time here than Joe ever could've given him.
